My Favourite

"Ya, Kibum, do you ever do anything OTHER than write fanfiction?!" Woohyun exclaimed, having waltzed unannounced into Kibum's room and looking over his shoulder before he had time to minimise the tab.

"That's none of your business, especially considering the fact that you've most likely only come in here to complain about your tutor, again." Kibum retorted, whacking his friend over the back of the head. Woohyun scowled.

"You don't know that! I just came in here to annoy you!"

Kibum crossed his arms, "well, mission accomplished so you can now leave."

Woohyun groaned, "ugh, but he truly is so annoying! I can't stand him!"

Kibum simply rolled his eyes, not even remotely surprised that he was right. Woohyun would not stop complaining about this 'Sunggyu' guy who was tutoring him and Kibum no longer expected Woohyun to talk about much else; he was just waiting for the day when they realised they both were actually attracted to each other (because they obviously were) and then Woohyun would finally shut up.

Or just be more annoying, more likely.

Rather than wasting his time responding to the brown haired male's complaints, Kibum simply turned back to his computer and continued typing from where he'd left off; he'd been in the middle of a good bit.

"You're not even listening to me, are you?!" Woohyun whined, pouting at the rainbow haired man.

"Nope." Kibum replied simply, not looking away from the screen. Woohyun sensed he wouldn't win this fight and sighed, watching him type.

It was silent for a while and Kibum thought maybe Woohyun would leave without another word but he was soon proved wrong.

"Are you writing another chapter for 'Hot Shorty Next Door'? You update that so much, I can barely keep up!"

"Then don't read it" Kibum retorted; he truly wished Woohyun had never found out about his fanfiction, the man read everything he wrote and he found it mildly uncomfortabe and annoying. Not that telling Woohyun that would stop him.

"But it's so fun reading your fantasies about the guy down the hall!" Woohyun grinned at Kibum's shocked expression.

"My what about who?!" His voice squeaked a little, only adding to Woohyun's delight.

"ha, you're so obvious!"

Kibum raised his fist at the stupid brunet who ducked but continued to grin. "I'm not being obvious about anything because there's nothing to be obvious about!"

Woohyun laughed, "yeah, alright, except for your massive crush on the guy down the hall! Or should I say, the 'hot shorty next door'?"

Kibum threw his pillows at him, getting up to whack him until the older (only by months Kibum would point out) was on the floor, begging for mercy.

"Alright alright, enough enough!"

"Do you promise not to bring up Jonghyun again?"

"Yes I pro-" Woohyun stopped mid sentence, realising something. "Wait. You learnt his name?! This is a new development!! How did that happen?!"

Kibum rolled his eyes and threw the pillows back onto his bed. "Like hell I'm telling you."

"Awwww come on! I promise not to tease you!" Woohyun whined and Kibum laughed, "yeah right, that'll last 2 seconds."

Woohyun huffed, "you're no fun! You'd do the same to me if I had a love life!"

Kibum rolled his eyes yet again. He knew better than to point out to the older man that he did have a love life, if he would just open his eyes for a second and a half.

He would save his observations for after Woohyun had realised for himself that he liked his 'pain-in-the-' tutor and proceed to about how dense he was. That would be a bit of pay back.

"You're being a pain, go and call Sungyeol to whine or something." Kibum said, shooing the brunet out the door. Woohyun pouted but did as he was told.

Kibum and Woohyun were good friends; they'd met on a university open day when they were both in year 11 and had hit it off straight away. They'd been friends ever since and, as luck would have it, they'd both gotten into the same university. They were close and got along really well but that didn't mean that Kibum was going to put up with being teased all the time. His brunet friend could be a real sometimes.

He sighed, plonking back down in his desk chair and reading over what he'd written so far, trying to remember where he was at before his bratty friend had rudely interrupted.

So, maybe Woohyun was right. 'Hot Shorty Next Door' was based a little on Jonghyun who Kibum had a little bit of interest in.

Okay maybe more than a little.

Okay, so 'Hot Shorty Next Door' was literally Kibum's fantasies about Jonghyun; was that so wrong?!

It had all started in the very first week of Kibum starting university. It was technically the second week but the first week had been all orientation and fun stuff so Kibum excluded that; it was the first week of real univeristy.

Kibum had been in the university dorm for a bit over two weeks now but had mostly only seen fellow first years and Woohyun, who was a bit like a lost puppy that Kibum couldn't get rid of. (Now that they'd settled in a bit he'd become the disobiedent puppy that did what he wanted and wouldn't listen to anything he said.)

Eventually though, summer break had ended and uni officially started for all students so all the other students began to reappear. The dorms were still mostly first years but now there was actually the occasional older student, often offering future assistance or tutoring.

In that second week was when something that was as awful as it was amazing happened.

Kibum met Jonghyun.

But in the worst way possible.

At least in his opinion anyway.

Because dropping dirty laundry over possibly the hottest man he'd ever seen was pretty awful and pretty much something Kibum swore he'd never be able to recover from.

Kibum had been wearing headphones, his music up maybe a little louder than it should've been, and he had a big basket full of dirty washing. He hadn't done a load of washing since moving into the dorm (he owned a lot of clothes so it wasn't really an urgent matter to wash them) and so he'd accumulated quite a bit and had decided that it was time he finally sorted it out.

The laundry wasn't far from his room so he'd just piled everything in the basket and because of this it was kind of blocking his view a little but he figured he'd make it.

Kibum regretted all of this now.

About half way there he'd run into someone and the basket had fallen from his grip and tipped all over the other person. Kibum had watched in horror as all of his dirty laundry had fallen right over the other person and then his horror had increased tenfold when he saw the person.

He was gorgeous. He had white blonde hair, the sides shaved and the hair pushed over to one side. He was short but muscular which Kibum could tell because he was wearing a loose T-shirt and some sweat pants. Which somehow looked stunning on him.

Kibum suddenly felt self concious of his own appearance; his rainbow coloured hair disheleved and unstyled, hanging slightly over his eyes. He was wearing a hoodie and ripped jeans. He actually hadn't washed today.

He was never this dishelved looking; why did he decide to be lazy TODAY?!

Then he remembered the dirty laundry currently all over and around the incredibly hot male in front of him and his concerns about his appearance went out the window; his dirty laundry was much worse.

He pulled his headphones off hurriedly and began apologising to the other man.

"I'm so sorry, I should've been paying more attention to where I was going, I'm really sorry about this, I didn't real-"

Kibum had begun to pick up his washing as he apologised, unable to look the other man in the eyes. Because of this, he didn't realise that the other male had begun to help him collect his washing until their hands brushed.

Kibum looked up and their eyes met; he blushed and quickly looked away.

"Oh, you don't have to help don't worry I've got it!"

He heard a chuckle and couldn't help but look up. He was surprised to find the other male smiling at him.

"Don't be so apologetic, it's not an issue. You're a first year right? I dropped my washing in much worse places in my first year, don't worry."

Kibum couldn't help but smile at his reassurance and upon seeing this the other male smiled back.

Kibum looked away again; great, not only had he dumped his dirty laundry all over and extremely hot guy but also an extremely nice one. Why was life like this?!

They finished putting all of his washing back in his basket and Kibum bowed, thanking him for his help.

He smiled in response, "it's okay, here let me help you carry it to the laundry."

Kibum had tried to object but the shorter male grabbed one side of the basket anyway and began to walk towards the laundry.

They walked in silence, Kibum not sure what to say and not able to gather the courage to say anything he thought of anyway.

Just before they reached the laundry, Woohyun appeared from nowhere (which seemed to happen a lot), announcing his presence by running up and hugging Kibum.

"What the- get off me Woohyun!" Kibum tried to shove the older off with one arm (the other holding the washing basket) but to no avail.

"Nooooooo, I missed you!" Woohyun whined, making Kibum gag at the cheesiness of that line.

"I saw you like an hour ago, stop being disgusting and get off me!"

Just then Woohyun spotted the guy holding the other side of the basket and let go of his rainbow haired friend. Kibum thought he must've gotten the hint to go away but to his dismay Woohyun reached out and grabbed the other side of the basket, smiling at the guy.

"Hey, I can take that for you if you want."

The incredibly hot and nice guy gave Woohyun an awkward smile and relinquished his grip on the basket. He then gave Kibum a small smile and wave as he walked off.

Kibum watched him walk away in utter horror. The moment he disappeared from view Kibum his idiotic friend, livid with him.

"Why, why, WHY are you so dumb?!" He shoved the basket into Woohyun.

Woohyun doubled over on impact, "w-what?!"

"YOU JUST SENT AWAY THE MOST ATTRACTIVE MAN I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE ARE YOU ACTUALLY GAY-NO SCRATCH THAT; DO YOU ACTUALLY HAVE EYES HOW DID YOU NOT SEE THAT?!!"

Woohyun raised an eyebrow at that, still rubbing his stomach, "I didn't notice to be honest, I just thought you looked awkward and uncomfortable so I was trying to be NICE and save you from an awkward siituation."

Kibum sighed, "it WAS awkward but it would've been more useful for you to come up and be like 'oh hey Kibum, you normally look so much better than you do today, I still can't believe you're single, I'd date you if you weren't not into me, so sad, bye'."

Woohyun scoffed, "I would never date you."

Kibum shoved the basket into his stomach again, "I hate you."

That had been Kibum's first encounter with Jonghyun and he'd expected it to be his last.

But it turned out that Jonghyun lived in the same dorm as Kibum and not only that but on the same floor, only a few doors down from him.

He found this out in his second week coming back from a lecture one day, juggling all of his books and hurrying to make it back to his room before he dropped everything. He was only a few doors from his room when the door to the room he was passing opened and Jonghyun walked out and the two collided.

Of course.

Kibum's books went everywhere and he scrambled to pick them up, stopping when a familiar hand reached out to help.

"Why is it that I always seem to be making you drop things?" Jonghyun smiled as Kibum looked up, his fears confirmed.

And also his dreams.

Kibum smiled back and shook his head, "no idea, you must just have terrible luck."

Jonghyun laughed as he handed him back his books, "maybe, or maybe I have very good luck."

The two stood back up, Kibum's arms filled with his books again but he hardly noticed them now, trying to work out what the other man had meant by what he'd said.

When Kibum didn't respond, Jonghyun seemed to think he'd done something wrong and he ducked his head, "sorry, anyway, hopefully I won’t make you drop things again." And with that he hurried off.

Kibum had stood there for a while, not sure what had just happened. It wasn't until one of his folders started to slip from his grip that he snapped out of it and rushed to his room.

But he couldn't stop thinking about the encounter and nothing helped settle his mind.

So, he decided to start a new fanfiction, using his favourite band for characters but basing the whole story off his two encounters with the guy that he now knew lived only a few doors down from him (but he still didn't know the name of).

And so 'Hot Shorty Next Door' was born.

For three days Kibum had a secret and peaceful way to get all his thoughts about the incredibly attractive guy only a few doors away out of his head without anyone knowing.

Then he let Woohyun borrow his computer for a minute without checking what tabs he had open. His friend was the most nosey person he knew, honestly.

But, being Woohyun, his friend of many years, he knew that although the brunette would incessantly, he wouldn't tell anyone so Kibum continued to use it to document his encounters with the guy he was slowly developing a serious crush on.

It was now week 5 and he had bumped into Jonghyun a total of six times since he'd started the story, the most recent being earlier that day, when he'd finally learnt his name.

They always seemed to be going opposite ways and would either literally run into each other or at least pass right by each other, exchanging a short interaction which either involved Jonghyun helping him pick up whatever it was he'd dropped and making conversation about it or just a quick hello as they passed each other.

But today had been different.

Kibum had been heading back to his room, having just gone out to buy a few snacks for whilst he studied, when he heard a voice call out to him.

"Hey, um, you with the rainbow hair!"

Kibum had recognised the voice straight away but he still hadn't really expected it to be his crush calling him. So when he turned around to find the man his daydreams were about, standing in the hallway with his hand awkwardly raised from trying to get his attention, his heart stopped a bit.

"You mean me?" Kibum asked uncertainly, pointing to himself.

Jonghyun rubbed the back of his head awakwardly, "yeah, I meant you. Sorry, I just ... I don't actually know your name even though I see you fairly often so I just wanted to ask..."

Kibum could only blankly stare at him, still shocked that the other had made conversation with him without them running into eachother.

"Oh, I'm Kim Jonghyun by the way." Jonghyun said, misinterpreting Kibum's silence.

Kibum was finally snapped out of his trance by this new information, "oh! I'm Kim Kibum!"

At least Jonghyun smiled, "nice to finally know your name Kibum!"

"Likewise" Kibum smiled back.

"Well, I'll let you go, you've probably got assignments and reading up to your ears at the moment I'm sure."

Kibum nodded, "yeah, the workload has escalated a bit..."

"If you ever need any help with anything just let me know, okay?" Kibum nodded in response and Jonghyun smiled again.

"Alright, I'll let you go before I somehow make you drop everything like I always seem to," Jonghyun said jokingly and Kibum laughed and then waved as Jonghyun disappeared back into his room.

And Kibum had been replaying the whole event over and over in his head since it had happened.

Which also meant (of course) that he'd started a new chapter of 'Hot Shorty Next Door'.

He wasn't getting very far with it though, not only because of rude brown haired interruptions but also because he couldn't stop thinking about Jonghyun's offer.

"If you need help with anything just let me know"

He looked at his neglected music assignment. Maybe it was time to find out if Jonghyun even batted for the same team and further, if he was interested in Kibum or just friendly.

Kibum took a deep breath and got up out of his seat, moving quickly out of his room and to Jonghyun's before he could chicken out.

Jognhyun started when he opened the door, obviously not expecting it to have been Kibum knocking.

"Ah, sorry if I'm disturbing you Jonghyun but I actually needed help with my music assignment and um..." Kibum could hear how stiff and formal he sounded and it pained him. Damn it Kibum you know how to flirt stop being awkward it's not your style.

There was a moment of silence in which Kibum considered just turning around and going back to his room and never leaving again.

Then Jonghyun smiled, "oh, right, you want me to give you a hand?"

Kibum nodded, not trusting himself to speak anymore.

"Sure, I'll have a look at it, have you got it with you?"

Kibum blanched. In his rush to not chicken out, he'd forgotten to actually grab his music assignment.

Damn it.

Either the panic Kibum was feeling showed on his face or Jonghyun just noticed that he wasn’t carrying anything because before Kibum could think of an excuse or something witty to say, Jonghyun smiled.

“If it’s still in your room I can just come help you there. You’re only like two doors down right?”

Once again, Kibum decided nodding was his best option.

So that was how Kibum ended up with Jonghyun in his room, sitting on the edge of his bed, looking all gorgeous and… gorgeous as always.

And suddenly Kibum wasn’t so sure this was a good idea.

“Uhm I’ll go get us some tea quickly and be back. The assignment is open on my computer if you want to look but I’ll be right back.”

Kibum knew he must look and sound like an idiot but he needed like 2 minutes to reassess the situation.

Plus getting tea was hospitable right?

You’re an idiot Kibum. Breathe, you’re being so stupid. Get tea. Carry it back. Give it to him and BE NORMAL.

When his two mugs of tea were ready and he’d managed to make his hands stay steady for long enough to carry them back, Kibum took one last deep breath, told himself not to be stupid one more time and headed back to his room.

“Hey here’s your tea” Kibum hoped he sounded normal, extending his arm to give Jonghyun the tea whilst putting his own on the edge of the desk.

When Jonghyun didn’t respond Kibum turned to check he was still there.

He was just as he’d been when Kibum had left; sitting on the edge of his bed looking gorgeous, although now he had Kibum’s laptop on his lap and an expression on his face that Kibum couldn’t pin point.

Just as he was going to ask the older if he was okay, he seemed to recover himself, grabbing the tea from Kibum’s hand.

“Uh thanks,” he said, hurriedly taking a sip and then pulling a face as the liquid burnt his tongue.

“Oh uh it’s hot! Are you okay?”

Jonghyun didn’t seem to hear him though, his expression still kind of distant and strange.

“Jonghyun? Hello are you o-“

“Do you write Hot Shorty Next Door?” The sudden question made Kibum start and he could only blink at the older male for a minute, trying to work out how on earth-

Then he remembered his laptop. The one he’d told Jonghyun had the assignment open.

Which it didn’t because he’s printed out the assignment.

It had “Hot Shorty Next Door” open.

.

Kibum scrambled to grab his laptop and close it, putting it back on his desk as he hurried to explain himself.

“Oh sorry! I forgot I printed out the assignment, don’t mind that it’s just a stupid story I-“

“I… I’m subscribed to that story.”

Kibum froze midway through grabbing his assignment sheets.

What.

“Sorry, what?”

Jonghyun cleared his throat and shifted on the bed. “I… um I like that ship and I found that story and liked it so I subscribed to it.”

There was a moment of silence whilst both men tried to work out what to say. Kibum still had his back to Jonghyun but he could feel the older male staring at him.

Much to Kibum’s surprise, it was Jonghyun who broke the silence.

“Do you actually write it?”

That made Kibum turn around, confused by the older’s question.

“What do you mean?”

He regretted having turned around; with his back to him, Kibum could pretend this wasn’t really happening and he didn’t have to look into the older’s gorgeous brown eyes. Now he did though and he just wished the ground would swallow him up.

“It’s just that… I don’t know. It kind of makes sense I guess but like it just seems like such a strange coincidence.”

It kind of makes sense’

“What do you mean ‘it kind of makes sense’?!” Kibum exclaimed, with a little more aggression than he intended.

Jonghyun flushed and looked at the ground nervously.

“Oh… it’s just that… I kind of liked the story because it reminded me of you.”

Kibum was pretty sure his heart stopped. Was he actually saying what Kibum thought he was saying? Did this mean that maybe his crush wasn’t quiet as one sided as he originally thought? Did Jonghyun realise then tha-

“I wrote it about you.”

Hold on what.

Had he just.

Did he.

.

Jonghyun looked up at him when he said that but now Kibum looked away, not wanting to see the freaked out look he was sure the older was giving him and hoping that he’d just leave.

“Aren’t you dating that brown haired guy?”

Kibum let out a laugh, accidentally making eye contact with Jonghyun before quickly glancing away again.

“You mean Woohyun? Definitely not,” he responded, still scoffing slightly despite the nerves. What did this have to do with anything anyway?

He heard the bed creak and he felt Jonghyun step closer to him but Kibum still refused to look at him. He was still waiting for Jonghyun to leave; any normal person would be.

Then probably running for the hills.

But Jonghyun didn’t leave; instead he uttered words Kibum never expected him to.

“You know, this might sound strange, but I like you Kim Kibum.”

Kibum met Jonghyun’s eyes then and his breathing faltered. Jonghyun was close enough he would need to only lean up a little and their lips would meet. He was close enough that Kibum could smell him. That Kibum could see himself in his eyes and watch as he drowned in them. He was close enough that he could see Jonghyun in such detail and he was simultaneously filled with a rush of nerves and a surge of confidence.

And so, he told Jonghyun the truth.

“I like you too Kim Jonghyun.”

That was all it took for Jonghyun to lean up like Kibum thought of him doing only seconds before, and gently kissed the younger.

It was just a peck, a gentle press of the lips, but Kibum still couldn’t help the grin that spread across his face afterwards and neither could Jonghyun.

“Can’t believe I’ve become such an easy man; I only learnt your name today!” Kibum joked, finally getting his confidence back and pretending to be appalled by his actions.

Jonghyun laughed, “I guess I’d better take you out to dinner before anything else happens then?”

Kibum smiled, “yes, I think you’d better.”

“I knew you two liked each other. The only person who wasn’t aware was you. And maybe Sunggyu at the start but you were last to catch on, I’m afraid to say.” Kibum told Woohyun.

Woohyun gaped at him, “how could you POSSIBLY have known that?!”

Kibum rolled his eyes, “not everyone in the world is as dense as you.”

“Not everyone in the world is pretending to be dating Jonghyun,” Woohyun retorted.

Kibum rolled his eyes again; it had been 2 weeks since he and Jonghyun had started dating but Woohyun wouldn’t believe him. It was a strange story, he knew that, and on top of that, Woohyun had never seen them together, it just hadn’t happened yet. So, because of that, Woohyun had assumed that Kibum was just trying to trick him and refused to listen to what he said.

Kibum had told Jonghyun and the shorter male had smirked and said “I see.” Kibum wasn’t sure what that meant but Jonghyun had said nothing more, no matter how much Kibum pestered him.

“What actually happened though? You’ve just told me that he confessed but not how. Let’s see if you’ve got a more believable story tha-“ Kibum’s sassy retort was cut off by an unexpected force crashing into his side, nearly toppling him over if the force hadn’t also wrapped it’s strong arms around his waist, keeping him upright and enveloping him in a strong hug.

Kibum had been pretty certain he knew who his hugging attacker was but the shocked look on Woohyun’s face helped to confirm it.

“Kibummiiieeeee~ I missed you~”

Kibum laughed, wrapping his arms around Jonghyun in return. The older pressed his face into the side of his neck.

“Was this what you had planned,” Kibum said quietly to the older. He felt a smirk against his neck and he knew that Jonghyun was indeed imitating his brown haired friend.

He had such a good taste in men.

Woohyun made an awkward coughing noise and Kibum laughed.

“Sorry Woohyun, I forgot to introduce you to my fake boyfriend, Jonghyun.”

Woohyun shifted awkwardly on his feet, “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”

“Wait what was that?” Kibum asked, pretending to not have heard him.

Woohyun glared, “I said I’m sorry for calling you a liar!”

Kibum gasped and clutched his chest, “did you hear that Jonghyun?! Woohyun just apologised to me!”

Jonghyun laughed, unwrapping himself from around the younger male to finally turn to Woohyun.

“Sorry for teasing you, I’m Jonghyun. It’s nice to meet you, I’ve heard a lot.”

“Only bad stuff,” Kibum interjected before Woohyun could blow things out of proportion.

Woohyun ignored him, keeping his attention on Jonghyun, “Nice to meet you too, I’m Woohyun. Make friends with me and I can tell you all his high school dirt.”

To Kibum’s horror, Jonghyun smiled and put out his hand, Woohyun responding and shaking it. “I think we’ll make good friends.”

Well, you can’t have everything perfect.

This has taken like 34 years to write and it's not that great and I haven't proof read it but IT'S DONE.

It took me ages because I went overseas for a bit and the few months before I went I just got so busy so it just didn't happen.

Next up I plan to write the WooGyu story of this and then I'll update Woohyun's mistake probably. Maybe a Namjin or Banghim one shot before that. I dont know.

Anyway, I hope you find it to be alright.

Love you all! xx

P.S These are the hairstyles I was using for this fic. I want hair like Key's so bad.

Chapter 1: This is so great, oh my god. Ah, I love the idea ofKibum wiring fanfiction about himself and jonghyun while having the biggest crush ever on him while Jonghyun isn't really sure whether or jow to flirt with him because he thinks he's dating someone else but subscribing to his story anyway because he's secretly wishing for him and 'the rainbow guy' to be like that too. ;;;;;;<33
