Mark grabbed the cereal from the cupboard as Haechan took out the milk.
“You didn’t lock the doors when you came home last night.”
“Yeah. So?” Haechan shut the fridge and grabbed his bowl.
“Someone opened the door and almost came in last night. What if we got robbed? What if I got murdered! I would have been the first victim!”
Mark put the cereal box on the counter after pouring some into his bowl. “First of all, we live in a college dorm. There’s less than 10% chance that someone would come here to murder students. Second, you sleeping on the couch isn’t my problem.”
Haechan sighed. “What if it happens again?”
“It won’t. Who would be stupid enough to walk into another room?”
Haechan frowned but nodded. “I guess you’re right. By the way, are you going to Taeyong’s party tonight? I heard it’s going to be lit.”
Mark cringed at that word. “No, I have to study. And even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t go. I’d rather stay at home and watch Netflix than go hang out with those hooligans you call friends.”
Haechan snickered. “Hooligans? Mark, you sound like an old man! Come on, man. You have to loosen up. You’ve been cramped in this dorm ever since we moved in. Venture out a little.”
Mark threw his bowl into the sink and grabbed his backpack. “I’ll think about it.”
Haechan smiled, “Tonight at 8!” Mark waved his hand in the air without turning around before leaving for his morning class.
Arin walked into class and sat down at the front, right in front of the teacher. She set her pens and papers out neatly and opened her laptop.
She was looking at the school page when she heard someone sit down next to her. She scoffed, knowing exactly who it was.
“Writing your fanfiction again?” The voice snickered.
Arin shut her laptop and glared at him. “It’s none of your business, nerd.”
Mark growled and opened his notebook. “You know, if you want to sit next to me everyday, then you should just say so instead of getting to class early to steal my seat every morning.”
“Since when was this seat yours? And I don’t even like-”
“Good morning, class!”
Arin shut up and glared at him before saying good morning to the professor. Mark rolled his eyes.
Mark shut his textbook and stretched his arms up, letting out a satisfied and tired groan. “Studying for next week’s test, check. Should I start tomorrow’s homework?”
Mark reached for his backpack when he saw the clock on his desk that read 8:47 pm. He remembered Haechan’s words from that morning.
“I guess one party won’t hurt.”
Mark got dressed and left the dorm to go to the co-ed dormitory on the other side of the campus.
Right when he opened the door, a strong whiff of alcohol and weed bombarded his senses. He coughed and walked inside while waving off the smoke that surrounded the college students who were grooving to the music with red cups in their hands.
Mark looked around for Haechan but couldn’t find him. He sighed and down on the sofa.
A couple jumped onto the spot next to him, almost crushing him, while each other’s tongues off. Mark grimaced and got up to leave when Haechan stopped him.
“You came! Here, have a drink.”
Mark refused, “I can’t tolerate alcohol well.”
“Aw, come on. One shot won’t hurt.”
Mark shrugged and downed the shot in one gulp. He hissed at the sting down his throat. “I think I’m going to go.”
“What? But you just came, right? And the party didn’t even start yet!”
Mark looked around at the dancing bodies and people throwing up, jumping on tables, and running around screaming. “Are you sure it didn’t start yet?”
Haechan rolled his eyes. “Come. I’ll introduce you to my friends.”
Mark groaned while grabbing onto his throbbing head. “What the .” His head hurt so much that he could barely think. He opened his eyes and furrowed his brows when he saw purple bed sheets.
Mine are grey, he noted before turning to his side.
Mark’s eyes focused on something, or someone, in front of him and he screamed. Screamed so loud that the girl lying next to him jumped awake.
She reached for her glasses and blinked at the boy in front of her before screaming and kicking him off her bed. “Mark! What the hell are you doing here?”
Arin gathered the blanket around her body and hugged herself while staring at him like he was a maniac.
Mark, who was now on the floor, stared back with wide eyes. “I-I have no idea. Where am I?”
Arin gulped and yelled back. “My room!”
“What? How did I get here?”
“That’s what I should be asking you!”
Mark closed his eyes and tried to think back to what happened last night. Haechan introduced him to his friends, who weren’t as bad as he thought they’d be, and then he took a couple of more shots. He remembers dancing to the music, playing pool, and drinking some more. And then Haechan disappeared.
I left the house and then… and then. Mark’s eyes flitted open when he remembered.
Mark stumbled out of the co-ed dorm and fell on the lawn halfway to his dorm. “Ugh, I’m so tired.” Mark rolled onto his back and stared up at the sky.
He sighed, “Feels nice to just… lie here with no worries…” His eyes slowly closed.
And that’s all he remembered.
Mark shot up from the ground and pointed his finger at her. “I didn’t come here on purpose! It was an accident!”
Arin rolled her eyes, “If you want to be next to me, you should just tell me instead of sneaking in at night and-”
Mark grabbed his shoes and ran out of her dorm before she could finish.
The door shut and he pressed the elevator button. The door opened and he saw Taeyong. “Hey, how was your night? I’m sure it was great with Arin.”
Mark gawked at him. “What are you talking about?”
“You walked straight into her room last night so I assumed you were dating her.”
Mark’s face fell. Did I walk into the wrong room last night? Haechan's never going to let this go without a tease.
“It’s nothing like that.”
“Are you sure? Because-”
“I’m 100% sure!” He yelled before stomping down the emergency staircase.
