The Factor

Remember the Rhododendrons

The morning Jieun woke up, she saw that Myungsoo and Taemin had gathered around Naeun, who was leaning against a rock. She had a bandage wrapped around her head, which was stained with blood. She looked dizzy and dazed, as if she wasn't exactly sure what was going on.

Jieun slowly got up, but stopped when Myungsoo and Taemin turned and caught sight of her. She bit her bottom lip, watching their expressions carefully. The next second, Myungsoo turned back to Naeun while Taemin still had his eyes on her.

"Don't you dare think about running away," Taemin said. He opened the palm of his hand, where a white flame flickered with excitement. "I will hurt you if you do."

Jieun nodded, but looked around. She saw Mino lying unconsciously on the floor. She checked the scarf, then gasped when she noticed that it had been burnt. She looked around, searching for something to cover it. She stopped again when she saw that Taemin was still watching her with his keen, narrow eyes.

It'd be better if I leave Mino alone, she thought. If I try to find something to cover the mark, Taemin might want to see it.

She got up and walked over to the three. "What's going on?"

"Naeun has no recollections of what happened before she got here," Myungsoo told her. He had a pained expression on his face. "I think she was attacked."

"Or she could've hit the rocks in the river," Taemin added.

"No, no rocks. That river was clean and only had sand on the bottom," Myungsoo said. He bent down and cupped her hands. "Come on, Naeun. Think. What got you into this bloody mess? Did someone attack you?"

"It's seriously bloody," Taemin muttered. "Your bandage is soaking with blood, and we thought we stopped it."

"I don't know, I don't know!" Naeun exclaimed, putting her hands on her forehead. "It's just cold and scary! That's all I remember, okay? I just remember that it's my fault!"

Myungsoo stared at Naeun. "What do you mean by 'it's your fault'?"

"It's exactly what I mean. All these wounds and everything—it's my fault."

"No, it's Jieun's fault!" Myungsoo exclaimed.

"My fault? How is this my fault?" Jieun asked, widening her eyes.

"She's right, Myungsoo. Now you're just blaming random people here and there," Taemin said.

"Maybe Naeun was in the middle of healing until Jieun brought her here," Myungsoo said. He stared at Jieun. "Actually, this is a great time for you to talk about your powers."

Jieun turned white. "Didn't we agree to talk during breakfast…?"

"I—"

"Enough, Myungsoo," Taemin said, putting his hand out in front of him. "We made a deal. Let's keep it." He turned to Jieun. "I'll go find something to eat. Do you want to come with me or stay here?"

Jieun stared at Myungsoo, who was glaring at her. She sighed, knowing that she didn't have much of a choice. Taemin was being nice to her by inviting her out to hunting. If she refused him, then she would have to deal with Myungsoo, who was in no state to listen to her words. She only nodded at Taemin and followed him into the colorful forest.

As the two walked deeper into the woods, Jieun couldn't help but realize how peaceful it was. The golden branches and emerald leave stood tall and straight, while unknown wide-eyed creatures scurried across the woods. These creatures didn't seem afraid of them, though. Rather, they seemed calm, as if they figured that the group wouldn't shed blood and hunt them.

"I can't figure out if we should kill these things or if we should walk around some more to find crops," Taemin muttered. He picked an emerald from the tree. "I'll keep some of these just in case. This might be exchanged for something valuable when we go back." He turned to Jieun. "You might as well find something useful here and grab it. Who knows, we might abandon you later and you might be all alone."

Jieun's expression became sour. "So you're planning to abandon me?"

"Well, we'll listen to your story, and then figure out what we want to do with you," he said.

"What about Mino?" she asked him.

"It'll be up to him. If he wants to stick with you and die, that's his decision."

"You're making it sound like we're the most incapable duo."

"Aren't you guys the most incapable duo?" he asked her, raising an eyebrow. "If you find a pair more useless than you two, then I'll take my words back."

"Well, I won't mind staying here a bit longer. It's certainly better than the previous dump," she muttered. She stopped, then widened her eyes. "Oh shoot."

"What?" he asked, turning around.

"I did it," she whispered.

"Did what?"

"I brought you guys into this world. I did it," she said, turning pale.

"Well, I think we figured that out a long time ago. Myungsoo and I can't move our bodies like this, so it makes sense that you're the one who's responsible for all this."

"No, but I know how I did it. At least, I think I know how," she mumbled softly.

"So do you know how to get back?"

Jieun let out a sheepish laugh. "Um, that I'll have to get back on you guys…"

There was a bitter atmosphere after Jieun and Taemin came back with nothing to eat. Myungsoo had his eyes on Naeun, and he would only talk to Taemin. Every time Jieun tried to talk to him, he'd ignore her or shoot her a glare. It was that moment where Jieun thought that she should attempt to get on Myungsoo's good side. After all, he still thought that Naeun was injured because of Jieun.

A few moments later, Mino woke up and groaned. Jieun was about to reach over to cover his curse, but he instinctively covered it up with his hands. He slowly sat up, in pain.

"Water," he said in a hoarse voice, reaching out for anybody.

"I got nothing on me," Taemin said, patting his bag. "Myungsoo?"

Myungsoo glanced behind his shoulders. "I have water, but it's reserved for Naeun."

"Give it to him," Naeun told him.

"No," he said. "You're important than him."

"Idiot. I can live without water right now. That guy might die from dehydration," Naeun snapped, glaring at Myungsoo. "Stop acting like a child."

"But—"

"Please," Mino whispered, his voice barely audible. "Please… Water…"

Myungsoo clenched his teeth and tossed him the remaining water in the water bottle. "Just drink it."

"Thank you," Jieun murmured.

"I don't want to hear that from you," Myungsoo stated.

"Alright, enough, Myungsoo," Taemin said, clapping his hands together. "Jieun, we got no breakfast, but are you willing to talk?"

Jieun slowly nodded her head. Mino looked at her after he finished the bottle of water.

"What? What did I miss?" he asked. He tried to move, but he flinched and groaned as he continued to cover his neck. "Damn it…"

"Mino should have some recollections of what happened," Naeun murmured. She looked at him. "Do you remember anything that happened to us? I just remember that it was my fault."

"Huh? What?" Mino blinked his eyes. When he tried to recall his memories, a cold shudder crawled down his spine. He shivered and quickly shook his head. "No, I don't remember a thing."

"But we were attacked, right?" Naeun asked. She met Mino's eyes, then stiffened. Her brown orbs shifted to black for a second, but she didn't notice anything different about herself. She looked away from Mino's gaze, returning her eyes back to its soft brown color. "At least, I think we were attacked? I might've provoked something that caused it to attack…?"

"Enough," Taemin said. He took a seat next to Jieun. "Jieun, tell us about your power."

"Yeah," Myungsoo said, nodding his head. "Tell us about this power of yours."

"Okay, I will," she said. She took a deep breath, then folded her hands together. She rubbed her wrist, where the bracelet should've been. "Taemin, remember the time that we were at prison and how we found out that I had two gems?" He nodded. "Well, one of the gems contained the power called 'Galaxial Wish.'"

The three froze and paled. They stared at Jieun for a long time, unable to say a word. Their wide eyes seemed to show that they understood the full concept of her powers. Jieun pressed her lips together, wondering if she should continue.

"Why… Why didn't they kill you?" Taemin asked. "Why aren't you dead? If you have any kind of galaxy powers, then you should be dead!"

"They spared my life because I didn't know how to control it. They did mention something about how my powers depend on the situation and how much I really want the wish to come true," Jieun explained. "The bracelet was given to me to restrain my powers, but we kind of took it off…"

"Well, you should've said something about how it was there to restrain your powers! I only knew that it was going to kill you! I didn't think that it was some kind of god power!" Taemin exclaimed. He got up on his feet and paced back and forth, running his fingers through his hair while his other hand stayed on his hip. "Oh damn, oh damn… This isn't good. This is so not good."

"Can't she just wish us to be off the Blacklist?" Myungsoo asked. "She can do that, right?"

"Hell no! Of course she can't do that! She just said that she doesn't know how to control her freaking powers!" Naeun exclaimed. "You two are so screwed if the Council finds out that you broke the bracelet."

"Never mind that! We've got someone with rare powers in our team! What do we do with her? Surely when word spreads about this, people are going to hunt her down," pointed out Taemin.

"I-Is my power that bad?" Jieun stuttered.

"No, it's amazing. It's great. It's just that…" Naeun let out a shaky sigh. "Galaxy powers are difficult to handle. They can go against people or help people. They can ask for the whole world to end, and that might happen."

Jieun paled. "I would never wish for something like that. All I want to do is go home—"

"Then wish your way home!" Myungsoo exclaimed. "You can at least do that, right?"

Jieun bit her bottom lip. "I-I don't really know how this really works."

"What did you do to wish us here?" Taemin inquired. "What did you wish to bring Naeun and Mino here?"

"Um… For the first one, I just really wanted to get out of the Vampire Realm because I thought that I was going to die. For the second one, I wished that Mino and Naeun could see Taemin's flames."

"Why would you wish for the second one?" Myungsoo asked her.

Jieun turned slightly pink. "I thought that his flames were very beautiful under the water. It was a beautiful shade of white…"

Naeun scoffed, then looked at Taemin. Her eyes slightly widened when she noticed Taemin's ears turn red. She blinked her eyes multiple times, trying to clear her vision. Was she just seeing things, or was Taemin embarrassed over what Jieun said?

"So the first one was from fear, and the second one was from awe," Myungsoo muttered. He rubbed his chin, then pointed at the empty space in front of them. "Can you wish for breakfast?"

"I don't think she can wish for anything she wants," Taemin said.

"You're right. We can't have her wish from awe, so fear is our only option," Myungsoo said. He got up, then took out a sharp knife from his bag. "If I threaten her with this, then will she wish for breakfast?"

Jieun gasped and scurried backwards, while Taemin protectively put his arm in front of her. He narrowed his eyes at Myungsoo, who glared at him back.

"Myungsoo, we're not trying to force her to make the wishes," Taemin said. "Don't you know the story of how people would torture people with galaxy powers in order to grant their own selfish wishes? That's why the entire population was slaughtered."

"There's got to be some survivors," Myungsoo said. "I'm sure she's one."

"I-I-I told you, I came from a completely different world with Mino!" Jieun exclaimed, trying to defend herself.

Myungsoo eyed on Mino. "Maybe that guy has a galaxy power. If I threaten him, will he show his true powers?"

Jieun widened her eyes. "You can't! You can't do that!"

"Why not? I got a knife. If I slice his neck a little, I'm sure he'll freak out—"

"Myungsoo, stop it," Taemin said. "Let's not do something like that until we're sure that Mino has god powers."

Myungsoo stared at him, then groaned. "Well, what now? I'm starving, and the only way we get back is to have Jieun wish us out of this dimension." He pouted and looked at Jieun. "Is there any other factor that caused your wishes to come true?"

Jieun thought long and hard about what he said. She stared at the ground, trying to remember if there was something else that helped enhance her powers. She gasped and snapped her fingers.

"If I remember correctly," she said, "my heart was racing for every wish I made. Whether it was from fear or from awe, my heart kept beating."

"Great! Go run some laps!" Naeun exclaimed, pointing at the forest.

"Actually," Mino said, dragging himself over to Jieun's side. "We don't need her to run."

"What do you propose, then?" Taemin asked. He frowned a bit, not liking how Mino kept coming closer to Jieun.

"We just need to excite your heart, right?" Mino asked Jieun. She nodded her head. "Alright then…" He looked straight into her eyes. "Put your hand on my neck." She reached for his neck slowly. "No, the other one. Where 'it' is."

She quickly understood that he meant the curse mark. She reached for it and covered it with her hand. Her hand began to burn, and she was feeling an unbearable amount of heat excreting from his mark. Her heart raced and she yelped loudly, withdrawing her hand from his scorching neck.

"OW—"

"Repeat after me: 'I wish that we can go to the Vampire Realm'!"

"I wish that we can go to the Empire Realm?" Jieun repeated, half-confused and half-scared over her burning hand. It felt like it was on fire, but in another way, it felt like something was eating up her skin. She hissed at the pain, staring at her reddened hand. However, from her hand, there was a golden dust that came out. She screamed, terrified over the fact that something was coming out of her hand.

The dust floated up in the air, but stopped when it reached a certain point of height. It started to form a sphere around them, showering the five with the gold dusk. In a blink of an eye, a spark of light appeared and blinded the group. The brilliant light began to the five inside, and quickly disappeared with the five, leaving the jeweled dimension.

So---I actually got to the point after reading Mythos that I wanted to read all your other stories and started them, even if it wasn't a ship that I liked in particular. BUT!!! I really have nothing but praise for this story. Everything that was written her was perfectly done, even if at times I admit I did want to skip a few chapters (ALRIGHT I SKIPPED 2 CHAPTERS ONLY TWO). Even if you said this was a poorly written plotline, it had an IMMENSE amount of potential, and it hooked me from the beginning right to the very end.

If only I could write lengthy stories like that xD I have the tendency to write good short stories, but fail when it comes to plotting of the long long ones xD

Chapter 59: Aw taemin, my heart aches so much for him. Both him and jieun will be lonely again tho. Mino for sure won't remember his friendship with jieun and jieun will return back to her lonely life. Taemin created the worl because he's lonely but in the end, he will forever be lonely again. Ah this is sad. Anyway, good luck for your new fanfic.... I'm so gonna read that.
