SEON! 선! ` used with the exclamation mark, this is often called by junwi with the furrowing of his eyebrows to catch her attention when she appears to be daydreaming while he is trying to say something important. junwi has probably used the exact same tonation while saying this so many times that the other members picked on and started imitating him.

BOOKWORM 책벌레 ` she always has a book in her hands other than when she's eating or playing on the keyboard, therefore rather self-explanatory. however, she can be seen with the same book for more than 5 months and people around her wonder if she really is reading or if she's antisocial and doesn't want to talk to humans.

THE NOEUL BAND 더노을밴드 ` a high school unofficial band that chaekyung joined in her second year of high school. she initially thought that noeul actually meant 'sunset' and found it pretty, but turns out it was the vocalist's name and she nearly quit. she was not really close with the other people in the band; she just don't find the need to, only meeting up for practice (& leaving on the dot) and performing during the school's talent show and special events.

BUSKING 버스킹 ` in which she reluctantly joins noeul aka the vocalist of the noeul band for busking activities around hongdae for about a month after their college exams to earn experience and extra bucks. the other members of the band chickened out the last minute therefore only the two of them. despite that, once again, chaekyung and noeul never forged a friendship because they never found the need to, and also, she's stuck up enough to have named a band after herself.

MOONLIGHT CAFE 달빛카페 ` where yooahn, who was working there as a cashier, managed to land chaekyung in a part time job to play live music/song requests for the customers in a band. as much as she enjoyed this job, it became difficult for her to juggle school work and this job, since it required her to work at dinner hours. due to that, she had to do assignments till the wee hours of the morning. therefore, quitting the job.

JW: what made you decide to join ngsy?
she stares at junwi for a few seconds, blinking, yet nothing comes out of .

"seon!" junwi raises his voice slightly, awakening her from her reverie.

"oh sorry... i didn't know we already started! can you repeat your question again?" her eyes widens.

he sighs. he was used to it, and tried to keep his cool, while repeating the question for her.

"honestly, you know it. i was majoring in korean history in seoul university and yooahn told me to audition. i didn't want to, at first. but he made it sound like my life would end if i didn't audition, so here i am." a small smile appears on her face for two seconds.

"well, of course, although i did not become a member of the band, you know, i'm still really happy to be part of it. my mum and dad would've been happy too ..." she adds on, it coming out as a mere whisper, her voice cracking a little.

jw: hm, what do you think of your skills? what makes you better than the rest? what can you offer ngsy?
she scratches the end of her right eyebrow, lips pressing into a thin line. "i don't think i'm really good at anything ..."

"oh, come on, you are."

"okay fine ... i guess i'm good at playing the keyboard. i've been playing it since i was eight, so ... i occasionally mess around the keyboard with porter. and academic-wise, i guess i'm okay? didn't graduate at the top but still -" chaekyung shrugs.

"you're a seoul uni graduate, have more confidence in yourself, please." junwi shakes his head.

"pft. anyone can get into seoul uni if they try hard enough ... !" she frowns.

"says who?"

"seon chaekyung."

after hearing a exasperated sigh from junwi, she lets out a grin.

jw: (sighs) as you know, we debuted three years ago. how has the journey been? what has happened so far? do you see it as a good or bad experience?
she smiles widely, her cheekbones showing. "it's been a ride. a good one. there's all the ups and downs, of course, but to actually meet strangers and the idea of becoming friends is a challenge for me. and, i actually did, or at least, tried, and i think that's really good. i think i will regret if i didn't accept your offer years ago, to be honest."

jw: alright, (frowns) well i didn't plan this question... but if today i gave you the choice to leave ngsy, would you take it?
she furrows her brows, refusing to speak.

"seon?"

"the thought of leaving ngsy never came across my mind ... i don't even want to think about it." she blinks, staring at the ground.

jw: what do you wish for in the next year?
"for ngsy to still be doing what we've been doing for the past three years, love what we are doing, and become more recognised." she beams.

"did you forsee this question being asked or something? because you replied real quick this time."

"uh ... don't everyone have their own new year's resolution? i just sort of taught of it, since the year's ending." she habitually shrugs.

jw: interesting. last question, are you close to any of the members?
"three years is a long period of time. is it possible to not grow close or attached to any of them?" she smiles.

chaekyung reminds everyone of a fallen superhero; one with a mind for justice yet does not have the ability to save the world. she's got a soft heart, yet she finds the most difficult in forgiving and forgetting. she is reserved, yet here she is, managing a band that puts her under spotlight that she used to yearn for.

TWO ` chaekyung dislikes the fact that everyone looks at her in awe when she mentions the fact that she's from seoul university, therefore she keeps it a secret. when she told her bandmates that she's from snu, all of them were in disbelief because honestly, how could someone so inattentive like chaekyung get in?

THREE ` she got on the rollercoaster after being forced by binna and sook, she vomitted for probably 2 minutes and looked as pale as a ghost, her soul pretty much left her. isang lit up rose-scented candles and chaekyung nearly choked. crossed the road because she wasn't paying attention and thought it was the green light more than once. has a collection of gudetema stickers that she doesn't even use. did online bidding for a wooden table and actually became the highest bidder; it now sits in the practice room where the member chuck almost everything on.

FOUR ` does not look like it but she has high tolerance for alcohol. when she's thoroughly drunk and wasted, her face would be flushed and she would insist that she isn't drunk. occasionally, would giggle to herself.

timeline.

chaekyung was born on the twenty-fourth of july, to seon donghyuk and shin chaewon. they were a happy family; chaekyung still remembers all their trips to the zoo and the picnics they had at the nearby park.

at age seven, she remembers being dressed in a hospital gown, holding her father's hand. she noticed that the rim of his eyes were red. her eyes shifted to her mother lying on the bed, in the room that was way too white and sterilised. her mother's eyes flutter open, and she gave her daughter a weak smile. never forget, the both of you, that i love you, she said before a deafening 'beep' was heard. her father's hold on her tightened and he bit his lips, tears at the corner of his eyes. daddy, why is mummy not opening her eyes?, she questioned, too young to understand. your mummy's such a kind person, she become an angel. we won't see her, but she will always be in our hearts, remember that, sweeheart, he replied, quickly wiping his tears. i want to be angel too when i grow up, just like mummy, she let go of her father's hand and kissed her mother on her cheek.

she saw less of her father afterwards. he busied himself with work, only coming home past midnight when chaekyung was already asleep. he spoke lesser, she spoke lesser too. she seeked solace in the keyboard that her mother used to play at home; the sounds too haunting for the man who lost his wife. yet, he still hired a teacher to come over to teach his daughter everything.

it was pneumonia, she overheard, when she was twelve. when she was fifteen, she wondered why she never noticed. yet, she did her best in everything. she did not want her father to worry about her. she knows he's having a hard time.

amidst all the significant As she scored in highschool, she joined a band in her second year. to her dismay, the name of the band was the name of the vocalist's name, and she wondered who would be so conceited to actually name a band after herself. though the band only performed during school events and the vocalist's voice was one that chaekyung would hate listening to, she had to admit it was pretty fun to play music.

then, at the same year, she befriended bae yooahn, who was her tablemate for six months. he unwinded her, made her start talking more. she is thankful that he somehow brought her out of her shell. she's had her first heartbreak, her first rejection, and yooahn was there with her. she is grateful for him, but she doesn't express it.

she got accepted into the prestigious seoul university, where she chose to major in korean history. history was one of the subjects that she had always done well in, furthermore, her father has been working at an artefact museum and the thought of having something in common with him made her happy.

the same year, yooahn shoved his laptop right in front of her face. they're looking for members! you should try!, he beams. she shook her head at first, though after much convincing, she relented. she tells her father about it, and to her surprise, he volunteers to record a video of her playing the keyboard, before she sends an email to ko junwi with shaky hands.

she received a reply from junwi a few days later, opening the email with a thudding heart that soon dropped. Dear Seon Chaekyung, it read, While we have already found a keyboardist for the band, we are currently looking for the band's manager and it appears to me that you are suitable for it. It definitely is not the position you wanted, but do get back to me if you remain interested in being part of the band, as the manager. she sighed, she's always a step short of her dream, but she did not mind. it was close enough, for her.

chaekyung's daily wear would normally be whatever she gets her hand on, which would be an oversized hoodie or pullover, with shorts or ripped jeans. in warm weathers, she would opt for a t-shirt with minimal designs with shorts and sneakers. she goes around without makeup, not because she feels confident about her face, but she just doesn't find the need to wear it. for formal events that requires her to be in front of cameras, she would wear a dress that stops nowhere shorter than the middle of her thighs, with high heels or wedges, which is not her comfort zone, of course. she puts on makeup; mascara, eyeliner, red, magenta or pink lipstick.
