Time can either be the most precious thing in the world, or it can be the most agonizing. Events, emotions, and possibly even one’s status in the world could play a role on what time means to that person. What that person does with that information, however, is an entirely different story.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Woah! Is that it?!” (DH)

“Yep! We’re finally at Kanum. You all should be pretty safe here.” (LJ) It wasn’t far now, but the view upon leaving the forest was very different from the other two cities that they visited. On the outskirts of the city were farms that seemed to go on for miles. Every now and then, there would be some sort of house as well as, what Joon told them, a barn. There was livestock of all sorts, ranging from boscows to baazdens. This area actually seemed to be bustling with a sort of peaceful lifestyle despite the open plains, which was rather refreshing to see.

“What are those?” (J)

“Hm?” (LJ) Joon looked off to the side, attempting to locate whatever it was that Jessica was inquiring about. When he spotted the fluffy creatures roaming about, Joon smiled a bit as he refocused on his driving. “Those are baazden. Their ancestors were called sheep back in the day, but the baazden ended up evolving, or… err… changing their features. Their necks grew longer and they ended up growing a horn, but they’re relatively the same otherwise.” (LJ)

“What are ancestors?” (YA)

“Uh… they’re kind of like parents.  When a child is born, they look like their parents, but they still look like themselves. Same thing with the baazden.” (LJ) They all seemed to have amazed looks on their faces as they looked at the baazden. The large flock that was safely in the fenced off area seemed to all be similar to one another, but most of them believed Joon’s explanation regardless.

“What about those?” (L) Joon looked off to the left now to see the other livestock that were being raised alongside the baazden. “Those are boscows. Just like the baazden, they are pretty different from their ancestors, who were called cows back in the day. The differences between the two are the six legs that boscows have. Boscows are pretty strong and can run just as fast as a horse. Then again, people don’t really use animals for transport anymore, so they’re just raised for food.” (L)

“Food? What do you mean?” (S)

“Oh, uh… nothing! Nothing. Don’t worry about it. Anyway, we’ll be there in a few minutes. Not long now.” (LJ) Joon didn’t exactly have the heart to tell them that these animals were killed and harvested for food. Of course, they did it as painlessly as possible so that the animals didn’t feel any pain, but it wasn’t exactly something he wanted to scar them with. After all, they still didn’t know what went into the food that was usually made for them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upon entering the city, everyone except Joon moved closer to the windows to get a better look at the tall buildings. Unlike Arten City’s natural look and the stone-fortified look of Meindol, the buildings here not only looked sturdy, but they also seemed to be designed to show off. It had a sleek feel to it and felt much more in tune with machinery as opposed to anything else. It was probably much more obvious with the amount of technology that everyone around them seemed to be using.

The vehicles were just like the one they were using, if not fancier. Despite the fact that the other two cities had their citizens mostly walking, the people here seemed to be riding some sort of hovering device. It didn’t seem all that entirely safe, but if it was anything like the hover board, then there were either straps or some sort of energy keeping the people from falling off. “Woah… I want one!” (DH)

“Why aren’t they walking though?” (J)

“Hm? Oh, those! It’s mostly for energy purposes. People have energy too yanno and if they run out, then the cytallion is activated and used to help these people keep going. Helps keep people from loitering too if they’re just standing around.” (LJ) A few of them nodded, amazed by the technology that seemed to be available here. It did, however, seemed to raise a few questions.

“Then why can’t people just use it all the time?” (JE)

“It has a sensor that determines how much energy a person has. If they have over a certain amount, then it stays hidden. More or less, walking keeps people fit. With war eminent, now’s not the time for everyone to rely too much on technology.” (LJ) Jieun nodded, deciding that it was a good response. As he had the vehicle turn the corner, Joon couldn’t help but grin as his eyes landed on the center building. “There it is! The resistance headquarters! Or… more commonly known as Kanum’s City Hall. Excited?” (LJ)

“So are we staying here now?” (YA)

“Yeah! You’ll have to talk with Byunghee and someone else though.” (LJ)

“Someone else?” (DH)

“I… Have no idea. Byunghee wouldn’t tell me, but he said that it was important that you guys talk to him.” (LJ) Joon shrugged, but at least they were almost there now. Maybe they’ll be able to eat when they get there. No, actually, they should be given a chance to eat before talking. “Okay. When we get there, stay close to me and DON’T wander around. Some people there have some… problems with people snooping around.” (LJ)

“What’s snooping?” (S)

“Ugh… It means looking through people’s things.” (LJ) Hopefully, whoever wants to talk to this group would be the one to take care of them too. As nice as their company was, Joon wasn’t entirely certain if he wanted to continue acting as their caretaker.

Only a few more minutes had passed before finally, the vehicle came to a complete stop. One by one, each person piled out of the vehicle before gathering his or her things from the vehicle. Once they were settled, Joon began to lead the way through the parking lot with the group in tow. “What is this place?” (J)

“It’s a parking lot. We store our vehicles here when we’re not using them.” (LJ)

“How come there are no parking lots in the other cities?” (DH)

“Because the other cities don’t use vehicles like we do. They use it for far travel while we use it both in and out of the city.” (LJ) Besides the constant comments about how cool something was or how they wanted to figure out other things, there didn’t seem to be any questions that were directed to him. It was probably a good thing too, considering the fact that he was trying to figure out how best to report their venture to Byunghee. Of course, he was probably going to have to write out the report later, but he still needed to give a brief synopsis of what had transpired while they were making their way here.

Entering the main building, Joon walked past the various resistance members that were either looking their way out of curiosity or giving some sort of greeting towards them. He has been one of the higher-ranking members for quite a while, so this sort of attention was something he had become accustomed to. Of course, it was still considered rather strange for the others. Soon, one of the members of the resistance runs up to the group, a rather large grin on his face as he slows to a complete stop. “Ah! Sir! You’ve arrived! I’ve been told to you to where Byunghee is.” (DK)

“Alright. Lead the way.” (LJ) The soldier quickly bowed his head before turning around and taking the lead. Making their way up the building and through even more hallways, the group finally came to a stop in front of a pair of doors that had a guard on either side. At the top of the doors was some sort of device that, at first, didn’t seem to be doing anything. After half a minute passed, Joon folded his arms as he cleared his throat a bit. “Is it broken again?” (LJ)

“… Y-Yes sir…” The guard that answered seemed to be disheartened, though the reason was unknown.

“Gah...! It’s always something with this blasted machine.” (LJ) With an annoyed sigh, Joon walked up to the doors before tiptoeing as much as he could. Forming a fist with his hand, he reached up and hit the machine a few times before a bright light began shining. Joon pushed away a bit, standing normally once more as the light began moving up and down and vice versa, almost as if it was scanning something. After doing this about three times total, the light narrowed before honing in on Joon’s cryston. Once it was done obtaining the necessary information, the light disappeared as the double doors began to open on its own. Taking in a deep breath, Joon adjusted his posture before he began walking in.

“Ah! So our information was correct… as usual. Seokmin, please go and bring him here, would you?” (GO)

“Right away, sir!” (DK) The soldier, now named as Seokmin, quickly saluted before jogging out of the room. Byunghee quickly put away the plans that he had been looking at before looking up at the group. They seemed to be pretty okay, though… he did notice a few cuts and bruises on them. With a single brow risen, Byunghee walked around the front of the table and leaned against it before folding his arms.

“So… What happened to them?” (GO) Joon’s eyes widened for a moment as he gave the group behind him a quick glance.

“Them? Oh uh… Well, you see…” (LJ) After explaining everything that had happened, as briefly as possible, Byunghee quietly hummed to himself as he took a moment to think. It would’ve been problematic if any of them had become critically injured or worse, but it was probably alright for the time being. Since they’ve all arrived in one piece, it was best to move on.

“Alright. Joon, you may leave. I must speak with them alone.” (GO) Joon nodded before turning and making his way out of the room. Once he was gone, an awkward silence seemed to fill the room as Byunghee simply stood there, staring at the group with a smile on his face. When the silence couldn’t be taken anymore, Myungsoo stepped in front of everyone.

“Well? I thought you had to speak to us!” (L)

“Ah…! Nothing serious. We’re just waiting on someone before we talk.” (GO)

“Who are we waiting on?” (J)

“Daehyun!” (YJ) Everyone turned around to see Seokmin standing at the doorway. However, it wasn’t his voice that had called out for Daehyun. The voice belonged to a different male that was currently standing behind Seokmin. He seemed to be very excited, considering the fact that the man had a rather large grin on his face. “You’re finally here!” (YJ)

“M-Me?” (DH) Almost immediately, the man slipped past Seokmin before heading forward. After moving past everyone between him and his target, the man practically latched himself onto Daehyun, whom had a very confused look on his face. The man held him tightly, almost as if they hadn’t seen each other for years. Daehyun was certain that he knew the voice, but other than that, he didn’t recognize the man at all.

“It’s me, Young Jae! I helped everyone escape from Himchan!” (YJ)

“This… person helped us?! How did he do that?!” (L) Young Jae pulled away from Daehyun just enough to look at Myungsoo. He would’ve said something, but he decided that it was probably for the best that he didn’t. After all, he was just happy to see everyone after such a long time! He didn’t want to ruin it. Looking back at Daehyun with a big smile, Young Jae finally released Daehyun from his grasp before taking a few steps back.

“I have powers, but… we need your help to beat Himchan.” (YJ)

“What do you mean? How are we supposed to help?” (JE) Young Jae walked over to Byunghee before turning around and looking at the group. Any trace of happiness that had been on his face was now replaced with a more serious look. If anyone in the group held any sort of doubt of what Young Jae had to say, his look made them think otherwise. And if that wasn’t enough, the amount of wisdom and what looked like power seemed to constantly shine in his eyes.

“You all have powers too, but… it looks like you all don’t remember how to use them. Hm…” (YJ) Young Jae folded his arms as he began pacing back and forth. Should he explain everything in bulk? No… He has already foreseen the outcome of doing that. He needed to explain it little by little to let them adapt to this new, or rather, old information. “It’s okay. I’ll tell you all later. Let’s go to the rooms first! I think you’ll all like it.” (YJ)

“Seokmin! Show them to their rooms, then make sure to provide a map for them on their crystons to find their way around.” (GO) Seokmin, taken off guard, had jumped upon hearing his name, before quickly clearing his throat and walking up to the group. Adjusting his position a bit, Seokmin gave a nervous grin as he motioned for the group to follow him.

“L-Let’s go to the residential area! We have rooms prepared for all of you.” (DK) There were still questions that were waiting to be answered, but the idea of being able to rest up in an actual bed seemed to be too resisting. Sure, they weren’t in the vehicle for too long, but it was long enough to have them miss such a luxury. “So, just follow me and we’ll be on our way!” (DK)

As Seokmin began ushering the group out of the room, Young Jae quickly jogged after them before walking as close as possible to Daehyun. As a consequence, their arms ended up brushing against one another with every swing of the arm they took. Daehyun looked down at their arms for a brief moment before looking up at Young Jae. He didn’t understand why this man seemed to want to be close to him, but he decided that it might be for the best not to question it. Young Jae seemed to know him, so maybe he could find out whom he really was before he was taken in for experimentation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Are you hungry? Let’s go eat! I’m hungry!” (YJ) Well, a little bit of food wouldn’t hurt, but Daehyun kind of wanted to sleep a bit. He had been up for a good portion of the way here and it seemed like it was finally catching up to him. It couldn’t be helped though. Whenever he was in a vehicle, for some reason, Daehyun just couldn’t fall asleep as easily as everyone else. However, he did want to find out more about how Young Jae knew him. That’s what he said his name was… right? Of course, his thoughts came to an abrupt stop as he suddenly felt something pulling him off of the bed. “Come on, come on! Let’s go!” (YJ)

“O-Okay! Okay, already! Stop pulling!” (DH) Young Jae couldn’t help but feel giddy as the two began walking. He knew that he was supposed to take a more subtle approach when it came to talking to his past friends, but he couldn’t help himself. As long as he didn’t do anything too out there, then there shouldn’t be any problem with regaining them as friends.

“So, what do you think of the world? It’s different, right?” (YJ)

“Yeah! There are a lot of colors that I didn’t know about and there’s lots of machines and objects and words that I wanna learn about.” (DH) Somehow, talking about the world had managed to get Daehyun pumped up. He would've continued to talk about what else interested him, but another thought re-crossed his mind. “But uh… why were you happy to see me?” (DH)

How was he supposed to respond to that? That they knew each other over a hundred years ago? That they used to be lovers during that time? That he had been waiting so long just to finally reunite with him? There were many answers that he could’ve given, but each answer had a consequence to it. It was far too early to explain all of this to Daehyun, so… the only thing he could do was hold the truth back for now. “I’ll tell you when you’re ready.” (YJ)

“I’m not ready?” (DH)

“Uh… no. Not yet, anyway. I promise, I’ll tell you though. Just be patient.” (YJ)

“Oh… well, okay then.” (DH) It was a bit of a disappointment, but Daehyun was more focused on trying to figure out how to become ready as opposed to why Young Jae was pretty much holding back the truth. Seeing the look that Daehyun was making, Young Jae couldn’t help but quietly laugh before humming to himself. “What’s it like being here? Is it safe here?” (DH)

“Safe? I… would say so. We have the distaren, just like the ones you saw in Meindol. Our distaren are stronger though because I’ve enhanced their strength using my time magic.” (YJ)

“O-Oh…” (DH) Daehyun didn’t understand a large chunk of Young Jae’s explanation. He had managed to keep up with the first sentence or so, but the second Young Jae began talking about the distaren, he was completely lost. Of course, Daehyun didn’t bother asking for a simpler explanation. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to understand it as well as he would hope, but the sound of chatter quickly drew his attention.

They had left the residential area and upon reaching the stairs, Daehyun looked over the railing to see a handful of people in the lobby. Some people seemed to be busy as they kept their gaze down at their paperwork, other people were just standing around and talking, and the remainder of the people were just simply walking by. This place felt different from the other cities, but it may be because he hadn’t been in a building that would be considered as an ‘office’ building before. “Did you want to look around before we ate?” (YJ)

“Yeah! Can we?” (DH)

“No problem! I’ll give you the grand tour. I think you’ll like it here. Let’s staaart… here I guess.” (YJ) Young Jae led Daehyun downstairs before stopping in front of the lobby’s circular desk. The people behind the table looked up them, but when Young Jae didn’t acknowledge them, the workers turned their attention back to their work. “This is the main lobby. It connects all of the other buildings together and acts as a shortcut if people are too lazy to go around through the circular hallways. Since this building is at the center of the city, the distaren is located at the very top. There are smaller distaren’s on the outskirts of the city that act as a second layer, but otherwise, the distaren here could protect the city on its own.” (YJ)

“There’s more than one building?” (DH)

“I just said that! Are you listening?” (YJ) Young Jae lightly knocked on Daehyun’s head before laughing. Daehyun didn’t quite understand the joke, so he merely stared at Young Jae out of confusion. Noticing this, Young Jae quickly ceased his laughter and cleared his throat in an attempt to pretend that it hadn’t happened. “Anyway… Yes, there is more than one building. There’s the barracks for the soldiers to hone their fighting capabilities, the residential area, where everyone who isn’t a soldier stays, the recreational building, where you can eat and just relax, and then there’s the records building, where files and books of all kinds are stored. There is also another building for civilians, in case they want to voice a complaint or need to get something done. The mayor of the city runs that building. The building we’re in now acts as the meeting place where we discuss what needs to be done.” (YJ)

“Uh…” (DH)

“Too much?” (YJ) Daehyun nodded in response as he rubbed his temples a bit. All of that information in such a short amount of time had started to give him a headache and what’s worse was that he didn’t even know what a headache was, so trying to figure out why his head hurt only ended up making it worse. “I think it’ll be better just to show you. Come on!” (YJ)

Young Jae took Daehyun’s hand into his own before the two began walking once again. Daehyun looked down at their hands before looking back up at Young Jae. Ever since he first saw Young Jae, there was a weird feeling of familiarity present. He didn’t care if it was a good feeling or a bad one, but Daehyun truly wanted to know why it was there in the first place. Despite how much he wanted to know, he already knew that Young Jae wouldn’t tell him until ‘he was ready’. So… all he could do at this point was to just try and wait patiently until the time came.

After a while of walking around and explaining what each area was, Young Jae brought Daehyun to the top of the center tower. There, they stood in front of the distaren that protected the entire city. Unlike the distaren that Daehyun had nearly lost his hand with back at Meindol, this one seemed to be about ten times the size of that one. Luckily, this one was hovering at least twenty feet above their heads, probably to ensure that no one ended up getting hurt or killed by the device. “Wow…! It’s big!” (DH)

“Yep. It’s supposedly the strongest distaren on the planet. It can withstand any attack thrown at it.” (YJ) Young Jae’s voice had gone a little quiet towards the end, almost as if he didn’t believe the words he spoke. He had even mumbled a bit under his breath, but Daehyun hadn’t heard what was said. After clearing his throat, Young Jae leaned back against the ledge as he used his arms to keep himself from falling over the edge. “I’ll tell you a secret. Will you listen?” (YJ)

Daehyun turned his head towards Young Jae, curiosity beginning to rise as he leaned a little closer towards Young Jae. “What kind of secret? Did you eat something you weren’t supposed to?” (DH)

“Wha- No, no. Nothing like that. I just… Hm… I don’t think you’re ready to know.” (YJ) To anyone else, it would’ve been obvious that Young Jae was just joking around. However, since Daehyun was still learning about how social interactions work, he took Young Jae seriously.

“Know what? Know what?! I wanna know!” (DH) Young Jae chuckled a bit as he turned his head away from Daehyun. It would’ve been fine and dandy if he spilled all of his secrets right then and there, but judging by the visions that he had, it would’ve pushed Daehyun away. Then again, he did just tease Daehyun a bit with some sort of secret. Maybe any secret would be okay to tell.

“Ah! I think you’re not ready.” (YJ)

“What?! But…!” (DH)

“Let’s go eat!” (YJ) Without another word spoken, Young Jae jumped back onto his feet before he began walking towards the entrance. Daehyun stared at Young Jae dumbfounded, unable to form a coherent sentence. However, he decided to hold it off for now as Daehyun remembered what Young Jae said before walking. Getting to his feet, Daehyun quickly ran after Young Jae before matching his pace.

Hopefully, Young Jae would tell him everything soon.

There's quite intense in prologue and the third chapter, and I assumed that the whole story will be angsty as well, so I paused reading it for a little while. But after a while, I tried to have a little snippets on the fourth chapter and here we go!
I love it! I love how you bring them all into the cute, innocent, funny, adorable, and amazing adventure to the real world. I laughed and squealed when they keep asking about the common things that they haven't seen or touch before. Daehyun is so cute when he thought there were a huge people at the other side after seeing the large door, and sulking when he realized that only normal size people lived there. XD The fountain scene is funny and adorable too!
OMG, you're so brilliant to touch the simple little thing and makes everything looks so amazing, like I can see what the characters had seen. I can't wait for the next update, fighting!
