Outta my way
Falling Hurts (When Someone Is On Your Mind)
At lunch, I sat down with the sports crowd. Even though I didn’t actively participate in their conversations, their voices covered over my presence.
Suddenly, Kristy came, sitting from across from me. “Can we talk?”
I nodded, continuing to eat.
She breathed in. “So, you know how this morning we had that conversation, and how you were different? I think we should break up.”
I stopped eating, from the feeling like a weight from my shoulders was lifted. “What?”
“We should break up.” She kept looking at me. “You’re different, I’m different. We can’t possibly hold this relationship together.”
“Okay.”
She looked at me, puzzled. “You, you don’t mind?”
I put down my sandwich. “You’re right. We’re different. It can’t possibly work.”
“Yup.” We sat in silence for a second.
“See you later, Jerome.” Kristy got up.
“Bye Kristy.”
So now you got your girlfriend out of the way, huh?
“Yup.”
Back into the “market”, eh?
“And you would know this because…”
Hey, just because I was here since the start of time doesn’t mean I can’t keep up with the times.
“Right. So tell me, do you judge animals the same way you do to humans?”
Yup. Boy, don’t get me started. It’s hilarious how they think sometimes, compared to you humans.
“So you think like humans?”
Mostly. But hey, at least I can speak with animals.
“…I’ll take your word for that.”
