So I went to an escape room with 5 of my other friends a few days ago (March 19, 2017) We’re a group with both guys and girls. 4 girls and 2 guys LOL (fyi none of us are dating one another, we’re all single .-.) So for the escape room, we chose a scary themed room called “Asylum” with a scare factor of 5 (I thought the scale was out of 10) so I thought “Oh, it can’t be that scary then.” but when we got there, I asked the staff and realized the scale was out of 6, meaning the room we chose was pretty scary considering it was 5/6 for the scare factor. So the room we chose had a success rate of 5% which meant it was pretty hard.

Okay, when we got to the place, everyone was like unprepared and a bit worried. I’m a person who doesn’t scream or react while watching horror movies, but I do get scared, I just don’t show it. In a group full of 6 people, half of us are scaredy cats and the other half has no expression. So we were all getting ready to go to the room but most of us had to go to the washroom, so this guy, let’s call him ’S’ is literally the person who screams and yells the most, and he cannot watch scary movies. The other guy in our group, lets call him ‘A’, he’s probably the bravest out of all of us. ‘S’ asked ‘A’ to go with him to the washroom (probably cause he was scared) and they go together. Then us, the girls, we hear him yell. Turns out there was a painting of Albert Einstein and ‘S’ got startled by it. Then the girls went to the washroom and I was done before the others so I went out, and both guys tried to scare me and I showed no expression (I walked right past LOL)

Okay, now to the escape room. Before we went in, the staff had told us “Sometimes you’ll have to leave other people behind and move on without them.” and we were all nervous from his words. The room was completely dark, decorated like those rooms for patients who had a tendency to hurt themselves (it was all cushioned, floor, ceilings and walls) You could make out the shapes of objects, but not read words or numbers without a flashlight. So during the first part/room of the escape room, we were all to be handcuffed with one hand to the wall, and it was locked with a chain and a three/four dial combination lock along with a ‘patient tag’ attached. So between 6 people, we were only given one flashlight, and there were 2 locked boxes on the ground with some journal entries written by the ‘asylum patients’, and there were symbols on the walls that matched the symbols on our ‘patient tags’ I took one of the boxes and unlocked it after figuring out the lock combo and it revealed a LED flashlight, while playing around with it, one of the girls ’N’, noticed that when we shined the led flashlight onto the symbols, it revealed numbers and we realized these were the lock combos that unlock our handcuffs. I was literally the last person to get out of the handcuffs cause I pulled the lock instead of pushing on it, but ’S’ came over to help me. 

There was also a math equation on the wall and a map with X’s marked where ‘A’, ’N’ and ’S’ were handcuffed so we added the numbers up and substituted it into the equation to unlock the other box with the final combination for the door, when I entered the combo to the door, it unlocked and it opened to reveal the next room with a heavily chained door with three dial combination locks and some bloody handprints smeared across the room. We were all pretty scared to walk into the room and ‘A’, being the manly man he is, walked in right away with us trailing behind him. Okay, so then one of the other girls ‘C’ was excited about moving onto the second room and raised her arms in the air and shouted “HALLELUJAH!”, hitting ‘A’ in the face with the dangling handcuffs (all of us still had handcuffs as we only unlocked the side from the walls) We stopped at the desk next to the door to figure out the clues and it suddenly started banging and shaking, startling all of us. I just looked at it blankly while the others either yelled or  went “JESUS CHRIST!” or “HOLY !” with the exception of ‘A’ because he really is fearless O.o, OKAY THIS IS THE GOOD PART. I turned around and see ’S’ and one of the girls ‘L’ like hugging each other. ’S’ had his arms around her shoulder, protecting her, and she held onto him tight. They were actually so cute XD. I was scared that something was gonna scare us again so I was clinging onto ‘A’ because I knew he would protect me.

Okay so we made it to the last room, and from a hint we found, it directed us back to the second room to match the clues we found earlier, as we were all trying to solve it, the metal bar thingy on the floor suddenly moved loudly and made a big screech, causing us all to be surprised. ‘C’, she screamed and set off a chain reaction, causing everyone else to do the same and huddle together. Unconsciously, I found myself protecting them LOL I honestly had no idea what was happening but I screamed as well. Then ‘A’ walks over from the other room and goes like “What just happened?” and it was pretty funny. We ran out of time, but since it was our first time, it was probably expected, plus our room only had a 5% success rate.

When we were back outside, the staff went like “You guys were a very strong team, I’ve seen some guys just leave their girlfriends behind, and some protect them like you guys did.” OMFG HE THOUGHT ’S’ AND ‘L’ WERE DATING AHAH AND THAT ME AND ‘A’ WERE DATING I’M DYING XD (he was prob watching us from the security cams to prevent cheating and stuff)
