PERSONALITY :

X I'll always have your back. The type of person to stand up for her friends and get lots of trouble for it - most probably, Hong Gayoung. Fiercely loyal, she will flash her sharp teeth at you if you try to hurt any of her loved ones. She won't hesitate to ignore you if you say something bad about her, but if you utter even a single bad word about her friends or family, she'll undoubtedly put up a fight with you. Usually compassionate, Gayoung helps everybody she sees struggling. An older person carrying heavy bags of grocery? "Oh, imo, I'll carry that for you." A beggar asking for money? "Here you go. Please live well." A trainee needing help with practice? "If you think of this pattern, you'll be able to memorize the dance faster." Unknowingly, she becomes soft-hearted when it comes to helping others. Seeing people encounter hardships, of course she's also been through them. As a result, she can't help but feel compassion for them. Moving on, she's quite courageous. She's usually the kind to face a challenge head-on. There was a time when she was the first one who entered the haunted house bravely. Of course, her trip was accompanied by not-so-attractive squeals and shouts. Nevertheless, she felt a rush of adrenaline, and because of that thrill, she learned to like taking many challenges. She was never the type to back down. Growing up, she realized that life was not easy, but if you had courage and positivity, you'd have the gall to overcome the hardships of life. That's why Gayoung likes to think of the bright side of things. Even if she's stuck in an elevator she would try to think that she'd be safe and that someone would rescue her eventually. And she'd think of rainbows. Literally. Rainbows just calm her down ( weird, but that's kinda a secret ). Being an optimist somehow made her affectionate. Be it her words or actions, you'd think she likes you because she's unknowingly touchy and fond. As a habit, she leans her head on someone's shoulder, slings her arm around his/her neck, holds their hands ( to play with their fingers ) and ruffles their hair. It's just something she unconsciously does, really. People, however, often misinterpret her, and Gayoung always has to declare that she's normally like that.

X Oops... I wasn't supposed to say that. Gayoung, with her words and actions, is really straightforward. She's not the type to blush and be shy. In fact, if she likes you, she'll be really blunt about it. She'll show it bravely and make the moves ( which sadly other people didn't like about her ). Vice versa, if she hates you, she won't hesitate to tell you. She'll show it by openly rolling her eyes or indirectly talking bad about you. In this kind of way, she's also harsh. She doesn't care if she just met you; if you're rude to her, she'll be rude to you, too. However, even if she's really hard on people she doesn't like, she's not the type to easily hate either. She won't mind a person unless he/she was rude to Gayoung first. Regarding her other flaws, she's also tactless. She doesn't really like thinking, so she just immediately says what's on her mind. If she thinks a member is wearing weird socks, she'll just admit it out loud. Everyone around her knows that's how she is so they just laugh it off, but other people she doesn't really know can misinterpret it. In another sense, she's not secretive with confidential stuff. Sometimes she just accidentally spills things that are not supposed to be said, so people close to her don't really tell her things. When there is a secret camera for another member, the other members don't inform her so she's also surprised when they reveal that it's all been planned. Gayoung knows that she's careless though, so she just lets it go and jokes about it.
 

BACKGROUND :

X Gayoung was born in Mokpo, Seoul, South Korea, and has been residing there ever since 1997. Her father, a business man, is married to a previous accountant. After having her older sister Jaeyoung and Gayoung, she retired and became a housewife instead. Her parents aren’t really strict with what they would like to be in the future, but of course, they both wanted the best for them. Being a business man though, Mr. Han wanted either one of them to be into business like him, but as his children were into other fields, he just supported them. Before though, Gayoung didn't know what she wanted to be, so she opted to become a business woman like her father. **ADDED ** In school, she didn't excel too well, but she didn't do poorly, either. Instead, she was an average student with C+ and B- grades. Because of her outgoing personality, she had a lot of friends, and it got her to be on the good side of the teachers, too. Despite having slow processing skills and understanding, she tried her best in doing homework, projects and group works.

X From the start, Gayoung was already into music. She listened mostly to foreign ones, but slowly, as the K-Pop craze spread, she also became a fan of different groups. But what got her attention most was Super Junior. It was in the "It's You" era when she spotted her older sister watching the music video. What started out from being a fan of Eunhyuk gave way to a dream she unconsciously yearned for. Shortly after becoming an Elf, she became a Shawol, then a MeU ( though, back in 2009, f(x) had no fandom name ) and a Cassiopeia. Gayoung became interested in dancing, and she attempted several dances like NuAbo, Into the New World and Gee with her sister. It developed her interest and skill, so she became addicted with dancing. Slowly, she learned different dances, and she also learned to appreciate different genres of music.

X Her love for it grew when she found out that she actually had the talent for it. At first, Gayoung just studied through online dancing classes and watched mirrored dance practices because she thought it was just a mere hobby, but it grew to the point that she really wanted to pursue it. So seeing her fervor, Gayoung’s parents enrolled her into a real dancing school so that she could enhance and improve. From there, her career started.

X FATHER — Han Jungyeol [49] | Businessman | Austere, but actually playful, lighthearted and protective | 3/5 | As a father, naturally he wants the best for his daughters. Even though he's really open for them to make their own decisions, he's still really protective, always looking out for them. In this way he really shows his loves for his family. He jokes around a lot, but as much as he's like that, he's serious when he needs to be. He often watches the television so he knows a lot of politics and business, thus he teaches Gayoung and Jaeyoung whenever he has the chance.

X MOTHER — Jeon Haejin [47] | Housewife ( retired accountant ) | Easygoing, naggy, concerned | 3/5 | Just like any mother, she nags a lot, but it's only because she cares a lot for her daughters. She often scolds and chides Gayoung for always drinking coffee ( "It's terribly bad for your health!" ). Thus, when she comes home, all her mother serves her is organic tea or water. Overall, they have a lighthearted relationship; sometimes Gayoung jokes around with her mother and sometimes they have serious talks.

X OLDER SISTER — Han Jaeyoung [22] | College student | Stubborn, humorous, caring | 5/5 | Jaeyoung and Gayoung has always been stuck to the hip ever since they were little kids. They don't know if it's the small , or if it's just really their personalities. Jaeyoung acts like she doesn't pay attention too Gayoung much, but she's actually no. 1 in the "How well do you know Gayoung" test. They are usually playful with each other, but Gayoung treats her as a confidant as well, telling her everything, especially when it's about boys or if she's having problems.

X BEST FRIEND — Lee Taeyong [22] | Singer ( NCT ) | Easygoing, reliable, playful | 4/5 | Despite being two years older, he actually acts like he's just the same age as Gayoung. They had met as they were both trainees in SM. Through so much opportunities, they became acquaintances until they had hit off. Despite his cold exterior, he's actually really warm and playful. Gayoung thinks of him as an older brother because of his protectiveness and reliability. Taeyong teases her every chance he gets, though. But when someone messes with Gayoung, he's gonna turn serious.

TRAINEE LIFE :

X An SM representative happened to be in Gayoung's dance school when she was performing for the monthly evaluations, so she was scouted. In SM, the training system was obviously great, and Gayoung learned a lot ( even singing and speaking other languages ). She had a lot of friends because of her approachable personality, but she was also hated by a handful of trainees ( for what reason, she doesn't know ). Now, the main cause why she quit SM was because she had enough of their hatred. They were openly talking bad about her, and it grew to the point that they were pranking her ( locking her in the bathroom, 'accidentally' bumping into her, etc. ). She had no choice but to fight back. Her endurance, however, was only so little. She couldn't help but quit. After a few months of rest, Gayoung auditioned in Polaris when she found out they were holding an audition near Mokpo.

X Polaris Entertainment, though small, has been nothing but family to her. Sure, there were also a few hateful trainees that didn't get along with her, but Gayoung tried to befriend as much as possible as she didn't want the same situation at SM to happen twice. Of course, at first, she had a hard time adjusting. Because she was new, no one really paid attention to her. She was all alone when she ate and practiced. Even though she was surrounded by trainees, she still felt like she was lonely because she knew no one personally. When she learned that she was going to debut, she was put in a dorm with the other original members and that's where she became more open. They were all very nice to her so she quickly became friends with them. Amidst all that, she came to see how everybody was talented so Gayoung tried harder, staying late practicing, and whenever she saw that she didn't perfect the dance/song, she tried extra hard.

WHICH GENERATION LINE-UP ARE YOU? : 

X Gayoung grins, fully knowing that they were going to ask this question. "I'm in the first generation line-up."

why did you join the group? : 

X She ponders a bit over her answer. "Well, I was picked by the company to join the group," she laughs at her attempt to kid, "but seriously, I joined 'cause I love singing and dancing. I realized that I really wanted to pursue this kind of road. It's hard," she pauses to shrug, "however, everything is worth it." Gayoung smiles at her answer.

what are your hopes? : 

X "My hopes?" She voices, a little confused. The interviewer nods, and Gayoung pouts, trying to think of a good response. "Hmm... oh! I would really like it if people would feel the happiness I'm trying to relay to everyone through our songs." Gayoung grins, satisfied.

how DO YOU FEEL THE ADDING OF THe OTHER MEMBerS? : 

X "Truthfully, as one of the original members, I was kind of skeptic at first." Gayoung says, nodding. "They were all so nice and comfortable to be with though, so I immediately adjusted with them. Their colors are really diverse but all in all our images mix well together so..." She laughs. "I felt relieved that the company added them."
