ATTENTION TO ALL AUTHORS!! PLAGIARISM ISSUES (read please)

 

Hello there AFFers!

There has been a huge commotion in the blog section about plagiarism, and this time  "I'm His Substitute Girlfriend", by lovelyme23, was plagiarized. Apparently, some immature wanna-be stole the story, there were no credits whatsoever, just a one-line description claiming it to be her "FIRST ENGLISH STORY". 

Comments were sent to the girl, asking her rather nicely (something I didn't expect) to take the story down before things get messy. I sent a comment too, because that is probably the sole reason why I have a wattpad account; just to tell people not to steal others' effort. 

Later this day, the story was deleted by the thief's friend or I don't know wo, because I think there were two people involved, I don't quite understand the whole ordeal, so here's a post about everything:

This has completely gotten out of hands as more stories are being copied over on wattpad without taking the authors permission, even translations and things like that. writing online has proven to be no longer safe as plagiarism issues are more frequently heard of than before, it's frustrating and it kills that vibe and zeal the authors have, like what's the point of having a new idea to write about if you're fearing that someone else might steal it at any given moment?!

Honestly, If you like a story so much, say so in a comment, ask permission for posting in another website, and if the original writer refuses, then don't go steal it and claim it as yours. If you can't write, don't make a fool of yourself by such immature actions that will bring only a massive number of people hating on you and bashing you.

There's the tag 'authorsunite' , you can make a blogpost with that tag to spread awareness (I feel like it's a disease we're talking about lmao)

Sometimes, I don't even feel like writing a story because of plagiarism such as this. It's really stupid of them because honestly the author put so much effort into writing the story and they have the guts to just copy and not give any credits. I personally think asking the author if you could possibly use a similar story-line to their's first is MUCH better.

It's really sad how those people really underestimate all the author's hardworking. Writing a story is not easy as it looks and they easily copy it, too bad, it's seriously too bad T^T

Wattpad has a report content link/button.
I make it hard for them to copy any of my stories by disabling text selection and using the members-only option. If any of my stories gets plagiarized, it would mean that the thief has an AFF account and knows about codes. But anyway, there are people here who steal plots and ideas not just the words. Sure, one could argue that my story may not be original, but if that person took the plot idea (the basic premise) from my story then I believe my name and my story should be somewhere in her foreword. If she merely changed the character names and location, some dialogues, but the conflict and the storyline are taken from my story, heh, I will report her.

That is horrible. I'm sorry you had to go through that. People are really terrible and will steal EVERYTHING. I hope they stay away from your work now and I can only hope they have learned their lesson.

www.creativecommons.org is a site that helps you put a claim on your works. It is FREE and can give you a leg to stand on in a plaigairism claim. Please pass it on!!
