Chapter 48
Trapped.
It’s been a week since the pre-wedding party, a week since the incident in front of the hotel took place, and a week since Baekhyun last saw Chanyeol. Yes, you heard that right, because the day Baekhyun took Chanyeol to his apartment, and slept beside him, he woke up to find the bed empty. Chanyeol just vanished, he managed to wake up at the break of dawn, and sneak his way out while Baekhyun was sleeping.
It’s not that Baekhyun would usually mind, he knew his best friend was having a rough time, and maybe needed sometime alone, but something about Chanyeol being unnoticed by anyone for a week made his heart uneasy, especially after the news of the wedding. Because three days ago, as Baekhyun was trying to find something to watch, he stopped on an entertainment channel after something caught his eyes.
Exclusive:
IU Enterprise’s Spokesmen declares moving wedding to 3rd of January.
Baekhyun stared at the TV with wide eyes.
“3rd of January?... That’s 10 days from now!” He whispered to himself. He then turned up the volume a bit, as a young lady in a red formal blazer, and black hair, read out the news with an excited smile.
"… IU Enterprise’s spokesmen declared that Lee Ji eun, heiress of IU Enterprise, and Wu Yi Fan, heir of Wu Empire, will be getting married on the 3rd of January. The marriage will be a sealing of the partnership contract between the two head companies in Asia.
The whole country is keeping a close eyes on the couple and, waiting impatiently for the wedding of the century, as some people call it.
The heiress made her first public appearance ever a week ago, stunning the public with her beauty and grace as she stood alongside with the young, Chinese business man, both of them showing a tight bond, and lovable chemistry…
Somehow it’s now been official that the young couple is actually the most admired around Korea, and also China. We wish the couple a happy life…
And as always, stay tuned for an exclusive coverage of the wedding, only on our channel..."
She then gave her signature smile, and the program went on commercial break.
Baekhyun stared at the TV with utter surprise, he was actually panicking, all his thoughts traveling towards his best friend, and whither he saw this or not. He hoped to God that he didn’t, and also hoped that Suho didn’t as well.
And now he was sitting on his couch, flinching at the memory, and waiting beside his phone for Chanyeol to call him back, because every time he’d call someone woud answer instead of Chanyeol and say that he’s busy with work.
That was utterly ridiculous, because everyone knew that The Park Chanyeol didn’t work, sure he was supposed to inherit the company after his father, and sure he’s supposed to be managing some kind of branch in the company, but Chanyeol never paid attention to those minor obligations (as he would like to call them).
A knock on the door startled Baekhyun who was seemingly lost in his thoughts, he stared back at the door for a few seconds, until another knock came, snapping him out of his trance. He stood up and walked to the door, looking at the clock hung on the wall at his right side, he felt a little confused as it read 12:16 AM. Baekhyun tried to think of someone who’d visit him at such hour, but he couldn’t think of anyone aside from Chanyeol. With a doubtful mind, Baekhyun opened the door and a wide smile made its way on his face when he saw Chanyeol standing in front of him with a warm smile.
Baekhyun wasted no time and threw himself on his best friend, enjoying the warmth of his embrace that always seemed to make everything good.
“God, I was worried sick about you… I thought you died, dude what the heck?!” Baekhyun exclaimed as he buried his face further in Chanyeol chest, making the taller chuckle lightly at how weird his best friend sounded.
“So you thought I died and didn’t come to check on me?” Chanyeol asked with a teasing tone. The shorter pulled away and his eyes fell to the ground with a look full of guilt.
“I… Well… I called a few times… you…” Baekhyun played with the hem of his sleeves, but a few seconds of silence passed, and his head shut up in realization.
“Wait a sec!” His surprised expression turned to an angry one.
“I CALLED A MILLION TIMES THIS WEEK AND ALL I GOT WAS MR. ING PARK IS ING BUSY BECAUSE HE’S GOT A LOT OF ING WORK UNDER HIS HANDS!!!!!!!” Baekhyun burst out in anger and Chanyeol couldn’t contain his laughter, Baekhyun’s reaction was just so freaking priceless. But Chanyeol’s laughter only increased Baekhyun irritation even more.
“YAH PARK CHANYEOL!!” He shouted and Chanyeol’s laughter came to a sudden stop.
“I’ve been going with my dad to the company this past week; he needed me to finish some papers that accumulated on his desk some time ago…” Chanyeol answered simply, trying hard not to burst out in laughter again. Baekhyun just stared at him with confusion, and then decided to shrug the whole matter off.
“Fine, you’re my friend again… come in!” The shorter exclaimed and turned to walk back to his couch.
Baekhyun and Chanyeol spent hours of after dressing into their favorite pajamas, bickering, making hot chocolate together, and watching pointless dramas like some teenage girls on the TV. They now sat, side by side on the carpeted ground, leaning against each other to gain as much warmth as possible, and watching a pointless Taiwanese drama that they didn’t pay much attention to.
“Baekhyun-ah…” Chanyeol started first after a long silence, and the said boy turned to look at him with have lidded eyes, and a bored expression.
“I have something to tell you… it’s about Ji eun…” Baekhyun rolled his eyes as if bored of talking about the girl, but deep inside, he was shaking and couldn’t stay calm because he feared his best friend was still concerned about her.
“I’m not gonna try to be with her anymore… I mean, sure I still love her and all, but I love myself as well… I’m not gonna lose myself for her or anyone else.” He exclaimed in a low tone, and Baekhyun mentally sighed in relief.
“Finally coming back to your senses, eh?...” Baekhyun exclaimed with a teasing tone, and Chanyeol just sighed a laugh. “… about time, don’t you think?”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Chanyeol bit his lip for a second, then turned to look at the TV, avoiding Baekhyun’s gaze. “You were always right actually, but I never listened…” He exclaimed, still keeping his tone low, almost sending chills down Baekhyun’s spine because he sounded so regretful, and his gaze showed extreme pain.
“Chanyeol…” Baekhyun tried to make him feel better, but Chanyeol cut him off immediately.
“I never said ‘Thank you’… I’ve always questioned your opinions… I never listened to you, and I did what I liked… Baekhyun I lived my life like I wanted to, but… you always took responsibility of everything, you always took care of me… I’m sorry I’ve been such a burden on you…” Chanyeol’s gaze fell to the floor with a pained smile, his eyes glistening with tears that stayed unshed, and Baekhyun felt his heart breaking at the sight.
“Hey, hey, hey… where the hell did all this come from Park?” Baekhyun exclaimed back with a low, trembling chuckle. Chanyeol turned to look him in the eyes, something about his look made Baekhyun’s heart cringe with uneasiness, it didn’t seem normal.
“Just… emm… promise me one thing…” He exclaimed and gave a warm smile towards the shorter, who just nodded, staring back in curiosity.
“You’re my best friend Baek… between all of my friends… you’re the one I love and cherish the most… I’d die for you… so promise me that… promise me t
