ACT IV

WHEN EVERY LITTLE THING COUNTS

If Sooyoung’s favourite time of the day is lunch break, Kwon Yuri’s favourite would be during basketball practice and club hours. It’s during these times where she can be carefree and not mind all the other people’s opinion. Yuri isn’t deaf, as much as she can hear all the compliments coming from all her fan girls, she can also hear all those nasty comments and rumours about her and her ‘dating problems. But Yuri doesn’t mind. Just like what she always tells to Sooyoung and Taeyeon, “I don’t care what they say and think about me. As long as the two of you knows the truth and believes in me then I don’t give a to whatever they’re saying.”

Today is their team’s first practice since the semester has begun and that causes Yuri to be hype all throughout the day. She couldn’t wait to step on that shiny court, grabbed a ball and throw a very smooth three point shot. So just like Sooyoung’s reaction when she’s excited for lunch break, Yuri would always jumps out of her seat and run out of the door to go to the most special place in her heart, the school’s gym.

“See you in awhile Soo, I’ll go ahead first? Okay” Yuri dashed off the door without even waiting for Sooyoung’s reply.

“Aigoo. What’s to be excited about basketball practice? I mean its fun but not after you went home and feel all the pain on your joints”

“Well, I would be as much as excited as Yuri is if I am on the team” Taeyeon said. “If I’m not on the singing club then I would definitely enlist myself to be on the basketball team”

“Huh! Like you can even touch the basket Kim Taeyeon. Heck! I believe you couldn’t even manage to touch the backboard.” Sooyoung laugh as she ruffles Taeyeon’s hair.

“Yah! Do you really need to always mention my height..... and stop messing with my hair.”

“Aww. Sorry Taeyeon-ah. You know I’m just messing around but really, are you serious when you said that you would love to be on the team? I can help you if you want”

“For real? OMG Sooyoung you’re the best. I’m excited to see all those y legs” Taeyeon said as she wipes the drool that is about to escape from her lips.

“What are you talking about? You’re creeping me out. There isn’t much of a scene from our team, if you remove Yuri and I that is”

“What? I’m not talking about the basketball team. I’m talking about all those cheerleaders. Aren’t they practicing on the field which is just across the gym? Those y cheerleaders with their pompoms and short skirts; they’re worth every drool from my mouth.”

“Okay! Okay! Cut it out! Forget about being on the team. You’re the worst” Sooyoung grabs her bag and begins to walk out of the door.

“Yah! What did I said? I’m just saying the truth” Taeyeon says as she grabbed Sooyoung by the wrist. “Don’t underestimate the power of the skirt Choi Sooyoung! You’ll see”

“Whatever Byuntae. We’ll see you after club hours” Sooyoung said as she released herself from the grip of Taeyeon and walks out of the room, leaving the frustrated Taeyeon alone.

‘Psssh! What a saint. CRAP! I better head to the club room now. Tiffany would definitely scold me if I’ll be late even for a second”

“Hey Yoona, what club are you from?” Hara said as she fixes her things getting ready to leave.

“Hmmm. Just some ordinary club out there, nothing really special. Why? Haven’t you decided on what club you’re joining yet?”

Hara saw Yuri dashed off the room with a priceless expression in her face; she looks like a kid excited to go fishing with her dad for the first time.

“Yuri looks like she’s really in the mood for today.”  Hara said, not even answering Yoona’s question.

“Well, its club hours and that only means the basketball team will be having their practice today”

“Oh, I see. So Yuri’s in the team and she’s giddy just because they have practice today?”

“Uh-huh. She loves basketball practice because that’s the time where a lot of girls would probably ditch their club just to see her and being a person who is always full of herself, it would be her most glorious moment. Just a piece of advice, stay away from clubs that are near the school’s gym if you don’t want your eardrum to breakdown because of those screaming fan girls. ” Yoona said sarcastically while doing some exaggerated hand movements with her hands.

Hara only watches Yoona as she continues her rants regarding her most favourite topic – how stupid Kwon Yuri is. She has been hearing this for almost a week now and it is clear to Hara that even if she let Yoona do all the ranting all day, it wouldn’t be enough but seeing her bestfriend’s reaction sure is epic, so she just let her be. The scene causes Hara to giggle but Yoona seems like she didn’t notice it as she is too busy with her seems to be like an endless speech.

“......and that’s only a short list of why you should stay away from that Stupid Kwon. Got it?” said Yoona as she finishes one of the many pep talks that she would give to the poor girl regarding Yuri.

“Got it!”

As soon as their coach blows the whistle, signifying to the team that they could have a 20-minute break, Yuri immediately walks on the sideline and let her back rest on the comfort of the gymnasium’s floor. Though tired, she really feels glad. Especially when her request for making their practice close to public is granted – this means no fan girls.

She closes her eyes as she laid there in silence with her arms placed under her head and legs stretched. She laid there motionless as if she is sleeping. She wouldn’t notice someone else’s presences if that person didn’t spoke.

“Hey, is this spot taken?”

Yuri suddenly shot her eyes open as she instantly bolted into a sitting position with her arms resting on her knees. She gazes up to see the person standing beside her and is surprised to find out who it is.

“Hara-ssi?”

“Uh-huh, that would be me but please drop the formality.” Hara flashes a smile that could melt any fan boy’s heart. “So, is this spot taken?”

Yuri only manages to shake her head.

“Do you mind if I sit here?”

“There’s plenty of room for you” Yuri taps the spot next to her, indicating to Hara that she could sit beside her.

“From the look that you had when you saw me, you seem surprise. Why? Is someone going to be mad to see me sit beside you?” Hara said teasingly as she sat beside Yuri.

“Naaah. No one will g—“As soon as Yuri laid her eyes on Hara, someone else’s image pops out of her mind .“Wait! I think there is a single person who will definitely throw daggers at me the moment she sees that I’m with you” Yuri couldn’t help but to laugh as she imagines that person doing what she just said while Hara is just enjoying herself  watching Yuri laugh her lungs out. Yuri saw this and tries to compose herself.

“Sorry about that.” Yuri wipes the tear that’s in her eyes. Nothing can beat Yoona’s fuming reaction

“No worries. It’s okay”

“Oh, By the way I’m –“

“Kwon Yuri. Nice to finally meet you” Hara offers a handshake to which Yuri eagerly takes. Yuri doesn’t know why she feels too comfortable talking to the girl all of a sudden. This is very unusual for her considering that she never really discloses her thoughts easily to someone.

“Yoona told me a lot about you” Hara said once she saw the questioning look Yuri had on her face as to why she knows her name because though they’re classmates, they haven’t got the chance to introduce themselves to one another except for today.

Yuri answers with and ‘O’ expression. “So what did she told you?”

“A lot of things. I don’t think that there’s a need for me to elaborate it further since I’m pretty sure you already have the idea what those are”

“Im Yoona and her unending hatred towards me” Yuri sniggers but as soon as she see that Hara is looking at her she felt uncomfortable so she tried to change the subject to lift the mood.

  [cough] “So, I guess you kinda have the idea of who I am then?”

Hara stands before she answers Yuri’s question. “Hmmmm. Let’s just say that I know a lot of things. Even the things that you thought I don’t know, I know and even the things that you don’t know, I know”

 “What do you mean by that?” Yuri frowns.  She can’t help but be curious as to what the girl means.

“Don’t get too excited. I’ll tell you some other time.” Hara winks at Yuri before she makes her way out leaving Yuri scratching her head out of confusion.

“What was that all about?”

“Kim Taeyeon where have you been?” Tiffany shouted across the room as soon as she saw the girl stepped her foot inside the music room.

“hmmmm. Class room?” Taeyeon scratches her head as she makes her way towards the seat beside Tiffany.

“Yah! You know what I mean” Tiffany crosses her arm and puffed her cheeks.

“Awww. Why so cute Pany-ah” Taeyeon said as she pinches the other girl’s cheek. “I was caught up on a conversation with Sooyoung that’s why I’m a bit late”

Upon the mention of Sooyoung’s name, Taeyeon was surprised to see Jessica bolted up from a seat that is beside Tiffany with an expression that Taeyeon couldn’t fathom. She didn’t even notice that the girl was there in the first place.

This is actually the first time that Taeyeon saw Jessica but she knows she couldn’t be wrong that it was her. She has been stuck on hearing all those stories about the girl from Yuri because of Sooyoung.

Always clinging to Tiffany, blonde hair and cold aura – she’s definitely Sooyoung’s ice princess

“Jessica?” Taeyeon said, though she’s certain that the girl in deed is the ice princess, she couldn’t think of any possible words to say. So she just blurted out the girl’s name out of panic.

“You know her Jessi?” Tiffany asked, as she looks from Taeyeon then to Jessica.

“I know no midget” is all that Jessica said before she takes her seat again and drops her head on the table – ready to sleep.

“Yah! Who are you calling midget?” this time it’s Taeyeon who stands up when she realized that it was her that Jessica is referring when she said midget.

“You are. You got a problem” Jessica said monotonously with no expression on her face.

Taeyeon just stood there. She feels chills run down her spine. The girl hasn’t done anything yet but that stoic expression sure is something. She felt that her brain stop working for a second. Plus, She remember what Yuri once said, “be grateful when she throws you a stoic expression because when you see her glare, it’ll be the end of your life. So don’t think of doing something stupid that could wake up the sleeping dragon”

When Jessica sensed that Taeyeon would not answer back, she smirked before she makes her way back to dreamland.

Tiffany just watched the whole ‘interaction’ between Jessica and Taeyeon. She’s a bit surprise that hearing Sooyoung’s name could actually wake Jessica up. Not to mention that Jessica didn’t scare Taeyeon though she’s completely aware that Taeyeon is Yuri’s bestfriend as well.

You don’t like Sooyoung? You’re a bad liar Jessi. I’ll get back to you later

Tiffany then shifted her attention back to Taeyeon. She couldn’t help but to giggle when she saw the girl still standing with mouth slightly opened.

“Close your mouth Taengoo-yah, flies might enter to it” Tiffany pulled Taeyeon to sit beside her.

“What is she doing here? Isn’t she from the book club?” Taeyeon pointed at Jessica with a mix expression of confusion and terror.

“Well, she just transferred in our club to accompany me and don’t point at her like that, she might woke up”

Taeyeon immediately withdraws her hand. She leans slightly forward to peek on the sleeping dragon beside Tiffany and gulps unconsciously.

“Don’t worry she don’t bite” Tiffany giggled and pokes Taeyeon’s nose that causes the girl to smile.

“So when are you planning to tell me?” Tiffany said as she stacks the music sheets inside her locker. Apparently, club hours are over. Tiffany asked Jessica to accompany her first before they head home together; so beside her is Jessica whose back is resting on the locker, arms crossed and eyes closed.

“Tell you what?”

“That you actually like Sooyoung”

Jessica flinched for a bit of second, she didn’t see that one coming but she recovered soon enough. She opens her eyes and looks at Tiffany with a bored expression on her face.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about”

“You completely know what I’m talking about” Tiffany gave her a reassuring smile and held her by the shoulder. “I can totally understand if you do like her”

“I don’t like her and the only thing that I feel for her is hatred.”

“Awww. C’mon Jessi spill it out already. Don’t be a shy girl. You like her. Yes? Yes? You know you do” Tiffany said teasingly to Jessica as she pokes the girl stomach, trying to make her smile.

Jessica couldn’t help but to laugh as Tiffany continues to poke her stomach. She managed to capture the girl’s wrists in order to stop her and throws an icy glare at her.

“Don’t push it Miyoung” Jessica said as she release the girl’s arms.

“Tch! You’re no fun you know that.” Tiffany pouted but her expression change all of a sudden when she saw a familiar figure running towards their direction. Tiffany grins.

“If you really like Sooyoung, I have nothing against it. Yuri and I had issues but we already settled it out and we’re cool now. So don’t mind me okay? Plus, wouldn’t you agree if I say that Sooyoung really looks cool or should I say hot wearing that jersey right now”

Jessica frowns. What does she mean about ‘Sooyoung really looks cool wearing that jersey right now’? Soon enough, Jessica’s question had been answered when she turns around and found herself in front of Sooyoung.  She’s covered with sweat and she’s panting really hard nonetheless she looks really hot with that jersey on her.

“Thank God.....you guys....are still......here” Sooyoung said in between her breath. She’s holding on to her knees as she tries to grasp for air. She then stands up and flashes a goofy smile to the two girls in front of her.

“What are you doing here?” Jessica said with a cold tone in her voice but it seems like Sooyoung didn’t hear it and instead she greeted the girl with enthusiasm.

“Nice to see you too Sica “Sooyoung said as she pinches Jessica’s cheek.

 “You too Tiffany. I think you’re getting a bit taller each day” She then gave Tiffany a wink to which the girl replies with an eye smile.

“Oooh! Are you trying to impress me so that I’ll root for you for Jessi?” Tiffany claps her hands out of excitement.

“kekeke. Am I that obvious? ”

“Hmmm. Just a bit” Tiffany made a gesture, making a small distance between her thumb and index finger which causes Sooyoung to pout. Seeing it Tiffany adds, “It’s a bit obvious....but I like it” 

“Yah Miyoung! Stop saying nonsense because the only person that will root for Sooyoung is me” 

Sooyoung was surprised to hear what Jessica said. Am I dreaming? Oh food God, if I am dreaming then I don’t want to wake up from this sweet slumber” A grin started to appear on Sooyoung’s face as she throws her arm around Jessica’s shoulder but the other girl is much quicker. Before Sooyoung’s arm could finally land on Jessica’s shoulder, the girl grabbed Sooyoung’s arm and twist it behind her back. She then hissed at Sooyoung’s ear,

“Who says you can touch me? When I said that I’ll be rooting for you, I mean it literally. I’m gonna bury you into the ground if you don’t leave me alone. “

“Chill babe! I love you but I’m gonna be the man in this relationship so please release my arm before it breaks.” Sooyoung said as she let out a nervous laugh. She has this bittersweet expression on her face. She doesn’t know if she should be happy because this is the second time that she and Jessica has gotten this close but does this mean that she might end up having a broken limb?

“What did you say!? We’re not dating and don’t call me babe!” Jessica was surprised to Sooyoung’s sudden confession. ‘Is it really a confession?’ Is the question that is running inside Jessica’s mind right now. She’s used to hearing other people confessing to her. But this is the first time that someone does it carefree. Usually, guys (or even girls) would prepare long speeches and they would shower her with gifts. But here is Sooyoung, saying it like she isn’t Jessica – the ice princess.

While Jessica is in deep thoughts, Sooyoung took this opportunity to release herself from Jessica’s grip. She then hides behind Tiffany’s back just in case Jessica would rip her head off.

“Yah! Get your hands off Tiffany” Jessica shouted as she raised her fist in the air.

“Geez babe! I never thought you’re the jealous type of person. Don’t worry we’re just friends and I’ll be gone once I’m done with my business here okay?”

“What is it then? Finish it quickly” Jessica crosses her arms and starts to tap her feet on the floor, she’s getting more impatient at each passing seconds.

“Here take this” Sooyoung hands a piece of paper to Jessica but Tiffany is the one who took it.

Tiffany reads what is written in the paper and when she realized what is it, her eyebrows rises.  “Whose number is this one?”

“That’s my number and I’m giving it to Sica” Sooyoung said as she steps out from hiding behind Tiffany’s back sensing that it is safe now.

“And who gave you the idea that I’ll be texting you once I got your number?” Jessica said sarcastically.

“Oh it’s not like that. I’m not giving it to you so that you would text me, I’m giving it to you so that you’ll know that it’s me when I text you” Sooyoung grins when she saw the shocked expression on Jessica’s face.

“You already have my number?”

Sooyoung nodded enthusiastically. She’s clearly enjoying seeing Jessica’s expression changes from stoic to a cold glare, then into frustration, then shock, and now she’s seeing confusion written all over her face.

Jessica is surprised when Sooyoung told her that she knows her number. How is that even possible? Only a few people know her digits. So she’s wondering who the hell spill the beans.

“Who told y—“before Jessica could even finish her sentence, her eyes landed on Tiffany. Her eyes then went wide. “YOU DID!”

“Well, she pleaded to me to give her your number. Plus, I couldn’t say no especially when she bribe me with this pretty pink bag”

Sensing immediately that this would mean trouble, Sooyoung makes her way out before it even get started. She quietly took a couple of steps away so that she could escape Jessica’s wrath. But a dolphin scream keeps her feet rooted on the ground.

“CHOI SOOYOUNG!!! WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING?’ Sooyoung slowly turns around and she swears that right now Jessica is fuming with anger; she’s red as a tomato.

“Awww. You look pretty even when you’re angry Honey” Sooyoung smiles lovingly at Jessica while the other students who are seeing the commotion seems afraid to move even just a flinch.

Sooyoung tries to walk slowly backwards while saying, “I would love to go back there but you see I still want to live and have babies with you, so I think I’ll pass for today, okay? See you tomorrow” then she runs for her life.

“GET BACK HERE CHOI SOOYOUNG WE’RE NOT DONE YET!!” Jessica continues to scream at the running shikshin.

As promised here it is, chapter 4. i was kinda pressured finishing it since i said that i would post the update today; it's a fail isn't it? but i'll make it up to you guys. its mxas vacation so i'll probably be posting he next chapter within the week.

take note of the title of chapter 4 okay? there's a reason why i named it that way. Happy holidays guys
