In Which They Remember

Let's Drink

15& Dorm: January 1st, 2016, 4:15 p.m. (Present day)

The only place where they can really tell their own story without interruptions is in Jimin and Yerin’s dorm, so that’s where they headed after leaving Ayeon’s place. They luckily catch a cab right outside Ayeon's apartment. Bambam and Jimin had both remembered a good part of the night after reading her drunk texts to Jackson, and Yerin and Yugyeom have to piece their own sides of the story during the ride home. By the time they all get home, they had all remembered some of the night.

Bambam sits down by the dinner table and makes a strange face. It looks like he’s trying to find the last of his memories before officially starting to tell what he remembers. Considering he just found out that he had kissed one of his best friends, it wasn’t the most fun task remembering how he got there.

“So? Who wants to begin,” Jimin asks, putting her purse down on her chair as Yerin and Yugyeom make their way to the table as well.

“Maybe I’ll remember more if one of you guys start,” Yerin says, and Yugyeom nods in agreement.

Bambam sighs. “I suppose I should start. I remember a lot now,” he says. It’s surprising he remembers most of it, considering he had taken the most shots out of all of them.

            “Okay, go ahead,” Yugyeom says.

Bambam takes a deep breath to speak his own part of the story.

Pierrot Strike: New Year’s Eve, 00:20 a.m. (Bambam’s point of view)

I think we had all taken our own shots, but Yugyeom was the one who was the most afraid. He had the least amount of shots to take out of all of us, yet he was the slowest drinker. It had gotten to the point where, by the time he was ready to down his last glass, the rest of us were already feeling drunk.

“Yugyeom-ah, just drink it already!” Yerin was yelling at him. Her personality takes a full turn when she’s drunk.

I think that after that, the two of you—Yugyeom and Yerin—just continued to fight about drinking. Yugyeom was feeling even shier when the alcohol started to kick in. I think it took him a good five minutes to finally down the last one. Jimin was having a harder time taking it all in, so she started rubbing her forehead.

“Bam… was it wrong? For me to do this…” she started pouring some of her heart out. Since I was apparently an even louder drunk, I just laughed at her misery. Sorry, Jimin-ah.

“What, what was wrong? You didn’t do anything,” I had responded.

Jimin then pointed at her shot glasses and pouted. Ah, something I definitely remembered is that Jimin does a lot of aegyo when she’s drunk. She tried to act cute for a good portion of the night before Ayeon took us home. Pouting, doing a nasal voice and doing that whole "I dreamt of a ghost" aegyo. Anyway, she started pointing at the empty shot glasses and made a wincing noise.

Jimin’s responses seemed to have been coming out much slower as she drank, so it always took her a good minute to respond to me.

“I shouldn’t drink much… what if I make a drunk mistake and start saying something out loud that I shouldn’t reveal?” It feels like Jimin totally knew what she was about to do (reveal something she wants to keep secret). But I acted dumb and just pretended that I didn’t want to hear any secrets—but of course I did.

“What, do you have something to hide?” I asked.

“No~,” Jimin sang, in a high pitched voice that matched her aegyo from before, “I’m just thinking… that…”

All of a sudden, she let out a huge scream. If I remember right, it caused some people to start staring at us. Jimin started squirming in her seat and started whining. Jimin had just remembered something embarrassing—I could tell by the look on her face.

“Bambam… why did I have to spend all that time with Youngji Unnie? At the Christmas party?” Jimin whined. “She’s so pretty and friendly. So perfect… I must be a horrible person to hate her. Of course Jackson Oppa likes her…”

“Ah, you’re jealous,” I realized out loud. Then… ah, sorry Jimin. I think it was my fault, but I took your phone out of your pocket and I started going through your text messages with Jackson. Drunk Jimin didn't seem to care. “You should tell the truth. Don’t… don’t dwell on the past.”

“What do you mean?" Jimin asked.

“If you keep thinking about Jackson without telling him the truth, then you’ll beat yourself up too much… I mean… move on!” I couldn’t really word myself right, but I got the message across. I think I was—sorry Jimin-ah—requesting that you confess your feelings to him.

But drunk Jimin thought that was a great idea, and took her phone from me. She began texting, and giggling to herself. “Okay, what should I write? I’m mad at him for not knowing my feelings… okay, I got it. Hey, .

She began texting away. The more she wrote, the sadder her words got. Yet no matter how sad her words were, she was still laughing. I has laughing as well, because I thought this was the snarkiest, most clever thing she’d done all night. “Are you dumb, deaf or blind? I liked you, idiot. Probably not anymore, but I liked you. I’m not feelin’ Youngji. Why does she have to be so perfect?”

I stopped you at this point, realizing your words really were coming out very sad. “Jimin-Jimin… you sound pitiful. You have to assert yourself as the higher person. Make him know you’re done with him, and move on!”

Jimin started smiling at the idea and continued to write. “Okay… how is this? it! I’m over you. Yeah, let’s be friends. Because you ain’t gettin’ any of this.” She cackled to herself, then invited me to cackle with her by patting my arm.

            And then… I think I said something afterwards…

15& Dorm: January 1st, 2016, 4:20 p.m. (Present day)

Bambam scrunches his nose and makes some odd motions with his hands, trying to continue his story. He even blushes a little, so the others assume that he’s simply frustrated and embarrassed that he can only remember so far. Yugyeom and Yerin are still trying to collect their own thoughts. Ultimately, Bambam gives up and throws his hands in the air for dramatic effect.

“That’s it! That’s all I remember,” Bambam admits and hangs his head in shame.

“So it was your idea to send the texts…” Jimin comments, looking both annoyed at Bambam and relieved for herself. Bambam looks away in embarrassment, and Jimin sighs. "I'll think of a proper punishment for you later."

“Good job, you’ve worked hard,” Yugyeom jokingly Bambam’s head to congratulate him on being the first to remember. Yugyeom is the only one in the room who didn’t know Jimin liked Jackson, so he tries his best to keep a straight face. “Sadly, your story doesn’t tell me much about what I’ve been up to with Yerin.”

Yerin shakes her head. “I think I’m starting to remember a bit more of the night… but it’ll all come to me if someone continues the story.”

She turns to her roommate. “Jimin? Can you continue the night?”

It takes her a few seconds, but Jimin ultimately nods after placing the pieces of her memories together. “Yeah, I know what happened after that. I definitely… yes. I’m starting to get it.”

Jimin nods again before starting her side of the story.

Pierrot Strike: New Year’s Eve, 00:30 a.m. (Jimin’s point of view)

So… I think I had sent the last of the embarrassing texts to Jackson—ah, why did I have to send them?! Anyhow… sorry, it’s just such a cringeworthy memory. Back to the flashback. Um, so Bambam and I started cackling to one another. Then Bambam slapped me on the back, as if we were football teammates.

“Good job, Jimin, you’re finally over him,” Bambam smiled, seemingly super proud of me. It's weird, Bambam. Normally you tease me about my feelings for him, but drunk Bambam suddenly wants me to be over him. Anyway.

“Why did you want me to get over him so badly?” I asked Bam, leaning in like an interrogation. Bambam covered my mouth with his palm and made a face.

“Shush, your breath smells gross,” his tongue isn’t very careful under the influence. “Anyway, it just to see you chasing a one-sided… hah, chasing a Hopeless Love.

I got a little annoyed at him making fun of my situation with my song. “What, so you pity me? Khunpimook?”

Bambam scrunched his eyebrows in confusion. “I don’t pity you! No, no, on the contrary…”

Bam was saved by Yugyeom, who suddenly came in the middle of our conversation. It was very odd; Yugyeom was close to tears, or was even crying already. I don’t really remember. But he was very sad nonetheless, and grabbed his sharpie from his pocket and scribbled, ‘It Was Me’ on Bam’s arm. He stumbled over some apologetic words (something like "I'm m so s-m-sorry") before Yerin grabbed him and dragged him away.

Being drunk, of course, we acted as if that was completely normal. Bambam seemed to want to continue our conversation from before, too. “A-NY-WAY…” he went on, “I’m your friend, and I just don’t want to see you chase him anymore. It’s useless, he has a girlfriend.”

            “So you pity me.”

“No! No—Jimin, no… I don’t pity you,” he tried his best to justify himself, “I just want you to know… that love is overrated!”

I’m surprised Bambam could still speak proper Korean at the amount he drunk. So when I asked, “What do you mean, overrated?” Bambam insisted on proving to me that love is a total waste of my time and that I need to get over it.

So as proof that love is overrated, he grabbed my head and pulled me in for a… um… well, you know. Somehow a drunk Bambam thought that doing that would somehow convince me to get over him. You know, that being... a kiss. He kissed me. Very hard, I must add, Bambam seems to be an aggressive one. But when I let go, and pulled myself away, he suddenly got shy and turned away from me. A total turnover of his real personality.

“Anyway… it doesn’t feel nice. See?” Bam finished off, and began to walk to Yerin and Yugyeom as a conclusion. Maybe the alcohol was really kicking in well, because his face was red as Mark’s debut hair.

15& Dorm: January 1st, 2016, 4:25 p.m. (Present day)

By the time Jimin finishes off her side of the night, Bambam is already covering his eyes and ears with his cardigan. He doesn't want to hear why or how he kissed her. Of course, since the story is embarrassing for him, so the others try their best not to laugh at Bambam’s drunk actions. Yugyeom fails to act mature, and can't help but tease his friend in the end.

“Ah… Bambam… if you wanted to kiss someone so badly, why did you have to make up a lame excuse like ‘Love is overrated?” Yugyeom teases, and Jimin and Yerin have to swallow their breath to not burst into laughter, “Or at least, you could have kissed a stranger to calm your hormones, now Jimin has to suffer the consequences.”

Bambam pops out of his cardigan and leans over to slap Yugyeom on the head. “You think I enjoy hearing this story either?! Now let’s move on, we still don’t know what’s up with you and Yerin.”

As the two boys continue to hit each other out of annoyance and a calming hangover, Yerin sits to herself. Jimin notices her friend is quiet again. “Yerin… do you remember something?”

Yerin pauses before she answers. She shakes her head. “No… I think I’m picking up what was going on during our weird fight with those men, but Ayeon Unnie already told us about that.”

Instead of forcing Yerin to remember more, Yugyeom sits up and pushes Bambam back to his own seat. “Okay, I think I remember what was going on with Yerin and I while Bambam was being an idiot with Jimin.”

Bambam holds himself back from punching his best friend again. “Fine, tell us.”

Yugyeom crosses his arms and starts recollecting his memories.

Pierrot Strike: New Year’s Eve, 00:20 a.m. (Yugyeom’s point of view)

So, I remember from around the time that Yerin started pressuring me to drink—not that I hold it against you, Yerin-ah—and I was down to my last shot glass. Bambam and Jimin started having their own conversation at the side. You know, Yerin had five shots but seemed much more drunk than me. Maybe that’s the result of being so skinny—being lightweighted is a curse when it comes to alcohol. But moving on.

I’m not sure why, but when I drank, I felt much shier. Yerin was loud, too, and I’m not used to this side of her. Eventually she pressured me to drink my last shot—that wasn’t very nice of you, Yerin, but I’ll let it go.

I don’t really know anything about what happened in between, but I assume that nothing too important happened until we heard the sound of Jimin weeping about Jackson. Yes—that’s when I found out Jimin liked Jackson! Right, I found out last night... Oh, sorry, Jimin, I’ll just continue. So, when Yerin heard Bambam and Jimin say something along the lines of “getting over Jackson”, Yerin had a great idea. Well, she assumed it was great.

“Yugyeom, did you hear them?” Yerin gripped on to me.

“Yes, I suppose,” I could only respond and watch as Yerin took out her own phone.

I was drunk, but of course I had the least to drink so I still had some of my sanity left when I saw Yerin dial Mark’s number into her phone. “Whoa… Yerin what are you doing?”

I tried to pull her phone away from her, but Yerin tugged it back. I guess that was a mistake, because she got mad at me afterwards. “Yah, Yugyeom! I’m calling Mark Oppa.”

            “Why?”

“If Jimin can scold her old crush over the phone, why can’t I?”

And of course, I don’t think Yerin would have yelled something like that if she were sober. Basically she was telling me she was going to yell at Mark that she’s over him, and all that stuff that Jimin said to Jackson. This was a ridiculous idea, and even drunk me knew that—sorry, I mean no offense, Yerin.

But I was only slightly right. Yerin was going to yell all of that, but she had so much more to say. Yerin’s strength is something I really underestimated, so when she held my hands down (so I wouldn’t interfere with her call)… I was pretty surprised. She went on to call Mark Hyung, while I scrambled (and failed) to get out of her hands.

“Mark Oppa… yah, are you there?” She didn’t put the phone on loudspeaker, but I could hear a very slight sound of a woman on the other end. It sounded like the default “Please leave a message after the beep” lady, but Yerin misunderstood and thought Mark was sleeping with some random woman. “Who are you? Huh? Mark Oppa, I thought you were going to listen to me, but apparently you’ve got other things on your mind. This woman… on the other end... who is she?”

I was still struggling to get out of Yerin’s grip, so I tried to persuade her with my words that the woman was just an automated message. “It’s not his girlfriend, Yerin… it’s the—”

I guess I was being really whiny and annoying, so Yerin let go of my hands and instead hit my head.  She continued ranting to Mark. “Anyway, you know I used to like you last year? But ah, since I’m younger than your brother, you said I’m like a child to you. That’s fine! In fact, that’s great! Better than saying I’m a delinquent, but you still don’t take me seriously. You don’t trust me, either.”

“Yerin, shouldn’t you stop, now—” I tried to interrupt, but she went on after staring daggers at me to shut up.

“You act like you care about me, but it’s all just labelmate friendliness, isn’t it, Mark Tuan? You don't really care about me. That's why I got over you. Whatever, after I got over you, I got more friends. You know I’m friends with real rappers, unlike you. I'm friends with some actual rappers like Olltii Oppa and Namjoon Oppa—”

She suddenly stopped and pulled the phone from her ear. It looks like her cheek pressed a button and she got cut off mid-sentence. If we were lucky, that last bit about Mark not being a real rapper would have been cut off.  I’m still unsure if we were that lucky.

I think my drunk mind may have overreacted, and I started staring at her as if she murdered Mark in front of my eyes. I was really surprised. Then… ah, this is embarrassing to remember, but I think that’s when I started crying. I suddenly started bawling in front of Yerin, and if I remember right, she didn’t seem to care.

“This is all my fault!” I started weeping. I thought that I was at fault for every little thing that went wrong tonight—including Yerin sending that god-awful voicemail to Mark Hyung. “It’s because I wanted your New Year’s plans to all fail... the Thailand trip and your stupid meeting with your Oppas.”

In response to this, Yerin got even madder at me, because she misinterpreted my words. She thought I meant that I quite literally canceled Jimin and Bambam’s flight to Thailand. She also thought that it was me who set up that fiasco with the Oppas from the club. So she started scolding me again. I think she even hit me a few times.

15& Dorm: January 1st, 2016, 4:30 p.m. (Present day)

“And then… that’s when Yerin’s scolding drove me to run to Bambam and write ‘It Was Me’ on his arm…” Yugyeom trails off, his hangover getting the best of him. It seems that that’s as far as his memory allows him to go.

With that, his story ends, and Yerin remains as the only one who hasn’t figured out much about last night. Yugyeom’s side of the story answers most questions that were asked earlier today, some of which they were dreading to hear the answers to. Yerin is, once again, exposed to have done something embarrassingly out of character, and nobody really dares to make fun of her like they did to Bambam. Jimin breaks the silence.

“Um… well, that answers a lot. Bambam’s side as well, of course. So we know…” Jimin coughs a bit to clear . “We know where Yugyeom’s lip got cut, from what Ayeon Unnie was telling us before. We know where the writing on Bambam’s arm is from—we also know Yugyeom is a whiney emotional drinker—”

“Hey!” Yugyeom interrupts, offended. Jimin laughs a little, knowing she’d brightened the mood.

“—we know who Bambam, um… k-kissed… and who I texted… and what happened with Jackson Oppa and I…”

Jimin pauses again and looks at Yerin before hesitantly continuing. “We know what happened with Mark Oppa…”

Yerin speaks up, stammering a bit. “Well, according to Junior Oppa, I apparently scolded Mark Oppa for responding to my call with ‘Um, sorry’. So there’s that part of the story that we don’t know.”

Yugyeom nods. “I also still don’t know what I ‘did, but don’t know if that’s a good thing’, since I apparently said that to Jinyoung Hyung. And Yerin’s blood stain. That’s also still a mystery.”

Yerin sits back in her seat, hunched a bit as if she were avoiding eye contact. “You okay?” Jimin asks, and Yerin simply nods.

“I’m… okay. Actually, I think we answered most questions of the day, why don’t you guys go home to rest? We’ve been stressing ourselves all day, and it’s our day off. Okay?” Yerin rambles on her demand, and it seems reasonable. Everyone is still pretty tired, and nods to her request.

With that, the four 97-ers expect their detective day to come to an end, and the boys make their way out of 15&’s dorm. Jimin immediately runs to her bed to catch up on some more sleep, and expects Bambam and Yugyeom will do the same. Yerin remains awake. There's still a bit on her mind.

Two hours pass.

GOT7 Dorm: January 1st, 2016, 6:30 p.m. (Present day)

Yugyeom is startled when his phone buzzes on his bed, breaking the resting silence in his room. Bambam is listening to music on his phone on the other side of the room, so he doesn’t seem to notice. Yugyeom picks up his phone, and the screen reads that he has a new text message. One swipe left later, he sees it’s from Yerin. Did he forget something at her dorm?

“You, come out, we need to talk.” So straight to the point. He doesn’t really know what this is about, it’s so out of the blue. Nonetheless, he texts back lazily. Odd. Normally if Yerin would text him something like that, his heart would flutter like a pre-teen. Now, it feels like there's a lot of weight on his chest.

            “What? What’s this about.

A few seconds later, a buzz of his phone shows she’d responded. “I know I sent you back home only a while ago but I really need to talk to you. Meet me at the JYP building, okay?

Yugyeom begins getting out of bed and putting on his jacket as he texts. “Yerin, if it’s really important, can you tell me at least a bit over the phone? I’m getting a little worried here.

There’s no response, and Yugyeom curses her quiet mouth at this point. He walks out of his room, and Bambam removes his earphones when he sees Yugyeom leave.

“Gyeom?” Bambam calls, but Yugyeom had already left him behind.

JYP Building: January 1st, 2016, 6:42 p.m. (Present day)

It doesn’t take long for either party to make it to the JYP Entertainment building. Yerin hurried up just out of the neediness to tell Yugyeom. Yugyeom made it quickly out of a paranoid mind.

Just as quickly as they made it to the building, they notice each other. Both are standing in front of the building. They quietly walk inside together—it’s celebrity’s telepathy to talk to someone of the opposite indoors, where their fans can’t see. The two of them both try to act as if nothing is on their minds, even though a million thoughts are running through both.

They continue to walk in silence, and soon find themselves inside the recording studio, where nobody is listening in on them. Yerin makes sure none of the equipment is on—it would be awkward to be recorded while talking. When all of that is done, Yugyeom speaks first.

“You um… you wanted to talk?” Yugyeom still tries to act calm.

“Yeah,” Yerin can’t really contain her feelings too well. “The thing is… um, that… I think I…”

She shakes her hands around nervously, not knowing how to talk. Finally, after she calms her nerves, she looks him in the eyes with a more determined attitude. “I actually remember what happened after that.”

That was straightforward. “After what?” Yugyeom asks.

“I remember what happened after where you trailed off… during last night's blackout,” Yerin breathes in, “I know what you said to me, and I think you know what I did to you.”

Yugyeom is an idol; a part of a boy group. Ever since training, he’s been programmed to keep a poker face in dangerous situations. Yet, in this situation where he feels so in danger, why can’t he contain his expressions? His emotions are too evident.

“Say it out loud. What did we do?” Yugyeom says.

“Bambam and Jimin showed their story to be no big deal, but…” Yerin sighs again and breathes in one last time. “You confessed to me again, didn’t you? And I… kissed you.”

A/N: A lot of you guys predicted the ending pretty well hahaha, but I guess I made it a bit obvious~ Yerin will tell her side of the story soon. And of course the 'Let's Drink' series won't end when the flashbacks end, we still need to resolve some issues with Markson. Until then, thanks for reading!

Chapter 10: I loved this fic so much! It's so rare to find a good 15& centric fic. And the way you had their relationship with Got7 and the rest of JYP Nation, I absolutely loved it. You write so well! The gifs at the end of each chapter were a really nice touch too (I actually made some of the gifs in the foreword myself ^^)

Chapter 10: This was a really well written fanfic in my opinion. It feels almost like a movie or a book, and the characters weren't actually idols, but just normal fictional characters. But I mean that in a good way, because if this was a book, it would be written well I think. Good Job!
