GEMINI PROJECT™ [previously CC™ // closed]I've been wanting to get this off my chest for a while now, but I felt like it would sound like I was whining. And maybe I am, but I still want to say it.
I know that I am not the greatest designer around. My posters aren't mindblowing. I get that. But the lack of... feedback, I guess you could say, is seriously disheartening. A comment like, "Picked up. Thanks," on a graphic shop is equivalent to a "Great chapter. Update soon," comment on a story. It's very lackluster. Now, I don't expect requesters to bomb me with designer lingo and comment on my composition and texture usage, but something as simple as, "This was worth the wait," or "I like what you did with the colors/how you added ___, or "This wasn't what I had in mind, but I still like it a lot," etc. makes me really, really happy. Even critiques or something like that I would appreciate a thousand times more than "Picked up. Thanks," because then I know that you actually took the time to look at what I made for you.
Constantly receiving that comment has made me want to stop accepting requests. If I were to just make posters for myself all the time, there would be no feedback required and honestly, getting no feedback is better than getting some and being consistently disappointed.
A lot of people who request for posters aren't designers so you might think I'm making a big deal of nothing, but just imagine this: you've spent an hour or more on a gift to someone and when you go to give it to them, they give you this nod and a halfhearted thanks.
It doesn't feel good.
Please know that I am not ordering anyone to do anything but if you want to request from a designer whether it be me or someone else, please remember that we aren't machines. We have feelings. We are making you these personalized posters (usually) without asking for anything in return. We put time and effort into what we do for you.
Remember that.
