NICKNAMES ▸Kyukyu: A cute nickname that his sister Yoohyeon calls him by. He finds it annoying but only Yoohyeon can get away with calling him that. Anyone else who does this will wish that they'd never met him. Kyuhwan isn't fond of nicknames, he'd just like to be addressed by his name.

▸Mandarin(Conversational): He learnt it throughout school and is very good at speaking it. He understands it's written form well too. However, he hasn't used it in a while so may make mistakes now and then.

APPEARANCE The first thing people notice about Kyuhwan is his cold gaze. His angular eyebrows create a rather intimidating and serious appearance. His hair is(dyed)dark brown and parted to his left(see gif above). Kyuhwan is a little on the taller side and is mildly toned in physique.

STYLE Kyuhwan dresses stylishly but comfortably in public. He tends to favour monochrome colours ranging from light grey to black and shades that conceal his eyes. When at work, he wears the typical office attire including a suit, tie and oxfords. At home, his outfits are much duller consiting of plain t-shirts and sweat pants plus a hoodie or sweater if it's cold.

[Kyuhwan's Younger Sister, Cho Yoohyeon]
▸Cho Kyuhwan. What can I say...First off, 'Mr Perfect' has always seemed, well, perfect. He's the model student, the family favourite and worst of all, my brother. 

 

▸When it comes to Kyuhwan, you either deeply admire him or absolutely despise him. He's the top of his class, a talented pianist, athletic and wins all the awards. It's not hard to see why he'd have so many look up to him. Teachers, students and relatives are always praising him for one thing or another. But at the same time, it's not hard to see why many hate him. Kyuhwan isn't...a people person. He's so distant and cold, there seems to be a wall between him and other people, he's always got this iron mask put up. He's not very friendly to put it bluntly. It's hard to get anything more than monotone answers from him if it's your first time meeting him. 

 

▸One of the things I hate the most about Kyuhwan is his arrogance. My brother isn't one to brag, but it's pretty clear he's a proud person. With all those years of being put on a pedestal, I guess it's not absurd that he's become so stuck up. Still, that doesn't mean he should feel all superior. Even though he acts polite, he's only out for himself. His comfort, his values, his success. Kyuhwan, Kyuhwan, Kyuhwan. That's all he ever thinks about. Other people's problems just don't seem relevant to him. Kyu seems to have trouble sympathising with other people's personal situations and inner conflicts. As brilliant as he is, not everyone thinks the same way as him and I wish he'd realise that.

 

▸Ok, I know I've complained about my brother but hear me out: he isn't a terrible human being. He's a very honest person. Brutally honest perhaps but he'd never lie to you. You can always trust Kyuhwan to give unbiased, sugar-coat-free advice. He's very smart and logical as well, so in some ways he's good at solving your problems. I also admire his ability to stay cool under pressure. He never gets carried away in the heat of a moment. It's like nothing fazes him. If his multitude of medals, trophies and awards weren't a giveaway, Kyuhwan is an over achiever and it's all thanks to hard work. He puts 100% of his effort into every goal he tries to reach 100% of the time. Kyuhwan never slacks off, cuts corners or resorts to cheating to get something done.

 

▸Sometimes Kyuhwan can be a real jerk. However, for the few people he actually cares about, he's one of the most reliable friends you can ever have. He's what's called a "man of his word". He does as he says, he does as others(that he agrees to follow) tell him to do. Even when he has no idea how to make you feel better, Kyuhwan is always there to support you and help you in any way he can, trust me on this one. He's a loyal person who sticks with his friends no matter how much they fight and sticks up for them even when no one else does. Kyuhwan's not good at showing that he cares but if you're observant like me, you'll know if he does.

 

▸It sounds like I hate him but I really don't, it's the opposite actually. I hope one day he'll become more open with those around him because in truth, he's a very lonely person. For as long as I was alive, he was cold and very reserved and after the accident, things have gotten pretty hard for him. All I want for him is that he'll find people he can rely on for life because I've found such a person in him.

BACKGROUND
▸Kyuhwan's earliest memories include that of a lone boy in a vast, elegantly furnished room playing the piano. His mother arrives to hear him re-producing beautiful melodies, idenitical to the original work. She praises him for his playing and he smiles, promising to do his best and make her proud. Within the next few years, little trophies and certificates begin to fill up the cabinet in the family's living room.

 

▸He's nine years old when his sister manages to climb the barrier of a starcase overlooking the ground level of his granmother's house. In absolute horror, he focuses on Yoohyeon and her descent to the floor ceases. His grandmother and parent arrive at the scene, their faces are frozen in a mien of shock just like how his sister was frozen in time, suspended in her fall. But time hasn't stopped and his mother rushes below the stairs to catch the child and Kyuhwan "snaps out of" his focus, letting Yoohyeon gentle fall to her mother's arms. 

 

▸His grandmother informs him of his telekinesis. His late grandfather had the same powers but stopped using them after Kyuhwan's mother was born. It's unknown whether it's hereditory or merely a coincidence, but Kyuhwan has psychic powers, abilities that he is told by his parents to keep a secret. If he never uses them, he's no different from another passerby on the street. This doesn't stop the young boy from experimenting on pencils, soccer balls and cups. But he listens to his parents and never tells a soul.

 

▸He's content with the way his life is going by the time he finishes highschool. With good grades and a place under his father's company, he seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. One night, he goes out with a friend. At 8:40pm, a road accident occurs and Kyuhwan is in hospital without any movement in his lower body paralysed from the waist down.
 

▸It's been a week since he's returned home and he hasn't left the house since. Few people know about the accident, even fewer know about his condition but people begin to wonder where he is. It's late in the afternoon when he's tossing a ball into the air and catching it, trying to come to terms with his situation. He misses a catch and the ball rolls away. As he reaches out for it, the object gravitates into his hands. From then, Kyuhwan began to experiment again. He falls over again and again but picks himself up each time, first physically but gradually, telekinetically. He endures migraines and coughing every week from the excessive and improper use of his powers but he continues to practice. Eventually, he is able to telekinetically move his lower body as if he were walking as an able person. Kyuhwan now has two secrets, his paraplegia and his telekinesis.

RELATIONSHIPS

 

Father | Cho Taeyong | 55

▸The wealthy, successful owner of a fast growing electronics company. Pragmatic, serious and determined, Kyuhwan has well taken after his father, echoing many of his beliefs and attitudes. Taeyong is very strict and has high expectations for his son. Although he is sometimes bothered by his father's standards, Kyuhwan also has a lot of respect and gratitude for him. When it comes to his psychic abilities, Taeyong is ambivalent about his son using them since psychics aren't well accepted in society, but allows him to use them as long as he keeps it a secret. Althoug he seems cold and stern, Taeyong is very proud of all of Kyuhwan's achievement and all he wants for his son is success and happiness. 

 

Younger Sister | Cho Yoohyeon | 17 

▸Despite being siblings, Kyuhwan and Yoohyeon couldn't be more different. Unlike her brother, Yoohyeon has no interest in her father's company or work. She hates studying and mundane tasks and has dreams of being a actress. Kyuhwan's sister is outgoing, friendly and sensitive, a stark contrast to him. In short, starry-eyed dreamers and stubborn realists don't always get along. It annoys Yoohyeon that not a single conversation about her can occur without a mention of her "smart, talented, handsome brother" who she feels pressured to live up to. Despite their differences, the Cho siblings actually care a lot for each other. Yoohyeon is one of the few people Kyuhwan values and he is very protective of her. She lowkey wishes she had psychic powers too.

 

Acquaintence | Nam Yerin | 24 

▸He thinks Yerin is sweet, he appreciates her company, he really does but he isn't bent on cozying up to her. Kyuhwan though polite, still treats her with the same distance that he treats almost everyone else with. Nonetheless, Yerin is very kind and welcoming to Kyuhwan, perhaps she sees a sense of loneliness and longing for someone to understand in him. Yerin tries to get him to open up but she hasn't had much success. Still, she isn't about to give up soon no matter how many times he brushes her off or gives her the cold shoulder.

LIFESTYLE

▸Wakes up at 7:00 without a complaint and makes himself a dull breakfast of milk and toast. On Mondays and Wednesdays, he works as an accounting analyst for his father's company. At around 5:30pm he returns home, he showers before doing his homework or studying(he attends university but takes some parts online). If he needs to take a break, he plays piano for an hour or so or goes for a walk around the city perhaps visiting a new cafe. Before going to bed, he may read a book or browse the internet depending on his mood. 

 

ABILITY

▸Kyuhwan is very proficient at using his telekinesis. His telekinetic "grip" is highly dexterous, being able to pick up a pencil and write as if he was using his dominant hand. He is also able to maneuver his legs and balance his body to be able to "walk" using his telekinesis. He has excellent fine control over the objects he uses his powers on beyond simply picking things up and throwing them.

▸Initially, Kyuhwan was unable to use his telekinesis properly and would often have migraines and hyperventilate but through practice, much of it trial and error, he was able to execute his powers properly after a year. Side effects rarely occur for him nowadays but one every couple of months, he may have the occasional but painful headache.

▸Kyuhwan only uses his telekinesis to "walk" and doesn't see a reason to use it for trivial actions but he may occasionally pick up the remote of he's feeling particularly lazy. He also wants to keep his powers a secret from most people.

▸Ideally, he should take breaks from using his telekinesis but he doesn't.

He thinks about getting out of bed in the morning, walking to classes, getting back onto his feet every time he fell, to him, none of this would be possible without his telekinesis. He remembers the hyperventilation, headaches and violent coughing. It comes every few month to agonise him for exerting his powers. But he lifts himself up from his weakened state again, telekinetically.

It's quiet and has a comforting atmosphere. Whenever he's feeling stressed, he goes there. He doesn't know why, but the place puts him at ease.
