The Great Christmas Party
Love Songs with Baekhyun
Chanyeol isn’t sure of a lot of things ever since a sassy man named Byun Baekhyun literally came in his life like a wrecking ball (much like the cut outs of Miley Cyrus sitting on all of his Christmas tree ornaments that Baekhyun insisted on having). For instance, getting so drunk out of his mind that he doesn’t recall gyrating his hips all over Baekhyun in the club with Chen recording everything on his phone and Li Yin egging him on by the side (good grief, Chanyeol nearly had a heart attack when Chen sent the video into their Whatsapp chat group) or the fact that he had kissed Tao on his cheek when the man offered him more drinks for free despite Baekhyun trying to wrestle him away from the vicious bartender. At least that gave Baekhyun a rather persuasive reason to stay away from the club for the time being but still, Chanyeol didn’t understand why his kitchen had to be converted into a warzone with dirty mixing bowls laying around the counter, flour and broken eggs carelessly spilled over his marble flooring while something that smells like death cooks in the oven.
“Uhm… Baek?” the giant called tentatively for his lover as he tried to avoid the mess on his floor. “I bought back the sauces and condiments that you wanted. But is everything okay?” by everything, Chanyeol was referring to the mess which included Baekhyun. “Your eyeliner is smudged.” He pointed to various parts of his own face before resorting to drawing a circle around his face. The eyeliner was literally everywhere.
“I know!” said man exclaimed with his fists in the air and Chanyeol took a few steps back for safety measures. It was a few seconds later did he register the smudge of black eyeliner on the back of Baekhyun’s fisted hands. “I was just trying to bake some Christmas cookies and prepare for a cake, but I kinda forgot about the turkey stuffings and then… and then…” Baekhyun started exhaling in deep breaths and it didn’t take Chanyeol too long to figure out the man was hyperventilating.
“It’s okay, calm down!” gathering the shorter in his arms, he rested his chin atop his head while rubbing his palm up and down Baekhyun’s back. “You don’t really have to prepare all the food if you can’t. I know I’m useless when it comes to cooking but I have my feet and enough money to buy us some food. You don’t have to cook everything by yourself.”
“No.” Baekhyun shook his head obstinately. “This is our first time throwing a Christmas party and since we turned down Sehun’s invitation to the club, we better make this good enough for all of them. I’m going to have chicken, turkey, lobster, and every other food he can possibly imagine to be part of our feast. I am going to blow his mind!”
“Maybe if my house doesn’t blow up first? I think there’s smoke coming out of the oven.”
It took approximately a minute for the smoke to be completely distinguished and for the entire kitchen to be flooded with water. Watching the water droplets drip off his fringe, Chanyeol surveyed the surroundings and heaved a sigh of relief when he saw that the rest of his house was saved from the water currently spraying down on them. “What in the world…” Baekhyun sputtered as he attempted to sweep hair out of his eyes. The water had sent the remnants of his eyeliner running down his cheeks and Chanyeol decided that it was best to keep mum about it for the time being.
“The smoke triggered the fire extinguishers to kick in.” Chanyeol pointed to the device mounted on his ceiling which was still mercilessly dispatching the downpours.
“Damn it!” Baekhyun exclaimed all of a sudden, causing Chanyeol to jump just so very slightly. (Okay, fine. Baekhyun was too loud and he was startled. The day hasn’t exactly been peaceful either.) “My food!” the shorter wailed and fluttered about the kitchen in attempt to shield his precious ingredients with his body. Chanyeol was going to point out that everything was already sopping wet anyway but Baekhyun beat him to it this time as he shouted in frustration before sweeping everything off the counter and onto the floor in his rage.
“I’m sorry.” The shorter muttered as the both of them scrubbed at the marble flooring with rags and sponges in their hands. “For ruining your kitchen and the dinner. I thought I could handle it after doing this for years but I guess I forgot that Luhan and Kyungsoo play vital roles in the kitchen as well.”
“So the three of you usually prepare the Christmas feast together?” Chanyeol pulled a playful smile on his face hoping that it would prompt the other to mirror his smile.
“Kyungsoo is great at overall commanding us to do stuffs. The dude never forgets a single step or ingredient in anything even if we’re working with five ticking ovens at the same time. Kai is so fortunate to have him preparing all of his meals. Even Luhan’s cooking is decent enough for Sehun’s exquisite taste buds while I just made the biggest mess ever out of your kitchen. I’m sorry.”
“Hey,” dropping the rag in his hands, Chanyeol sat down on a clean spot and pulled Baekhyun over to sit between his legs. “Remember that time I was sick and you made porridge for me? It tasted so good I still dream of it to this very day. I was so sick I probably couldn’t even properly taste anything, but I still managed to enjoy your cooking! That goes to show you’re actually a great cook and today you’re just too pressured to perform as you usually would.”
“Giant,” despite the blotches of black decorating Baekhyun’s face, his eyes was still perfectly rounded in the most adorable way as he looked up at his lover and Chanyeol swore his heart leapt out of his ribcage at one point. “What do you think of having some of that heavenly porridge for dinner?”
“That sounds lovely.”
After notifying everyone via their chat group that the Christmas feast was off (and earning a good lecture from all of them, but Chanyeol avoided it temporarily by putting the chat to mute), Chanyeol soaked up the remaining water puddles while Baekhyun took over the stove, stirring the pot of porridge meticulously as he boiled it over low heat. There was a soft tapping of foot, and Chanyeol turned around to see Baekhyun tapping his foot as he hummed along to the Christmas carols that Chanyeol had put on the radio earlier. A smir
