The Ten Commandments of Lovesickness

Farewell To Love

Park Sooyoung opened the door to her cousin’s room to find her lying motionless in bed.

“Yerim?” Her voice full of concern as she peered down at the girl who was starring aimlessly into nothingness.

Making a spot for herself beside Yerim, she placed the back of her hand on the younger girl’s forehead, “you don’t seem to be running a fever.”

“Uncle and Auntie said you were sick. You look fine to me,” she stated, confused as to why her uncle and aunt had called her over.

“Unnie,” Yerim finally spoke and it startled Sooyoung, because as soon as her name was said the girl started crying.

“Yerim, what’s the matter? Are you hurting anywhere?” She pulled the crying girl into her arms.

“My heart hurts unnie,” Yerim said as she pointed to her chest. “It hurts a lot.”

Sooyoung finally understood what sickness Yerim was experiencing. It was no stomachache, no fever, just lovesickness. There was no cure, nothing Sooyoung could do to ease the pain of a broken heart.

“What can I do unnie?”

“I’ve tried not to love him, but I just can’t.”

The older girl thought back to her own lovesickness, “I don’t really knowYerim, but perhaps the Ten Commandments of Lovesickness may be of help.”

“The Ten Commandments of Lovesickness?”

Sooyoung nodded.

-♥-

"First, it is best not to meet, so we cannot fall in love."

“Choi Junhong?” Junhong heard a voice asked before stopping in his tracks. It was the first day of school, how did someone already know his name?

Turning around he was greeted with brightest smile he had ever seen.

“You dropped your id.” The smiling girl said as she held what seemed to be an id card in her outstretched hand.

Fumbling around, Junhong checked his back pocket, only to find the id he had stuff in there earlier that morning gone.

“Ah thank you,” he ran to where she was standing and a light scent of lavender hit his nose.

“You should probably keep it in a safer place,” she recommended with a rather teasing smile as she handed his id card back to him.

“Well, I’ll see you around,” she said before walking away unaware of his beating heart.

"Secondly, it is best not to know each other, so that we may not be infatuated with each other."

Junhong followed a rather excited Jongup as they walked through a swarm of students, all eagerly as excited as his older, but shorter friend, into a dimly lit arena. The first party of the school year and Jongup had blackmailed Junhong into being his plus one.

Giving up in his search for Jongup, separated after going through another crowd of students, he resorted to leaning against a wall in hopes that his idiotic friend and unfortunately roommate would magically appear before him.

It wasn’t long before his solitude against the wall was interrupted, when a pair of warm hands grasped his cheeks and he came face to face with the girl he had met on the first day of school. Her eyes opened wide as if she was studying his face.

“Ah-ha! I knew it was you!” The girl said, her voice higher than he remembered and Junhong wasn’t a hundred percent sure, but he thought he could smell the slightest hint of alcohol on her breath.

“Oh my gosh! There she is,” a voice shouted as three girls came running towards them.

“I’m so sorry. Our friend is kind of drunk,” one of them said as she pulled the girl’s hands off of his cheeks.

“Yah! I’m not drunk!” She shouted.

“Seulgi, this is all your fault. Why did you give this idiot your cup?” The same girl who spoke first asked as she struggled to keep the drunk girl’s hands from coming back to his cheeks.

“I needed to use the restroom. How was I supposed to know she was going to drink it?” The girl, Seulgi, answered.

“I was thirsty unnies!”

“This idiot thought it was water. That’s it, we’re never taking her to anymore parties,” the third girl said as she helped pulled the drunk girl away from him.

“Wait unnies! I know him. He’s Choi Junhong!” The drunk girl said as she tried to free herself from the grasps of her unnies.

“Yah, Park Sooyoung. Stop with your nonsense. We’re going home now!” They shouted, not letting her go.

“Do you know her?” Jongup asked the moment they exited from the room as if he had witness the whole thing.

Junhong shook his head, but Park Sooyoung had managed to make his heart beat fast for the second time and he couldn't wait to see her again.

"Thirdly, it is best not to accompany each other, so that we would not owe each other."

Hands in his pocket and headphones plugged in, Junhong didn’t hear the struggling of a girl, carrying a box too big for her, walking behind him. Moments later and a dull pain was felt on his back followed by the sound of the box hitting the ground.

“Omo! I’m so sorry,” he heard when he pulled out the headphones and turned to see none other than the girl Park Sooyoung.

“Oh, Junhong!” She exclaimed when she finally looked up and saw him.

Noticing his gaze on the box that was currently still on the floor, she smiled at him “it’s for the festival. The music club got a booth and they made me come back for the decorations.”

He nodded before picking up the box. Why on earth did they send a girl to carry such a heavy box?

“Which way to the festival?”

“It’s okay Junhong, I can carry it,” she said as she tried to take the box away from him, but he skillfully dodged her hands. A few more attempts and she finally gave up, “alright you win.”

It didn’t take long before they reached the destination of the festival and the box quickly disappeared from his hands as other members of the music club came to take it.

“Thanks a lot Junhong, I owe you one!” She said happily before skipping off to help with the decorations, leaving Junhong to think that he was definitely going to hold her to it.

"Fourthly, it is best not to be pitiful, so that we may not think of each other."

He hadn’t meant to walk in on her crying. How was he to know she’d be crouch up against the wall with her head down against her knees? He didn’t know she was crying at first, thinking perhaps she was taking a nap, but his theory was wrong when he heard the muffling of crying.

It wasn’t long before she lifted her head up from her knees and he saw her face, tears still trickling down her cheeks as she stared wide eyed at him.

Not knowing what else to do, he quickly closed the door after saying sorry. He should have left then, but he couldn’t. Not after seeing her tear stained face, not after hearing her light cry, it was all too much for him so he opted instead to stand in front of the door.

Seconds later, she emerged from the door, shock written on her face when she saw him there. A brief “are you alright” and “yes” was exchanged before he was staring at her back.

Now back at his dorm and lying in bed, the image of Sooyoung crying wouldn’t leave his mind.

"Fifth, it is best not to love, so that we may not abandon each other."

“Yah, are you listening to me?” Her tone had changed from her honey, sweet voice to an annoyed tone.

“Hmm..what did you say?”

“I knew you weren’t listening to me,” she said angrily as she undid her fingers from his and angrily stomped ahead of him.

A chuckle escaped from his lips as he ran to catch up with his girlfriend.

“Yah, Park Sooyoung!” Grabbing her by her shoulders, he turned her and pulled her into a hug.

He felt her struggling beneath him as she attempted to free herself from his grip, but it only caused him to tighten his arms around her. After a while, he finally felt her arms snake around his back, reciprocating the hug.

“Don’t think you’re off the hook,” he heard her say and he pulled his face from her shoulder, feigning a confused face.

“I’m still mad at you for not listening to me,” but he knew from her sweet, honey voice and eye smile that she wasn’t really mad, besides he knew her weakness was his embraces and kisses. A cheeky grin appeared on his face, and it was her turn to give him a confused look.

Placing a quick peck on her lips, broke the hug and sprinted ahead towards their destination.

“Yah, you’re lucky I love you!” He heard her shout after him, but even as he ran with his heart beating from her love, Junhong was afraid. Afraid he would wake up one day and find himself abandoned.

"Sixth, it is best not to be opposite each other, so that we may not meet each other."

“Don’t worry. I won’t forget my interview,” Junhong answered, slightly annoyed at the older man’s continuous nagging. He was no longer a child and perfectly capable of taking care of himself, unless it was Sooyoung was taking care of him, then he wouldn’t mind being a child sometimes.

“I know it’s important.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to be there one hour earlier then the schedule time. Wait, I have an even better idea, why don’t I go there tonight and camp out?” Sooyoung was getting out of work soon and he had wanted to surprise her by waiting for her.

“Alright Yongguk. Hey, I got to go now. Bye. See you tomorrow!” Hanging up, he rushed his desired destination just in time to see Sooyoung opening the door from the bakery on the opposite side of the road he was standing on.

It didn’t take long for her to notice him as she waved excitedly at him, waiting for him to cross the street.

"Seventh, it is best to misunderstand, so that we may not betray each other."

“Taehyung’s just a friend,” she defended herself and as much as Junhong wanted to believe her, he couldn’t. Not when he had saw for himself how she had loving smiled at the other man.

“We were working on a project at the library and Taehyung decided to walk me back to the dorm because it was late.”

It was the same story she had used last time as well. Just how many projects did they have and why was she always partnered with Kim Taehyung?

What was so special about him anyway? Was she attracted to his deep voice? His satoori? Maybe Sooyoung was attracted to his shorter height, perhaps she had grown tired of always having to look up at him.

“Choi Junhong!” Her voice becoming unstable as her eyes glistened with tears.

Silence. Junhong didn’t say anything. Didn’t do anything. Didn’t wipe away the tears, didn’t embrace her, and didn’t kiss her like he always did whenever she was upset.

“Junhong,” she tried one last time, her voice barely a whisper.

With nothing left to say, she walked away from him clearly disappointed that he had not believe her words….but he did. Running to her, he wrapped his arms around her waist.

“I’m sorry,” he muttered as he burrowed his face in her neck. It was after all, just a misunderstanding and he Sooyoung would never betray him.

"Eight, it is best not to wish, so that we may not continue on with each other."

“Wahh!” He heard her squealed as her hands pointed up at the dark sky before quickly closing her eyes. The couple had decided to go star gazing and in the midst of talking a shooting star suddenly flashed across the sky.

After a few seconds, Junhong broke the silence, “what did you wish for?”

Opening her eyes, the girl scoffed at him, “I’m not telling you. If I do, it won’t come true.”

“Aw come on Sooyoung, please tell me?” A smile appeared on the girl’s lips, a whining Junhong always had that effect on her.

“I’ll only tell you if you tell me what you wished for.”

Junhong didn’t hesitant to answer. “I wished for us to always be together forever,” he said as he s his arm underneath her head in an effort to make her more comfortable.

The smile on her face widened, “that was my wish too.”

"Ninth, it is best no to depend on each other, so that we may not embrace."

Junhong emptied the contents of his book bag out on his desk in an attempt to find his paper. The paper he had spent weeks on. The paper that counted for fifty percent of his grade.

“Where could it be?” He wondered out loud, hands searching the now empty bag in a desperate attempt to find it.

“I’m so screwed,” he groaned and as he placed his head on the crowded desk his mind flashed back to the desk in his room. He must’ve have left it on his desk. What an idiot he was. Glancing at his watch he sighed in defeat. He would never make it back in time….but he knew of someone who would.

Standing by the door to his classroom, he watched as a panting Sooyoung emerged from the corridor. She barely had the chance to catch her breath before he wrapped his long arms around her.

“Yah,” she shouted as she pried herself from his hug, “class is going to start any second now, here’s your paper. You’re so lucky my class was cancelled this morning,” she said as she handed him the paper before pushing him back into the classroom.

Turning back to look at the girl, Junhong couldn’t help but smile. He knew he could always depend on her.

"Tenth, it is best not to meet, so that we may not be together."

“Let’s break up.”

He thought he had misheard her, but her face remained emotionless.

“You’re joking right?”

“I’m serious Junhong. I’m breaking up with you.” Junhong was speechless. Where did this come from? He had noticed her acting a little different lately, but she had assured him it was nothing more than stress.

“I don’t understand.”

“There’s nothing to understand Junhong. Me, you, us, we just won’t work out.”

“We can make it work.” He had to keep trying. Sooyoung meant the world to him and there was no way he was giving up so easily.

“No. It won’t work,” her cold exterior broken as her eyes soften.

“I’m sorry Junhong. This is goodbye.” Grasping onto her wrist he held on to her, “at least tell me why.”

He watched as she took a deep breath, “I’m getting married.”

-

“Junhong?” Turning around she saw Seungwan and Seulgi, Sooyoung’s housemates.

“What are you doing here?” They asked, eyes full of concern. He probably looked like a mess, not being able to sleep for the past few days.

“I need to see Sooyoung, but she won’t meet me.”

“Junhong, you need to move on the two of you can’t be together.” He knew Seungwan was right, but how could he?

“Sooyoung wouldn’t want to see you like this.” Seulgi said as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

“Go home and get some rest.” She said before Seungwan and her entered the building.

"But since we met, we must befriend each other, how can a meeting cause us to miss each other?"

“Junhong,” he heard his name called and turned to see his coworker. A banquet was being held for the employers of the company and Daehyun had told him it would do him good to meet new people.

“Sungjae,” he greeted the equally tall man.

“Junhong. Sungjae,” turning towards the voice, he saw another coworker walking towards them with two glass of wine.

“Jimin,” they both greeted as he handed them the wine.

“Hey congrats on getting married,” Jimin said and Junhong shot Sungjae a look.

“It’s true, got married two weeks ago,” Sungjae smiled and Junhong suddenly felt envious.

“So is the wife here?” Jimin asked looking around.

“Of course. Ah, here she comes now.”

“Sooyoungie,” Sungjae said and Junhong’s heart drop for entering the embrace of Sungjae was none other than Park Sooyoung.

He could tell that she was equally surprised by the appearance of him, he could tell from the way her eyes nervously looked at him.

“Jimin, Junhong, meet my lovely wife Sooyoung.”

How he missed her.

"Why should we be sorrowful or angry, whether we meet or not?”

“They make a cute couple don’t they?” Junhong turned to look at his side, Jimin motioned towards the dance floor where Sungjae was currently twirling Sooyoung.

He could only nod his head, mind wondering if Jimin would had said the same if it had been him instead of Sungjae out there making Sooyoung smile.

Glancing at his watch he sighed, it was getting late. Excusing himself, Junhong headed towards the exit but stopped just a few feet away to take one last look at Sooyoung.

A small smile found its way on his lips, all the sorrow and anger he had been holding in slowly disappearing for seeing Sooyoung happy was enough for him.

♥♥♥♥♥

Since I wrote one for VJoy, I just had to write one for Joylo and so ta-da!

I hope the format of the story wasn't confusing. It starts out from Sooyoung's perspective, but when it actually gets to the commandments, Junhong's perspective takes over since he's the one who really sufferred from Lovesickness. And who's the boy that broke bb Yeri's heart?

Again, comment and subscribe! I probably won't write anymore one shots for this collection for a while, since it's my goal to finish my other stories first.

One more thing, is Sungjoy ship sailing for you guys yet? Cause my Sungjoy ship is sailing pretty hard right now, but I knew it was going to happen...lol.

Last thing, I promise, the inspiration of the story is from this MV of Bu Bu Jing Xin, well the song more than the actuall mv. I don't know if the song was actually from the series, but it matched very well and totally breaks my heart. I don't speak the language so I relied on the english translation, which were the ten commandments of lovesickness.
