— ELEGANCE.
FACE CLAIM — Angelababy
BACK UP FACE CLAIM — Jin Hai Lin
APPEARANCE —
♚ height/weight — 171cm./51kg.
♚ hair — Dark brown, really heavy waves, usually styled up in a bun or back in a ponytail or braid. Only loose when she's sleeping or not going anywhere.
♚ eyes — when she's hungry, instead of the usual blood red common vampires get, hers turn blue, the color blood is before it's exposed to oxygen. This color change is more common within the Royal bloodline of vampires.
♚ mouth — slightly elongated canines when not hungry, but when bloodlust is strong (listen, even dhampires have a slight dependency on blood, and her royal blood makes it a bit worse.) both her canines get longer. Her lips are a dark red basically 100% of the time as well.
♚ skin — Her skin, is, of course, pale, but with her human blood in her, she has a bit of color in her cheeks and is able to withstand sunlight... in doses. It can seriously irritate and burn her skin if she doesn't take precautions. So she's usually covered up in her fashion.

STYLE — Mary's sense of style is... well, she has a wide variety of tastes. But featuring staples of her style is simple enough. Before her hibernation, back in the Three Kingdoms era, she wore traditional robes, such as hanfu and luxurious gowns, but since she was young and beautiful and quite flirtatious, tending to make her clothing a bit more revealing or flirtatious as time wore on.

When Mary was revived, around the 20th century, she wore the fashion at the time, tailered qipaos and more of a westernized style as time wore on. Her hair was cut to about the length it's been kept at for the last 100 years or so, styled in the popular side bun or braid at the time. When she arrived at MRA, a uniform was given to her, which she will wear occasionally, but she mostly sticks with the 20th century qipaos and style. She loved that era, for whatever reason it may be, and it shows with her fashion tastes.

I feel like it would fit her style much more than a shorter uniform skirt would. If not, she can wear tights underneath ^-^~)

As far as formal dresses go, as the MRA ball came closer, she honestly had no idea what was acceptable for her "kind" to wear, she hadn't been amongst her people in years. However, much like Xue Hua, she recieved a package from her father, requesting her to wear her heritage with pride and another formal dress for "attracting yourself a good mate" from Rongrong... with a beautiful jade hairpin to accompany it. So, she didn't want to be rude.

PERSONALITY
♔ Mature, Impartial, Charming, Trustworthy.
♚ Flirtatious, Bossy, Deceptive, Domineering.

Well, they say that maturity comes with age... and Mary's got a LOT of both. She's got a good handle on emotions and how to control them, as well as how to keep her temper and has a well rounded view of the world. This doesn't make her like a mom, persay, but it makes her a good person to come to in times of trouble. On the other hand, she's also the world's biggest flirt, I mean, she sort of impacted history itself because of her beauty and her nature. She just finds it natural for her to lure people by being a bit risque, a bit daring. How's that a bad thing?

When there's a fight, and you want a completely neutral party, well, Mary's as neutral as Switzerland, and will definitely not show any bias. She's got a very strong sense of justice and what's fair and what's right, regardless of how it might affect others. Unfortunately, because of this, she thinks she knows best and can be bossy and push people around to do the right thing. She just wants everything to be as it should and she thinks she knows what it should be.

She's got to thank her little bit of vampiric charms to add onto this trait, but people just seem to be drawn to her, to want to be around her. I mean, she's confident, she's got patience, impartial, pretty funny, and not to mention a smile that's killer... hah. But charms can be used to hide things, and Mary definitely uses this to her advantage. She doesn't like letting people into her own world, preferring to deter and to used situations to her advantage, all while making it seem like it's no big deal when actually it's actually kinda terrible.

Unfortunately for others, though, because of her (super)natural charm, a lot of people find her trustworthy and tell her a lot of things. Like, she's the source of overflowing, always growing gossip and drama that's happening around campus. Which is fine, she doesn't see why she'd go around prattling about other's business... Unless she can get something out of it. Mary's dominant, there's no other way to go about it. She likes being in control, she likes having the upper hand in all situations she's in. So she usually is. When she's not... she finds a way to end up on top. In whatever means necessary.

— WISDOM.
PAST —

Ever heard of the Four Great Beauties of China? As it turns out, they weren't just beautiful because of good genetics. They were supernatural beings, each from their own kind. While each left a trace of their existence, one didn't. DiaoChan. She was written about in fantasy novels, but with no real evidence that she existed. Until now... because you know, she's actually attending the school.

DiaoChan was born as a dhampire, born of the Vampire King and his favorite human concubine around the late Third Kingdoms time period. DiaoChan grew up wanting nothing and being raised as a princess, but always painfully aware of her status blood-wise. Just because she was a princess, did not mean others respected her all the time. Her fellow sisters scorned her, those who were born from the full blooded vampire consorts, and the daughter of the queen herself. Dhampires were looked down upon for their “dirty” blood, they were weak because of their humanity. Perhaps that's why her Father took special care of her, doting on her more than the rest of the girls. So far, he was unable to have a son, and while it was clear that the princess of his queen was next in line in case something were to happen, she was rather bored and tired of the royal duties, often opting out and running off with her other sisters. Since DiaoChan was never invited, she usually stayed with her mother, and so she'd offered to attend these training sessions and lessons that her father wanted. She started coming along often, and outsiders and the vampiric people he ruled over thought she was one of the queen's daughters, praising her for her beauty. After finding out about her "dirty blood", however, the public dismissed her, saying that while she might be the favorite now, surely the King would soon have a "suitable heir".

Regardless of this, her father raised her as the princess and used her to learn the trade of dealings with leaders of other races of creatures. Specifically, at the time, the Wangs came to pass with the Warlord Dong Zhou, a human leader who had treaded into vampire territory. At the time, the princess came along with her father, and Dong Zhou brought his own son, Lu Bu. DiaoChan had the appearance of about 12 at this time, and Lu Bu was around 14. Far too young to fall in love, but with Dong Zhou still being a greedy human, King Wang arranged for them to meet every few years to rearrange and settle land and monetary. When asked about his fairness and why he didn’t just kill and take as he wanted, the Vampire King simply replied, “Humans are a delicate species. But, they are not unable to see reason and I will continue to work to find peace between our kinds.”

Over time, Lu Bu and Diaochan became close, since the meetings that their fathers would have quickly bore the two kids, finding amusement in talking to each other. Lu Bu never treated her any differently and spoke gently to her, and DiaoChan was intelligent and could talk with Lu about many things without being offended. It didn’t take long for the two to start falling in love.

Things were going sour between human and vampires, though, and soon the two were forbidden to see each other. That did not stop Lu Bu, however, to sneak out and see her when he could. All was well for the two secret lovers, but these kinds of situations do not last long.  Warlord Dong Zhou found out about the relationship and claimed that the Dhampire Princess was a witch and cast a spell on his beloved son, causing a war to break in between the two races, with the vampires in an uproar about the princess situation. DiaoChan was to go into hiding, and remain so until the discontent amongst the people had settled down. News of the war circulated to her in pieces and fragments, but never received any about Lu Bu. She begged and begged to be told of his whereabouts if her protector heard anything about it, and he reluctantly agreed. Once, while he was patrolling, he heard of the human prince being executed as a consequence to something the humans had done. He contacted the King first about how to break the news, and the King, still dealing with the discontent amongst his people and war, asked for his daughter to be forced into slumber.

As a dhampire, DiaoChan would be easy to force into slumber: A bit of garlic along with a strong dose of nightshade in her tea would shock her human half, and her vampiric half would force her into hibernation to do damage control. She would awaken when her body fully recovered, but in her weak state, exhausted and heartbroken over the lack of news of her lover, the dose had a stronger effect on her than normal.

When she awoke, it was centuries later, about 1933, to say, and she was lost and confused. She had no idea what was going on, where she was, or what era it was, only that she was really hungry and that the older female standing next to her bed looked absolutely delicious. The woman then offered her her arm, and without thinking she bit into the vein that was ever so slightly protruding, drinking the blood until she was satisfied. When she finished though, she was horrified, taking in the drastic changes of fashion and technology that had developed while she was asleep. Her foster parents explained that the way had happened and what year it was, and it only furthered her hurt -- she knew that Lu Bu and her mother would both be long gone at this point. She demanded to be taken back to her father, only to be told that she had to wait in silence until her Father gave the word. She wondered what they meant, and they explained that during the war, the humans managed to invade the palace and take the lives of many of the consorts and their daughters, with the firstborn princess of the queen also dying. The queen was so overcome with grief that she soon died as well. In other words, she was one of the only ones that could take the throne when the time comes. Her father had decided on her, only to be revelaed when she was truly ready. He wasn't going to lose anyone else he loved.  They took measures to ensure her safety, such as developing her identity as Mariwen, a normal vampire (that much couldn't be hidden) who had just been turned and didn't know her way around the world yet.

MOIRA ACADEMY — Well, her father wanted her to attend (you know, King of the Vampires) so he arranged for the school to contact her and her foster family, so she could be even further protected and attend classes that could help her in the future when she became Queen of the Vampires. She appreciates her father's intentions, but she's still not over the fact that it's basically 1,000 years later for her, she's missed a lot and can be slow on the uptake when it comes to technology and finding things. She's determined to use their resources to find out more about the war and possibly about her mother and Lu.

She spends a lot of her time in the kitchen or in the library when not in class, bothering her new Lu or trying to find information on her old Lu. There's only one book that holds what happens to Lu Bu, and it's in the far back, being an old book written in traditional characters about the Three Kingdoms War. Lu Bu was actually forcibly married off by his father, but died trying to find DiaoChan -- he never stopped loving her. If DiaoChan were to find the book and read it, she'd be heartbroken and would probably want to be alone for awhile, so she could properly grieve and start to move on from Lu Bu. It's quite possible, though, that she never will.

POWERS — As a dhampire, she has some advantages of being half human, some advantages of being half vampire, but still holds onto some of the limitations of both sides of her hertitage.
♚ sun and garlic  — unlike full blooded vampires, she is not going to burst into flames -- however she does get nasty sunburns when not covered up. And she has an allergy to garlic, so she avoids it like the plague.
♚ Self-Biokinesis  — She has the ability to manipulate her body, but only in dire situations, such as when she survived the garlic and nightshade. Her body stopped her heart to keep her alive, and resessitated itself after awhile.
♚ Power Sensing  — Mary is able to sense the powers/species of others and while she can't always narrow it down correctly, she has a good sense of whether or not to mess with someone.

TRIVIA —
♚ Mariwen has a facisination with human food -- she thinks that it's so weird that it tastes normal and she can digest it, but nothing satisifies her quite like blood can. She's been experimenting putting blood into human dishes and seeing what happens.
♚ Her favorite colors are gold, red, and orange.
♚ When she HAS to go outside, she slathers herself in sunblock and either has a parasol or a large straw hat and shawl wrapped tightly around her body to prevent burning.
♚ Everytime she hears "Lu", she perks up and looks around, only to feel heartbreakingly disappointed when she sees no one.
♚ She has an aversion to deep water because she can't swim.
♚ Whenever there's free time, Mary can be found in the library, looking into 'vampires' and 'vampiric history' to find criteria on what happened after she went to sleep or hints on her lineage. She finds herself in a lot of fiction stories and myths, though, if she could just find the non-fiction section...
♚ Mary is a hub for gossip -- she hears a lot and is known to be a good listener, so people come to her. Chances are if you hear a rumor, Mary's a good source to confirm or deny it.
♚ Usually Mary writes in traditional characters and speaks very formally, having come from a time where simplified characters weren't created yet.
♚ Is notoriously bad at this whole "technology" and modern thing, the only thing she's really good at is the sass. All of it. Sass Master Mary comin' at you.

— LOYALTY.
FAMILY —

father | Wang, Fengyi | Aarif Rahman | Vampire King | Ancient of Days (aka way older than Mary) | dominant, fair, intimidating, jaded
Fengyi sees Mariwen as his entire world, and was only thinking of her safety when it came to her hibernation. He made sure that no one knew where his daughter went to protect her from those who wanted to bring her harm. He'd bring her back to her rightful place as Princess when the people wouldn't scorn her as they did to her back when she was young. He's lost too many people he's loved that he's cared about, and really only had a handful of people left after the invasion --including his daughter in a coma and under the protection of his advisors, and her mother when she became old and died. Her mother did not want to become a vampire to serve under her master, she chose to live out her life in peace, and Fengyi granted her that wish, however much did it hurt him.  He's quite jaded about the fragility of humans and their violent nature and wouldn't want his daughter to fall in love with one.
Foster Father / Protector | Fan, Yuting  | Mark Chao | Vampire | Old as Time (about 1,800) | intelligent, responsible, loyal, paternal
When King Fengyi first came to him and told him that he not only had to protect his daughter as he had been, but also become a foster father to her until further notice -- Yuting was not for this plan. He agreed to it, because, you know, you can't say no to the King. But he was like "I don't like kids. Kids don't like me. It's a mutual sort of agreement we have." But since Mariwen stayed asleep for so long, he was actually relieved when she woke up and even more relieved when she started moving around. To say he got attached is... accurate. He cares a lot for Mary and would do just about anything for her. He, along with RongRong, are expected to stay close on the grounds of MRA, watching over Mary in case of something going awry. Yuting checks in often during times where he knows Mary is in the library or out of class -- he has a copy of her MRA schedule and access to her dorm if there's an emergency.
Foster Mother (Consort of Yuting)  |  Chen, Rongrong | Janine Chang | human | 35 | protective, willing, mature, witty
Rongrong is a beautiful young woman who is very obedient and always willing to give Mary a drink of her blood when she needs it. As the consort to Yuting, though, she must put him in priority, which is understandable. For their relationship, it isn't love but a mutual survival and agreement they came to. She would be his consort in exchange for her safe travels out of the city of Shanghai (at the time, Shanghai was a city of poverty and slums -- she wanted out, he could get her out... for a price. She was willing to pay.). She has scars littered along her wrists, neck, and various other points where a vein can be accessed.

(Note: Her mother was a human of unknown descent and Fengyi has either burned or destroyed all evidence of her for the sake of Mary's protection.)

FRIENDS —
Friend | Wu, Xue Hua | Kang Yu Qian | human | 19 | courageous, saracastic, blunt
While Xue Hua and Mariwen wouldn't be considered best friends, Mary admires and likes being around Xue Hua. Xue Hua is quite an exceptional young lady and loves taking chances and doing things, which, well, Mary has always been slightly wary of. Xue Hua encourages Mary to go out and do, rather than stay and watch. They balance each other well, even though Xue Hua does complain that it's like she has two protectors and parents (Yifan and Mary) rather than two friends.
Library Buddy and Best Friend | Min Gyeoul | Wendy of Red Velvet | cursed human | 17 | trustworthy, vengeful, confident
Mariwen met Gyeoul through school, and they bonded right away with their commonalities and similarities. Mary understands Gyeoul and feels something akin to maternal over the younger, always looking out and making sure her emotions are as calm as they can be. Gyeoul helps Mary with her languages and in the library when she can, always flipping through countless books and having conversations over anything and everything. These two are very close and you can see that through their care for each other.

OTHERS —
Mentor / Professor | Young, Theodore | Scott Foley | vampire | 543 | kind, intelligent, respectful
As a fellow vampire, it made sense that Mary was to be put under the care of Mr. Young at the Academy. She gets very awkward, however, with the amount of respect and attention that he gives her -- she really just wants to be a normal student for once. She appreciates the kindness, but would really rather he just treat her as another vampire. "I'm a student, you know, not royalty." She'll joke, much to the irony of the situation.

♚ Always on my mind / Ex-lover | Lu, Bu  | Luhan (in situations like this and this. Thanks Chinese Running Man, you're a gem lol) | human | deceased, unknown cause of death. | loving, hardworking, awkward
Lu Bu was her first love, and one that she didn't think would be taken from her in such a cruel way. She knows that in a way, she still loves him. Mary thinks that by finding out what happened to him (whether he married and moved on, waited for her, died in battle) will heal her, much like if she finds out more about what happened to her mother. She thinks of him often, trying to thread together bits and pieces of memories of their time spent together -- Mary knows this is not exactly a healthy way to grieve, but it's all that she has.

Mother | Margeaux Wang (also known as Mary) | Morgan Dubled | human | deceased, unknown cause of death. | wise, charming, kind
Mary goes by Mary because of her mother, who also used the name since her birthname is harder to pronounce if you aren't used to the language. Margauex loved her daughter and her King equally, but refused to allow herself to be changed so she may remain with her loves forever. "I was born this way for a reason, do not change fate for selfish reasons." She'd say everytime the King asked. She disappeared during the War, and it's rumored that the Queen allowed for Mary to be kidnapped by the humans and executed as revenge for 'stealing her husband'.

— LU HAN.
choi seungcheol, zhang yixing
PLOTLINE — Royal Paterisser (human), Vampire's Consort (human)
BIRTHDAY/AGE — 04, 12, 1990; 25
NICKNAMES —
♛ Lu — It's just a common nickname amongst his friends, especially The Ethical Thief.
♛ Witch Boy — His mom's the baking witch, so it kinda came with the territory.

PERSONALITY
♕ patient, humorous, energetic, kind.
 possessive, vain, bossy, stubborn.

When he's with his best friend, most would think that he's actually not that patient -- but he is, he's just been friends with the Thief for so long that his patience for him has long since run out. But usually, he's very patient and willing to wait and doesn't mind a lot of things, taking insults and such in stride. Luhan likes to joke and make light of most situations if he can, liking to make others smile and smiling in return. Regardless of life, smiling is the best thing you can do, in his opinion. If there's one thing Luhan has a lot of, not including his good looks, is his energy. He's on his feet all day, baking, making things, and he's still got energy to spare afterwards to hang out and play with others. He doesn't seem to run out of it. Luhan is also impossibly kind. Because his mother could be so mean, he vowed not to be unkind to another being. No one deserves to be treated as he and his mother were treated, or how his mother was towards Hansel and Gretel.

While that's all well and good, Luhan's got a few ugly sides to him as well, as much as he wouldn't admit to the 'ugly' part. For one, he's possessive. What's his is his, do not touch or change. This goes for all of his belongings, especially his recipes. It makes his relationship with the Thief that much funnier, but trust me, that man's learned the hard way not to touch Luhan's things. Please, please don't tell Luhan he's pretty -- trust me, he already knows and is very much well aware of it. He also makes sure that everyone else is aware of it. A lot. Since he thinks he knows best, Luhan can be quite bossy in the kitchen, especially when it comes to pastries. He knows best, he'll insist, do it his way and it'll turn out well. This goes outside the kitchen to, with his friends -- just do as he sasy and you won't get in trouble (sideeyes the Thief.) When it comes to decisions and choices, once Luhan's made up his mind (even if he's dead wrong) he will not change his mind. He's stubborn in his ways and mindset and it's hard to get him to think any other way or to do anything other than what he's decided.

PAST — As the son of the Witch that tried to eat Hansel and Gretel, he really didn't have it easy. Other kids would joke that he's going to eat them if they aren't careful, and so he tended to be alone for the most part. And then, he met the Ethical Thief. The kid ran into him literally, trying to run away after pickpocketing one of the boys and had begged little Lu to hide him, saying he would owe him if he did. Luhan didn't see the harm, so he helped him out. After that, the Ethical Thief just stuck around. Whether it was because they were good friends or because Luhan had really discovered that he was a good baker was a bit blurred.

Luhan had finally gotten his life together when of course, his best friend just HAD to go and mess up. Luhan had opened up his own bakery, it was small and was a fixer upper but he was determined to make it work. But when his friend was dragged in with the White Knight holding him, he knew that this was bad. When the Knight sentenced his best friend to work off his debt, Luhan, being the nice person he is, offered to help. Moreso, the Thief all but begged him with his eyes to help him out, and so he did. Now he's stuck in a kitchen being forced to bake a bunch of sweets and occasionally (and he means really occasionally since his first night there when he was assigned to help bake chicken) food for the students.
While he's at the school working, the White Knight promised that his bakery would stay safe and would still be his when he returned. Luckily, there's a nice old woman who lived down the way (Gretel, surprisingly, but unknown to him. fc: Liu Xiaoqing) who offered to clean and upkeep the place whilst Luhan was at school as well. The Knight isn't rude to everyone -- the Thief just thinks he's the devil incarnate. Luhan personally doesn't think the Knight's a bad guy -- he just wishes that he'd listen to Chan from time to time, after all his best friend doesn't steal for a bad reason. Ethics are blurred, not straight lines like the Knight tends to think.

TRIVIA —
Best baker in the world, but do not ask him to cook anything. It will burn and chances are the utensils he's using will also be unuseable.
Takes great pride in his appearance and wears a beanie to cover his hair in the kitchen -- no flour or anything in his perfectly mantained hair, thanks.
When he needs to "fight" or punish someone (like his best friend) he has a rolling pin that he's particularly fond of batting people on the head with -- The Thief frequently complains that it probably has his blood on it for as many times as he's been hit with it.

— CARING.
FIRST MEETING — Mariwen was just eating dinner, when she spotted a particularly delicious looking cookie and grabbed it, wanting to taste the sweet. And she'll swear when she bit into it, it was perfect... except it was missing something. Blood. Blood, in Mary's opinion, makes everything better. So she decided to go down into the kitchen and request a specific cookie batch just for her. Imagine Luhan's surprise when this young woman was led to him and she said, "Can you make this with blood in it???" Holding up one of his cookies.

RELATIONSHIP — Luhan honestly tried to avoid the dhampire for a long, long time before finally giving in, because of course Mariwen just comes and goes into the kitchen asking for blood tainted sweets. But Luhan is a protective and possessive Luhan, especially over his recipes -- they're perfect as is, so there's no need to change. So really, Mary just wanted to bother the pretty human boy about it. She really did want the sweets, but she just liked how he flushed with anger and defended his recipes. (She'd always leave with some sort of baked good at the end of their little spats in the kitchen, though.)

She felt drawn to him, honestly, and kept coming back to him. She first froze up when she heard the Thief call him "Lu", having been agnozing over that name for years... So she stuck to him even more, wanting to see if perhaps this Lu was like her Lu. As it kept going, Mariwen found herself really liking the baker boy, with his strange humor and dedication to his work. It kept her looking for her own answers, and soon she found herself spending more time out of the library and with what she called now, her Lu.

Luhan thought that this girl was beyond pretty, but was very cautious -- he was prettier, he'd remind himself, and he didn't want to be blindesided by someone. Soon enough, he found himself joking with her, blaming it on her supernatural charm that made him so comfortable and willing to bake for her (however, not willing to change his recipes for her, he was pleased to note). The more time she spent around him, the more he noticed small things, like how she never spoke over him, how she always apprecaited his food, even though she'd spent at least half an hour complaining about how he didn't use blood... It was nice, having this kind of relationship, he thought. Luhan caught himself tasting a new pastry and immediately thinking of how Mary would like it, and he knew then that he was screwed. He did like her, he valued her opinions and thought that their relationship, however teasing and unorthodox it was, was a good thing. He also spent some time doing his own research on her kind once he found out. He didn't want to accidentally offend her -- but then he found out about Lu Bu and DiaoChan. It wasn't a confirmed part in history, but the way they described DiaoChan made him think of Mariwen. Ever since then, he doesn't know if he's a replacement for this Lu or if Mary really genuinely likes Luhan.

CONCLUSION — Honestly, it's a 50/50 with these two. It's not that Luhan doesn't like Mariwen, it's obvious that he does, but when he found out about Lu Bu, he feels like she might just be replacing him for the Lu that she lost. And Mariwen can't blame him. She doesn't even know that much about herself, so why would she ask another to love her when she doesn't even know herself and what's there?

— COURAGE.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS — I tried to include Chinese history but here we are and if it makes no sense I will rewrite and redo because I got really excited about the background I came up with but it also might not work so just lemme know and I fix it, yeah? (:

SCENE SUGGESTIONS —
♚ Luhan and Mariwen attempting to cook or bake together, with Mariwen constantly trying to put blood in it and Luhan screeching about the sancity of his recipes.
♚ When Mary first hears of his nickname, she gets really sad and almost starts crying because of Lu Bu.
♚ Luhan rolling pinning the Ethical Thief or even other applicants he interacts with. (much interactions with everyone and anyone, really ^^)

PASSWORD — "Love is risky and scary. But, if you don't take that chance, you'll be left wondering 'what if' for the rest of your life."
