Telepathetic
Description
Every year, an average of around 264,000 people are struck by lightning worldwide.
Now, I'm normally no good at math, but let's break that down.
In a month, that's 22,000 people worldwide.
In a day, considering the average day count of a month is 30, that's 733 people.
In any given hour of the day, there's about a fifty percent chance of being struck by lightning. That means there's another fifty percent chance of not being struck by lightning.
Then how the hell did I end up here with those statistics?! How, in a fifty-fifty situation, did I get stuck with the short end of the stick?!
Oh, tumblr is so not going to believe why I've been away.
Characters
Park Jinhee (Jenny)
She is an 18-year-old Korean girl, born and raised in LA, California. Her parents encouraged her to get into her Korean background and that's how she became obsessed with a group called CoreA, and the anti-fan of their rival group, EXO. She is a popular tumblr blogger. After being struck by lightning, she develops a telepathic link with EXO's Kai.
Ahn Hana (Hannah)
She is Jinhee's best-friend. They get into friendly bickers often, because she considers herself a fan of both EXO and CoreA. She is quirky and kind-hearted. She has a secret crush on EXO's Park Chanyeol. Hana is aware of Jinhee's telepathic link with Kai.
Park Jaeson (Jason)
He is Jinhee's older brother. At 19 years old, Jaeson lives with his family as he goes to university for music. He is supportive of his sister and contrary to the older-brother stereotype, he can't wait for her to get a boyfriend. Jaeson is aware of Jinhee's telepathic link with Kai.
Thalia Donnahue
She's the richest girl in all of Koreatown, LA. Despite not having any Korean blood-ties, she is infatuated with the culture and the music because she's lived in Koreatown all her life. She especially loves EXO, and has a distaste for CoreA. She is trying to learn Korean. She and Jinhee do not get along well. Thalia is unaware of Jinhee's telepathic link with Kai.
Kim Jongin (Kai)
He is the dancer of EXO, and member of EXO-K. He was struck by lightning and miraculously survived after a four-month coma. Because he was fine, he is now resuming his activities with EXO. He has a telepathic link with Korean-American Park Jinhee.
EXO
A popular K-Pop group consisting of members Suho, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, D.O, Sehun, Kai, Chen, Xiumin, and Lay. Former members include Kris, Luhan, and Tao. They are active in both South Korea and China. The members are unaware of Kai's telepathic link with Jinhee.
CoreA
A popular K-Pop group consisting of members Falcon, Dongsoo, Hai, Vesta, J-key, Low, and Gongsoon. Their name comes from the word "core", because "CoreA performs from the core of their hearts." It is also a word-play on "Korea", from where they originate.
Park Jinhee, known to her American friends as simply Jenny, is a Korean-American high schooler. As a teenager, her parents encouraged her to get into her culture by listening to more Korean music. They quickly came to regret it because now, as an eighteen-year-old in her senior year, Jinhee is obsessed. She reads nothing but fanfiction, watches nothing but k-dramas, and spends all her time blogging. There is only one thing she cannot stand about the K-Pop realm: EXO. Why? Because she's a fan of their rival group, CoreA.
Kim Jongin, known to his fans as Kai, is a member of EXO. He is famous for his extremely good looks and endlessly y dance moves. He is endearing to his fans, and absolutely irresistible to his stans. As EXO recently made a comeback, he is quite busy. So busy that on Monday, April 13th, at 10:24 PM KST, he had to walk back to his dorm under pouring rain when his car broke down, just so that he could get the sleep he needed to perform early the next day.
At the exact same time, at 6:24 AM PDT, in Los Angeles, California, Park Jinhee was making the trek to her before-school tutor. Under her umbrella, she thought she was safe.
Neither of them were, for lightning may be rash, but lightning is not blind.
Both the blogger and the popstar were struck by lightning at the exact same time. Both direct contact strikes, cloud-to-ground. Neither were expected to survive, and if they did, they wouldn't be functional. Both were "miraculously" perfect. Completely fine.
They soon realized that what they thought was a miracle soon tore off the pretty mask and revealed it's true cursed nature.
Now they were telepathically linked.
'Where am I?' heard Jinhee in a male voice she knew for sure that she hadn't heard before. He sounded so close. 'In a hospital..? I think..?' he answered his own question.
Her eyelids fluttered open. No one else was in the white and grey room. But... The voice... It was so close! 'Lightning? I was struck by lightning?' It was still there.
What the hell is going on?
'Who was that?' came the male voice once again. After quite a lengthy pause, it was back. 'Huh. I could have sworn I heard a girl...'
Wait. Could that be me?
'I did hear a girl! But... Who?' Jinhee felt like the voice was coming from right behind her, but her bed's headboard being right up against a wall proved that wrong pretty quickly.
Are you... talking to me?
'I can't believe it. I'm going crazy. I'm hearing voices in my head,' said the voice, almost panicked.
Hear, hear.
'So... You can hear me, too?'
I guess.
'How? What? Why? How?!'
How should I know? The last thing I remember is walking to my tutor's house.
'I was walking to my dorm... It was raining. And apparently I was struck by lightning.'
Lightning? It was raining while I was walking, too, but I would think I'd remember being struck by lightning...
Just then the door opened. By the woman's attire, Jinhee could guess that the person who had just walked in was a nurse. She seemed shocked to see Jinhee.
"You're awake!" she said in English. It was only then that Jinhee realized that the voice in her head had been talking to her in Korean.
"I'm awake," Jinhee croaked. "How long was I out?"
"About... four months. You were struck by lightning. We didn't think you'd survive, but you did!" She checked over some pages on her clipboard.
"So... What'd I miss?"

author's note
I've always wanted to write a telepathy fic. I actually don't expect this to be that long of a fic, but the last time I said that, well... I'm still writing that one at 40+ chapters now...
We'll see how it all plays out.
I would like to pay homage to MADTOWN, who's picture I used to represent CoreA. I do love their music, and I hope I didn't offend anyone by using their pic. :S
As always, I would immensely appreciate support, Upvotes, subscriptions, even a simple comment'll do! You never realize how easy it is to make someone's day. :)
Thank you to chinab3rry @ ❄ Aero - graphic shop for the beautiful poster and background! I love it!
Thank you to exoexoexolellel @ Bby Promotions for advertising! :)
