Chapter 35
Trapped.
It was the 25th of November now, a cold Tuesday night, with only two days left for Chanyeol’s birthday. It was quiet outside, the stars contained a few bright stars, Ji eun was seated in her balcony, gaping at nothing and thinking about the past couple months that has passed.
Every now and then she’d feel guilty, she’d take a seat in her balcony and her mind starts roaming around about what she’d done. She and Kris have gotten closer, she hasn’t seen Chanyeol since last month, and with only two days to go, she should feel excited, but she isn’t.
Ji eun feels suffocated, scared, and bad about herself. She loathes her white lies; she hates how Chanyeol would still stare at her with loving eyes even though she was now befriending his worst enemy behind his back. How did things get so out of control like that? Is it because she was finally free? But with freedom comes responsibilities, she happy but she’s betraying someone’s trust.
Just as she was about to get lost in her self-loathing, a knock snapped her out of her thoughts.
“Come in…” Ji eun exclaimed and looked back at the sky. The person that got in didn’t speak, she got a chair from inside the room and placed it next to Ji eun’s in the balcony; Ji eun didn’t even bother to look at who it was.
“What’s wrong?” a soft voice whispered, Ji eun closed her eyes upon recognizing the sound, it was Yoona. Ji eun heaved a heavy sigh and opened her eyes slowly; debating with herself about the response she should give.
“I saw you from my room… you don’t seem okay Ji eun-ah…” Yoona sighed as well when she got no response from Ji eun. “… You know you could tell me anything, Krystal doesn’t even have to know.” She bit her bottom lip hoping that this would persuade Ji eun. And weirdly, it did. Ji eun turned to look at her with an uneasy expression, which doubled Yoona’s worry.
“I’ve been seeing Kris behind Chanyeol’s back…” She whispered, and Yoona held her breath in shock, she didn’t want to show it on her face though, so she kept quiet and tried to act unfazed as Ji eun continued.
“The problem isn’t just that Chanyeol doesn’t like him… it’s more complicated… we’ve become really close over the past month and… I’m starting to like him better than Chanyeol.” Ji eun was surprised herself that she even said that, but she didn’t mean it the way Yoona understood it. Yoona listened carefully as Ji eun told her about Kris and everything that happened between them, leaving no details out, she told her about how they met, that night they almost did it, how she used to feel about him, and he she feels about him now.
“So you’re leaving Chanyeol for Kris?” Yoona’s voice was a bit shaky, but she cleared and waited for an answer. Ji eun just shook her head and her eyes fell to her lap.
“I don’t like him the way you think, but if… if Chanyeol ever let me choose between leaving him and unfriending Kris… I’d choose leaving him… I just like hanging out with Kris so much you know… he understands me even when I don’t speak… he took me to all those places… my dad loves him. He lets me hangout with him all the time… outside the house Yoona, can you believe this?” Ji eun looked so desperate when she said that, and Yoona’s chest tightened upon seeing that.
“It’s just that… Kris can give me things Chanyeol can’t, at least not now for all I know. I always thought that my dad won’t let me leave this house unless I’m married, but here I am, going out, wandering around the city just because I have this guy right by my side… if this’s all it takes then fine, I’m up for it.”
“Have you thought about what will happen… on the long run I mean?” Yoona then exclaimed, trying to stay passive, she did like Chanyeol and thought that he’d be perfect for Ji eun, but if he doesn’t make her as happy as Kris then Chanyeol has to step away.
“No…” Ji eun shook her head, eyeing Yoona in question. Yoona sighed in frustration and looked away for a second to recollect her thoughts. After a few seconds of silence, she took a deep breath and turned back to face the latter.
“Maybe Kris makes you happy now, because he takes you around like you say… but what happens when… I mean… what if it was the same situation… who’d you prefer more?… would you choose Chanyeol over Kris?” She bit her bottom lip and hoped that the girl was still sane.
“Of course not… I can’t even be with Kris… he’s gay.” And the surprises keep coming one by one. Yoona eyed her curiously, thinking about how gullible she is, how stupid and reckless she’d acting.
“So you befriended your boyfriends least favorite person, who’s actually gay, who takes you everywhere you want because your parents love him so much and trust him to take care of you… and if you were to decide who to choose, you’d choose him over your boyfriend because he takes you around the city while you only see your boyfriend once a month… doeas that sum up the whole situation?” Yoona summed the whole thing up, and upon hearing all that Ji eun gave an easy smile.
“When you say it like that, I sound a bit horrible…”
“There’s no other way to say this Ji eun.” Yoona cut her off sternly, and Ji eun was surprised upon seeing that side of her. Yoona has always been the nice, cute girl, even when she’s angry, she’d just take a deep breath and smile, which was her way of reacting to everything, but seeing how angry she is now, Ji eun was slowly realizing how she messed up. Yoona noticed the flustered look on the latter’s face; she closed her eyes and sighed to calm herself down, then opened then and looked straight into Ji eun’s eyes.
“You have two choices Ji eun… you either wait for the one you love, or you screw up big time because you just wanna have a little freedom…” Yoona stood up as she eyes Ji eun, who loo
