Let's start off with the vowels. There are a total of 21 vowel symbols in hangul, with 11 basic vowels and 10 double vowels. 

Basic vowels:

아     a
어     eo/uh
오     o
우     oo
으     eu/u
이     ee/i

애     ae
에     e
외     oe/we
위     wi
의     ui pronounced like yi

 

Double vowels

by adding the y sound

야     ya
여     yeo/yuh
요     yo
유     yoo
얘     yae
예     ye

와     wa
워     wo
왜     wae
웨     we/whe


I am already assuming that you know that you know the pronunciation to the romaji. I am hoping that you could practice writing this already... ^___^ The next chapter will be for the consonants.

Before I forget, a little note on the vowels. I'll be using the term "bright vowels" in the next chapters soon, so it will be better for you to be familiar with them: 아 and 오 and the vowels 왜,와,애 and 얘 since they were just derived from the first two mentioned. There are also the "dark vowels" 어 and 우, and  워,웨 and 예. Bright and dark vowels cannot be combined together so you'll never see a vowel that is combined by ㅜ andㅏ , nor with ㅗ and ㅔ. Of course there are also called "neutral vowels" which are ㅡ andㅣ.

Now try going back and reading them out loud. Be familiar with the . It will be confusing at first but with practice, it will be easier. And I also suggest you memorize these first before memorizing the constants (in t

Hello, can I just ask, how do I improve on my grammar? Cause like I can learn words easily from hearing it on shows or TV or whatever but the grammar is something I really can't get past so yeah.... pls help 감사합니다 :)
