They say that we lost something during the evoluation process. Human beings are unlike any animals not only in the way that we think and process emotions like love, hatred or nostalgia, but also in our disconnect from nature. Human beings feel very little connection to the planet Earth that we live on, and as a result we have spent every minute destroying it.  When we were a few decades away from a self-caused extinction the United Nations implemented the 'Re-evolution Project" in a desperate attempt to connect the human race and potentially save us from our own selfishness. The project was meant to make humans find that thing we lost through evolution, that connection that other animals feel. Maybe that thing was compassion, awareness, or instinctual responsibility, who knows. 

The government experimented with human genomes in an attempt to start this "reconnection" process from birth and on August 8th the first cluster was born. They were the first eight children selected, but their "connection"  didn't exactly happen the way the team of scientist had intended. At first the arbitrarily chosen bunch behaved like any other children would. They were normal and no more compassionate or selfless than most. The "Re-evolution Project" was considered a failure. However, when the cluster reached the age of 20 they began to change.It began with visions of each other than full blown mental interactions. A connection occured  between them emotionally and mentally. People believed their change was a cognitive side effect of the genome experimentation, but it wasn't. The cluster was able to share experiences, thoughts, communicate even though some spoke different languages, sense each other, use each other's skills or knowledge, and most notable-- love. 

It was said that love between two members of a cluster could not be comprhended by the average human.  It was an emotion that surpassed euphoria or experiencing the neurological effects of the greatest amount of dopamine that a human brain an emit. The members who loved each other were like one individual sharing each others inner most feelngs and thoughts without any censoring. They were an exapmle of love in its purest and most consuming form or at least thats how it was described.

When the government found out that their connection wasn't just a psychological hallucination they began group two.Cluster two was the government's next hope. They believed that they were close to their original goal, however cluster two was a carbon copy of cluster one, thus the "Re-evolution Project" was scrapped and new strict worldwide environmental and consumption policies were put into place. 

The history of this project is one that is told like an old folk tale in my family seeing that my great great grandmother was one of the members of cluster one. She was also the one who fell in love within her cluster. Her child, my great grandmother was chosen by the government to be used for cluster two, seeing as they thought she might be more susceptible to gene manipulation. So, the story has been told from generation to generation like an urban legend even though we are also taught about it in school. 

As I bike my way through the pristine city streets weaving in between other riders I think of that story again.Before it was nothing more than a story in my history textbooks and something that gave me superficial status amongst my peers in elementary school. But, beginning a few days ago my grandparent's story has become more relevant to me than ever, since I keep having visions of a boy that I've never met before.
