1) Singles : refers to figure skating (singles). Judged by female and male categories
2) Pairs : refers to figure skating (pairs). Mixed gender category.
a/n - i used the ice dancing category in the last version but i’m changing it up so that the story has more potential for plot development
Note: the skill sets for Singles and Pairs are very similar in terms of jumps and choreography. Pairs, however, requires pair work between the lady and man and involves other components such as pair spins, spirals, lifts and synchronisation.
3) Competitions
a. Junior category : 13-18 years (singles); 13-21 (pairs)
b. Senior category : 15 and up *qualified by senior test
c. Short programme (referred to as short skate or short) : 2min 40 (junior) to 2min 50sec (senior)
d. Long programme (referred to as free skate or long) : 3min 30 sec (junior) to 4min (senior)
e. Scores
(i) Programme component score : creative artistry, style, and presentation
(ii) Technical score : difficulty and execution of the technical elements
4) Coach : teaches technical elements of the sport, refines athleticity and artisticity of skaters
5) Choreographer : responsible for the choreography or routine of competition programmes
