Sorry for the long wait!
"I thought you said you were coming home early today."
Christine huffed as she walked into the lobby of her apartment complex.
"Sorry, the bus is coming late so I'm not going to be home until after midnight."
"Midnight?! That's crazy!" Christine pushed the elevator button to go up as she yelled through the phone.
"It's not my fault you forget your key all the time. If you want, call the locksmith. They'll probably open the door for you."
The elevator dinged open and Christine stepped inside. "Whatever. I'll figure something out."
She shoved her phone into her purse and blew her bangs as she watched the numbers go up.
The doors opened on the fifth floor.
Christine silently prayed that there was a spare key in the potted plant next to her door where Mark said he left it last time.
She felt the soil and leaves for the metal object and groaned when she didn't find anything.
"I'm screwed." Christine sunk down onto the floor and frowned.
"Do you need help?" An unfamiliar voice made her look up and gasp.
There was a gorgeous man in front of her with two cardboard boxes in his arms. He was slightly sweating and breathing heavily.
Christine's eyes trailed to his muscular arms, and his white shirt was not helping.
She realized that she was staring and cleared . "I should be asking you that. Here."
She stood up and took the top box into her arms.
The gorgeous man chuckled, "I'm Jackson. I just moved in next door."
Christine looked at apartment 507 and saw that the door was open.
"I'm Christine," she smiled. He smiled back, making her heart flip and her stutter. "I-I'll go put this away."
Christine avoided his eyes and walked to his apartment. She set the box down and looked around the empty space.
"Do you need me to help with anything else?"
Jackson shook his head with his lips in a thin line. "Nope, that was the last of it."
He walked back from the kitchen and gave her a glass of water.
"Is there a reason you were looking so sad sitting outside your door?"
Christine finished the glass and wiped .
Jackson gave her an uneasy look and he stepped back. "Is it too personal to say? Bad break up?"
Christine laughed, "No. I just left my keys inside and my roommate isn't coming back till after midnight."
Jackson looked somewhat relieved, "So no boyfriend? Unless your friend is a boy..."
Christine laughed again and shook her head. "No boyfriend, and my "friend" is just my stupid twin brother."
She looked around again and realized that the only furniture in the wide room was a couch.
"You can stay, if you want." Jackson "dusted" the couch and motioned her to sit.
"Unless you find it weird that a male stranger is asking you to stay in his apartment alone with him. I'm not a creep, I swear."
Christine chuckled, Not weird. Just cute. Extremely cute.
She sat down and he took a seat next to her. "So, why did you decide to move here?"
Jackson leaned back and shrugged.
"I thought it'd be nice to finally live in the city. And my work is here so it's better than riding the subway for two hours everyday."
"Where do you work?"
"I'm a choreographer."
Christine's eyes lit up. "My brother is a choreographer too! Maybe you know him. His names Mark."
Jackson's eyes widened. "Mark Tuan? Yeah! He's one of the best at the academy."
And just like that, they continued to talk as the hours flew by.
And little by little, they scooted closer to each other until their legs were touching.
Christine laughed while leaning back at a joke Jackson cracked and hit his arm.
"Stop it, you're making my stomach hurt."
She wiped a tear and leaned forward again. A little too forward.
Her face went straight again as she stared into Jackson's eyes that were only inches away from hers.
He gulped and bit his lip as his eyes lowered to hers.
In the heat of the moment, Jackson started to lean forward as Christine's heart raced.
What do I do? We met today! He makes me feel all gooey inside but this is too soon.
Christine suddenly shot up from the couch. "I-I think I hear someone outside."
She checked her watch and nervously chuckled. "It's past midnight. It's probably Mark."
She grabbed her purse and walked to the front door, leaving Jackson flustered. "Thanks for letting me stay. See you later."
Christine shoved her feet into her shoes, not putting them on properly, and fled out the door.
Jackson blinked at the door before grinning like a little boy.
"See you later. That means we'll see each other again soon."
