kenny is quite short for his age, only shy of 168cm. but kenny carries himself in a way that he doesn't look small at all. (not until you see him next to taller people at least) His back is always straight, shoulders rolled back and his head held high. and when he walks, he walks with confidence.
he loves being under the sun and because of that, his skin is quite sun-kissed. he is well fed and is currently keeping a close eye at mantaining his 58kg. he might not look it at first sight, but underneath his baggy clothes are lean muscle.
his biggest asset is probably his dimpled smile. he isn't the most sunny of people, but he won't be shy either to use his million dollar smile to charm his way through life. the rest of the time, he'd be scowling and squinting though.

kenny is 100% about snapbacks and bandana. sometimes he'd even wear them both. because of this, he is forever cursed with the worst case of hat-hair to ever reach oceanview. kenny is also a proud glasses-wearer. he has one pair of spectacle that he uses to see and about a thousand different types of shades for accessory. in terms of clothings, his go to style has always been printed tees or crew neck, but he can be proper too and wear button up every now and then. he loves wearing shorts. it could be snowing outside and he'd still be wearing shorts. fashion is pain.

The thing about kenny is that, he likes to be in control over how people sees him. over the course of his life, he's been so many different people. when he was 13, he was the shy book worm. when he was tired of that look, he joined the soccer (read: football) team and renewed himself as a jock. at the age of 16, he has gotten sick of constantly being surrounded by faux company. so he decided to be quiet and lowkey. now seventeen, he doesn't know who he is anymore.
What he does know, is that he's an extremely private person. he can be social and talk to anyone for hours but by the end of the conversation, they wouldn't be any closer than they were at the beginning. being someone so closed off, personal and emotional confrontation is the bane of his existence. If he's not dodging them, he's shutting them down.
it's not that he has a lot to hide, he just like keeping things to himself and this goes beyond emotions. he thinks about things a lot. he is curious by nature and is intrigued by everything. anything at all. in fact, most of his talking is done in his head with himself and sometimes, you can even catch him muttering and arguing to himself. because of this, people are often surprised to find him interested in the most random of things because he has never mentioned it in front of other people before.
despite being very personal, kenny has no problem socialising. in fact, he's a good conversationalist since he doesn't care for other people's personal lives either. it keeps conversations casual and light. talking to him is easy and he makes most of his friends that way. he just pops up one day and charm his way through with his talking and listening skill, and his easy jokes and his genuine interest in them. he's good at making other people open up but he prefers to draw a line when it comes to himself.
it's hard to crack his inner walls but once you do, he'll never let you go. may it be lovers, family or just friends, he'll take care of them with everything he has. sometimes, it can border alarmingly close to possessiveness but most of the time, it's loyalty. and you can show up at his doorstep bloodied and tell him that you've killed a man, and he'd help you hide the body without question.
more often then not, he forgets the word 'moderate' and 'compromise' exists. he is competitive beyond reason and if he's not getting what he wants, he's getting nothing at all. and when he doesn't get what he wants, that's when all hell break loose. he'll be bitter for days to come and you'll find yourself with someone with so little resemblance of the kenny he usually is that you'll be convince he's an imposter.
when he's nice, he's amazing. he's friendly and funny. he'll turn the most awkward of situation to a crowd of bubbling laughter. but when he's not, he's cold as ice. he'll isolate himself from the rest of the world and when you break his solitude, he won't think twice before snapping at you. he has a collection of guilty outbursts he keeps at the back of his head, y'know, for those nights where guilt just seems to be waiting for you to crumble. he feels bad about them, of course but his anger is often hard to manage.
things to note
kenny is extremely shortsighted. he wears his spectacles most of the time but whenever he knows he'd be under the sun for a long time or doing anything physical that might harm his glasses, he'd put on contact lenses and trades his regular glasses with shades.
music is a very important part of his life. he's always listening to music. the only thing that will stop kenny from wearing his earpiece in public or blaring music from his room is the end of the world. or if his cat is dying.
speaking about his cat, this is her. he named her luna (because her eyes looked like a couple of crescent moon) but the cat only respond to 'nana' so he called her that instead. her favourite sleeping spot is kenny's chest when he's lying down. kenny was once heard saying this; "if my cat were human, she'd be a hot girl".
kenny's biual. he prefers girl but he's weak for tall boys who are nice to him. this is an exact quote from him; "girls are like beanbags. they're soft and nice and warm. boys are like bar stool. they look cool but you can't lean on them and if you sit there for too long, your will start hurting."
he isn't ashamed of his uality but he isn't open about it either. he's always on the edge when questioned about it by people he isn't close with but he isn't afraid to square up when someone is directly or passive aggressively giving him for it. when he's with another boy, he tends to be very careful because he doesn't want anything to happen to his partner.
he smokes and drink too much coffee. when he was pretending to be a jock, he got peer pressured into smoking and now, he can't stop. he heard somewhere that coffee helps suppress the addiction, but it didn't work for him and now he's addicted to both. he only smokes when he's really stressed now and he's trying to change his coffee for tea (because he was told recently that coffee stunts growth and kenny really don't want to stay short for the rest of his life. he has a few more years until he stop growing) but it's a slow progress.
he has a good stamina (another residue from his jock days). he likes to run and jogs in the morning daily before he starts his day. sometimes, he'd strap nana on his chest and run with her.
kenny is a documentary nerd. he will watch documentary in his free time. natgeo and the discovery channel are his favourite channels. (had a huge crush on bear grylls even after he witness him drinking his own pee) he also signed up for netfilx solely for their true crime series.

history
the okada family runs a successful sushi shop in oceanview. the shop oversees the sea and is right by the beach, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals a like. over the year, the restaurant has been gaining more and more buzz and has even became an official tourist spot in the small town. because of that, the okadas is quite a prominent figure in oceanview.
kenny grew up in the restaurant, watching his father skillful mastery with the knife and eating good food. the ocean was always there with him too. he was always on the beach playing with the neighbouring kids and it was beautiful but... boring. there was nothing special about his childhood. so, when he was old enough to think for himself, he experimented a lot.
first, it was his general persona. in middle school (age 13), he was the nerd. he was the guy people befriend with just to copy his homework. although his father was proud of his academic achievements, he wasn't content with how he was. so, when he entered high school, he joined the football team. fortunately for kenny, those childhood days spent running around on the beach made him a speedy runner and after a few training sessions, he was playing for the school's team. he had so much fun. he loves playing the game and he loves the attention he was getting. although his academics plummeted, he felt like he had no worries in the world.
In the middle of an inter-school football match, his father collapsed, overworked. kenny didn't know about it until the game has finished, when he checked his phone and saw 34 miss calls from the restaurant's manager. he rushed to the hospital, ignoring his friend's invitation for a post-game celebration. while waiting on the sterile white hallway of the hospital, it dawned on him. not one of his 'friends' are there to be with him. he debated on calling a few of them but he soon realised, with bile rising up his throat, that none of them would do more than offer their condolences. he has never felt more lonely. that was the moment he decided that the facade he puts up isn't worth it; that none of this matters, that none of his 'friends' are true.
almost immediately, he changed. not look wise, but mentally. he quit the club because it wasn't as fun as he had found it at the start. he kept a solid distant from the people he was acquainted with through his football, he stopped hanging out with his team mates, he spent more time stressing over his exams and stayed quiet enough to be peacefully ignored by passer bys.
he goes through the remaining of the year being a good student and helping his father at the restaurant. It was nice and blissful but there's a little voice at the back of his head that's always urging him to do more, to be more reckless, to go back to having fun and living like a regular teenager. it was easy to ignore at first but now that his teenage years is coming to an end, it's haunting him again.
he's seventeen now and he's not satisfied. there's something missing. he doesn't want his youth to be wasted but he's afraid that he has already flush it down the drain.
lifestyle
being the only son of a successful business man, he has got a lot of baggage to carry. even though his father never states it explicitly, he's always hinting that he wants kenny to continue managing the restaurant. sometimes, he'd even urge kenny to study Japanese cuisine as if he wants kenny to continue his legacy as a sushi master. although kenny is thankful that he at least has a back up plan and won't be jobless in the future, he's just not interested in it.
his father isn't the type to speak a lot and he never forces kenny into doing anything he doesn't want to do but kenny can't help feeling pressured. the restaurant is very important for him and kenny knows that if one day the restaurant goes under, it'll break his father's heart. and kenny loves his father too much for that.
sometimes, kenny find himself thanking whatever god might be that he doesn't have to go through that phase of hating your parents in your teenage years. but then, he'd realise that it's because he depends on his father because he doesn't have anyone else to depend on. his mother died when he was too young to remember and he doesn't have anyone he trust enough to lean on. he suspects that his father is in a similar situation too. so, they stayed together.
they don't talk much about their feelings. unfortunately, kenny got almost all of his personality traits from his father. but thankfully for them, they understands each other because of this. and they are always surrounded with comfortable silence when they're together.
there was one time it was different, though. kenny was sixteen and realising that he might be different from the other boys. accepting that he like boys too was easy. admitting it was difficult. the locals were very conservative. they'd only accepted his Japanese family as a part of their community when the restaurant started blowing up. how would they react to an openly biual kid? so he didn't say anything about it for awhile.
that is until he fell in love for the first time. the boy's name was dongho. it was horrible. he was feeling so much. he was going insane and it was too hard to contain. he thought he was being careful with this boy but then one day he came to his house only to be greeted by his furious parents and his pretty face beaten up. dongho told him that some of a local gangster jumped him. he told kenny that he was just clumsy, that he was at fault, that he should've avoided the gangster. kenny thought it was bull. and so does dongho's parents, who kenny suspects knew about them but never commented on it.
so kenny tracked the gangster down. it was easy, there was only one kid in the entire town that has enough balls to beat another kid up. kenny found the gangster and fought. he had never fought with his fist before but it doesn't matter because the kid was the same height as him but not as muscular. kenny broke his nose. the gangster broke more than that and they were both brought to the police when an elder woman reported the fight.
his father had been so disappointed, kenny felt his heart aching. for the first time since he stopped being a child, he cried in front of his father. he confessed everything; that he like boys, that he likes a certain boy in particular and that he had fought for him. He expected his father to kick him but instead, he was hugged. he was held to tightly. it felt like nothing else matters in this world.
he refuses to hide after that. if anyone is going to give him hell for it (or anything else that he is), he'll give them hell back.
WHY DO THEY WANT TO GO ?
kenny is intrigued by the house but for a different reason than normal. the locals are always gossiping about the haunted house but to him, the house looks magical. the overgrown leaves, the unkempt garden, the old bricks and most of all, the mysterious man who resides in it just gives off an air of mystic. kenny always thought that the house looks like it was built straight out of a picture book and the man is from some kind of a fairytale. out of curiosity, kenny wants to just explore the house and maybe take home a few pictures as souvenir.
what do they think is happening ?
kenny isn't superstitious so he doesn't believe any of the ghost stories the locals are always talking about. he thinks it's just a bad case of a rich young adult who has no idea how to manage an old house that leads the house to look so unruly that everyone else in the community is terrified of. kenny once joke that if he were to ever meet the owner, he'd give him a house management 101 book as a housewarming present.
kenny's best guess is that the young man is just a socially awkward man who is, for whatever reason, hiding away from the rest of the world. sometimes kenny thinks the man's lucky for his lasting solitude since kenny fancies himself some alone time as well but it's always cut short by the unavoidable responsibility of the outside world. most times, he feels bad for the man. because nobody in this town knows him, yet he is the topic of every gossip and the bud of every childish jokes.
what would their parents say about them investigating the house ?
his father wouldn't say anything about it to kenny unless he got caught breaking and entering, and in trouble with the authority. to be honest, his father is curious himself and if kenny ever come out of the house with pictures, he'd probably share it with his father.

yuusuke is a man of few words, even with his customers. he, just like his son, is very secretive and private. he understands more than he let's others to believe. even when kenny was going through his identity crisis phase, he knew but decided not to speak up about it because he trusts kenny to make up his mind himself. he lets kenny to do whatever he wants but monitor him quite closely so that in case something gets out of hands, he can interfere. yuusuke has gotten a few advances from the local single women through out the years but actually, he's still stuck to his wife. kenny doesn't know this but he visits his wife's grave early in the morning after he's done his grocery shopping.

dongho was his friend since childhood but they didn't get close until after kenny had his identity crisis at 16. dongho, who was shy and timid, came over to the okada's with warm food from his mother after hearing that kenny's father has collapsed. kenny was touched by this and started to reconcile their childhood friendship. they started going to the library to study together and it wasn't too long until dongho came out to kenny. it took them a few more months to fall in love. they were both so happy with each other until the incident happened. after that, dongho's parent forbade them to see each other for a while and even though kenny's feeling didn't waver, dongho tod him that they should stop dating to stop something like this happening again in the future. kenny put up a big fight about it but in the end goes trough with it because he realised that dongho was right. they're not in the right place to be happy yet. but even though they broke up, they were still very close.

inked, blue hair, strange accent.
yijeong is a foreign-born korean who came to oceanview to do a university research on the oceanic creature in the area. he's not very friendly with the local since the locals aren't that friendly too him either. in fact, he's often the topic of gossip among the adults for just simply existing. but he fell in love with the okada sushi restaurant and quickly becomes a regular. kenny is very intrigued by him. no one in oceanview is like him. kenny approached him at the restaurant and they become friend easaily. to say that kenny doesn't have an ulterior motive would be a lie. yijeong is exactly kenny's type. and even though he's trying to be real subtle with his approaches, yijeong notices it. yijeong is truthfully intrigued by him to but refuses to return kenny's shots. yijeong often subtly reminds kenny that not only is he not staying in oceanview for too long, he is also four years older. kenny picks up on this and tries to stop his advances for yijeong's sake. but the truth is that kenny doesn't care. he's not giving up yet but for now, they'll remain friends.

i was honestly spending too much time on his personality and the whole thing about him changing who he is based on his drive at the time and i hope you'd understand what i'm getting at hahaha. if you feel confused, it's understable too. i'll fix it. i actually based kenichi on a few fictional characters who has nothing alike and that's partially the reason why i had such a hard time coming up with his personality and back story. (i'm basing him off kei nagai from ajin and kent parson from check!! please)
