Worth It

Her smile couldn’t be wiped from her face.

She met someone that made her want to smile all of the time.

“Estelle if you keep smiling, your face will get stuck like that.” She heard a close friend say.

“Mark, I can’t help it. Since you introduced me to everyone, everything just seems to be better. I mean just look at him. He’s amazing.”

“Stop. You sound like you’re in love. Don’t you think you’re too young to be in love?” Mark asked.

“It’s not a choice when it happens my friend. And I don’t know if it’s love. I don’t know him as well as you and the others do, but I sure want to.”

She sat and watched everything her crush did, all while drowning out her friends words. She was mesmerized by this guy. Something about him just made her smile all of the time. Before they would even talk there was a smile on her face.

He managed to peek at her, mid conversation with his fellow friends. Just seeing him look towards her way made her heart do a little dance in her chest.

“Stells, are you listening to me?” Mark asked with a hint of laughter in his voice.

“Yeah. Uh huh. Wait, what?” She said, finally tearing her eyes away from the boy.

“I said are you going to come out with us tonight? We’re going to have a night out on the town and-”

“And I’m pretty sure you still owe me a dance from last time!” Jackson chimed in.

“I don’t know guys. It’s like I’m always the only girl that ends up going out with you guys.”

“Well it’s just me and Mark going out tonight. We need a woman to make us look good and to make others jealous.”

“Jackson that’s very flattering, but I really don’t know. I have some things I still need to do at home.”

“Who cares!? You are coming out with us! You don’t have a choice!” Jackson was shouting and jumping on the couch by now.

“Alright, fine.” She sighed and looked towards Mark. He couldn’t help but to raise his shoulders and shrug.

“When are we leaving?”

“Soon, so-” Mark tried to answer her.

“So go get ayyy!” Jackson was still standing on the couch, but now rolled his hips to emphasize the word y.

Estelle brought her palm to her face in embarrassment. How did she- no. Why did she become friends with someone that sometimes seemed to be quite an idiot. Nevertheless, Jackson always made her laugh. And when Mark tag-teamed up with him, all hell would break loose and Estelle would have a hard time recovering from all of the laughter they would cause.

“Mark, could you just call me when you get close to my place?”

“Will do my dear.”

She waved goodbye to the boys and made her way to her home. It’s not that it took long, but it was because the sun was setting and she wouldn’t mind going out with her friends. She was actually kind of excited. While she would get ready, Jackson would send her random pictures of himself and Mark getting ready. One even included a candid of Mark trying to get dressed and Jacksons laughter booming in the background.

Estelle was putting her finishing touches on her make up, almost ready to slide on her shoes, when her phone rang.

“Mark, you’re almost here?”  she answered, not even bothering to greet him.

“Actually we are here, so whenever you are ready, come on down.”

“I’ll be down in a minute. I just need to put on my shoes.”

“Okay. and by the way we brought Jaebum too.”

“YOU WHAT!?” She screamed into the phone. By this time he had hung up. There was no way that she could argue with them as to why they had brought him.

She now had to triple check herself in the mirror to make sure she looked okay. It’s not that she didn’t care about her friends looking at her appearance, but more so since she had a crush on Jaebum.

Her black crop top and high waited shorts matched her complexion as she threw a pair of hot pink heels on her feet and made her way to the door. in a deep breath, she was startled to have Jackson already waiting behind the door.

“I was about to see how long you would be.” He said with a quirky smirk. “You’re prince is waiting in the car for you.”

“Jackson, please do not embarrass me.” She pleaded as the about reach the last step.

Estelle had been reaching for the handle of the car, seeing Jaebum and Mark inside.

“Oh I won’t.” Jackson answered, giving her bum a tap.

“Hey!” She shouted at him.

Making him jealous- were the words that were mouthed to her. Adding a wink, Jackson could see her blush. She had to sit in the back of the car with her crush. Her heart was pounding already, she only hoped that he couldn’t hear it.

“You look nice.” Jaebum complimented her with a smile.

“Thank you.” Her cheeks burned as the flushed in embarrassment.

She needed to stare out the window, just to calm herself. She would almost die if she didn’t.

“Stells, don’t forget. You are my dance partner tonight. You owe me from last time.” Jackson announced upon the arrival.

“Yes I know. I didn’t forget.”

“Good. Let’s go!” He said grabbing her hand.

“Are they dating?” She could hear Jaebum asking Mark from behind them. They were trying to make their way to the party, surpassing everyone standing in line.

“No. Jackson likes her though.” Mark answered him.

“I guess I have some -.” She couldn’t hear the rest of what Jaebum had said. The overpowering loud music was beating through her body. Jackson was already dancing, pulling her with him to the center.

“Why are you doing this?” She had to almost yell into his ear.

“Because I know if he likes you or if he doesn’t.” He was basically mocking her crush on his said friend. “C’mon. Just dance and have a good time.”  Jackson twisted her around, making his back face himself, forcing her by the hips to start swaying with him.

She actually did enjoy dancing with Jackson. Sometimes she would ponder what it would be like with Jackson. Would it always feel this- good? It almost felt sensual when they were like this. She leaned her head back onto his shoulder as they kept up with the rhythm. He dipped his face into her neck, hesitating his next move. He knew it would drive his friend crazy, but yet he didn’t do it just for the kicks of that. He was doing it for the sake of his feelings for her as well.

Estelle was taken out her thoughts when she felt like she was being eyed. Squinting through the bright strobe lights, she could see her crush dancing with another woman, but his eyes didn’t leave her. He had no interest in anything but her. She tilted her ahead and motioned for him to come closer. He left the other woman, no words exchanged that they had finished dancing together. He headed toward the other two, only to walk passed them. Estelle knew he had a bit of a temper, but she wondered if this time was pushed too far.

“Just forget about him Stells. Lets go have a drink.” Before Estelle knew it, she was sitting at the bar with Jackson downing shots like a game.

“Jackson. I think we shouldn’t drink anymore. I will be sick tomorrow.” She warned him.

“How about I take you home. We can forget all about Jaebum there.” Her judgement was clouded from the alcohol she had consumed, but she couldn’t help but give him a glance and then lead the way. She wanted to see what Jackson had in store for her.

So this is chapter 2.
It's taking it back to before she and Jaebum got to the point they are at right now.
It's going to be just a few chapters of different memories.
Then it will return to modern day in their world.
Feel free to comment and tell me what you think.
Even if it's a comment about how you may like the lead character better with someone else.
