Chapter 03: Wednesday

A Week With Mi

Wednesday

When sunlight finally shone through my window to my face I woke up feeling energized with a huge smile plastered on my face. Getting out of bed on time I repeated my morning routine and got of my house on time. Greeting Mrs. Yoon she waved back at me.

“Taecyeon-ah you are smiling from ear to ear. What’s gotten you so happy?” Mrs. Yoon asks curiously as I shook my head.

“Nothing Mrs. Yoon I got to go to work now. Enjoy the rest of your day!” I called out before running down the street. I couldn’t wait to go to work and see Mi again. When I got to the coffee shop Junsu was smiling at me from behind the cash register.

“Oy Taecyeon how was hanging out with Mi? You did get to hang out with her right?” He asks as I close the latched door behind me and heads towards the back room to my locker. Opening my locker my backpack that I had left was still there along with my apron.

“Yah hyung did you asked our manager for my locker combo?” I asks as Junsu brushed that aside.

“I had to or else how was I supposed to put your apron inside your locker? Someone could had steal your apron for all I know if I didn’t put it here.” Junsu defended himself as I nod my head. “Aish you rude boy don’t even say ‘thank you’”. He complained hitting my head with his knuckles.

“Ah-ah sorry hyung thank you!” I exclaimed as Junsu stops hitting me. “Yah anyways you didn’t answer my question, did you get to hang out with her? Is her name really Mi?” He asks as I tied my apron around my waist and closed my locker door.

“I got to hang out with her and yes her name is Mi.” I replied as Junsu looks at me astonished.

“Wow you’re like a psychic or something.” He said flabbergasted.

“No I’m not and let’s just get back to work hyung.” I said leaving him standing in the locker room before he ran to catch up to me. As I got to the front of the shop Mi was standing in front of the cash register waiting for someone to take her order.

“Oy Taecyeon you take the money and I’ll make her drink.” Junsu order as he heads for the coffee machine.

Standing in front of the cashier register Mi gave me the exact price for her drink. Putting the money inside the cash register I eyed her as she looks away from me. She was fidgeting her fingers though before walking away to take her usual spot in the shop. Raising one of my eyebrows I turn to look at Junsu who was busy making her drink and then back at Mi who was looking out the window. When Junsu was finally done making her drink he made me bring the drink to her. Walking towards her with her drink in my hand I cleared my throat as I got closer signaling that I was coming. She broke her gaze from the window to look at me nodding her head to acknowledge my presence. A bit disappointed of her not saying anything or making eye contact with me I walked back towards the kitchen counter where Junsu was waiting for me.

“So did she say anything?” He asks curious as he watched Mi take a sip of her drink.

“No she didn’t even look at me.” I replied back deflated losing all my energy from today.

“Ehh I’m sure she was just in a hurry to take a sip of my fabulous coffee.” Junsu tried to cheer me up as he turn his attention back towards the kitchen sink to wash the utensils. Heading back towards the cash register ready to take another customer order I took a quick glance Mi’s way with her taking another sip of her drink.

“That would be $3.15 please.” I spoke taking a woman in her early thirties order thirty minutes later. As the woman gave me her cash I thanked her before telling her to wait awhile as Junsu was making her to-go drink. When the woman stepped aside to wait for her drink I look up ready to take another person’s order when Mi stood in front of me. Confuse I watched her slid a piece of paper across the counter in front of me. Raising one of my eyebrows at her I looked down at the piece of paper and read it.

When do you get off?

Reading her note I couldn’t help but chuckle and smile at her as I look back up at her. This morning disappointment vanished completely. She was once again fidgeting her fingers. So that’s why you were so nervous earlier.

“I get off at twelve.” With that answer she nod her head and went back to her seat. Junsu handing the drink to the lady saw the whole thing walks towards me.

“What was that all about?” He asks as I continue to have a smile plaster on my face.

“I think she’s waiting for me to get off of work.” I answer as Junsu looked at Mi who was staring out the window once again and then back at me.

“Really? That’s really surprising. You better not make her cry even though I barely know her she’s still a customer I care about.” He said jokingly before heading back to work. I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself as I turn to look at Mi once again.

When I got off work at twelve Mi was waiting for me outside of the coffeeshop. I smiled at her as she stares back blankly at me.

“So where do you want to go today?” I ask, without answering me she started walking the way towards her house with me following her. When we did finally reach her house the elderly woman was sitting at her front lawn again.

“Ah Mi you’re awfully back late today? Oh hi young man from yesterday!” She greeted Mi and I. I bowed and smiled at her as Mi opened the front of her door, this time though she left the door open waiting for me to come inside. Shock I turn to look at the elderly woman who was also shocked. She waved her hand frantically telling me to go inside and when I did I was greeted with elegant furnitures everywhere. Mi settle down her purse on her kitchen counter before settling her set of keys there as well.

“Woah your house is seriously so elegant.” I complimented as I stood there in her house not knowing what to do. Ignoring me she walks down the hall and into her bedroom closing the door behind her. Leaving me alone in her living room I looked around her house slowly. I was amazed just to be inside her house. There weren’t many pictures hung around her living room, nor the hall, and kitchen. Not much photos was around her house at all. When I finally settle myself down in the living room sofa I noticed on her coffee table was some mails sent to her. Picking one up I read the address with her full name on it. Sun Mi. Just then her bedroom door opens revealing Mi in a new set of home clothes. She wore light washed skinny jeans and a white loose v-neck t-shirt. She headed straight for the kitchen and began opening a cabinet to bring out a glass cup and plate. She began brewing coffee and opened her fridge bringing out a box of refrigerated pastries. Putting some on a dish she settles the plate on a tray along with the cup of coffee she brews. She headed straight towards me with the tray and placed it on the coffee table.  I look at her as she motions her hands for me to drink and eat the food. Obeying I took a few sips and bites of the pastries before turning to look at Mi who was staring at me. Clearing my throat she looks away from my gaze and onto the ground.

“So why did you bring me here Mi?” I ask as I saw her react to me calling her name she looks up to gaze at me. “I mean we don’t have to do anything. We could just sit here in silence.” I offered smiling at her as I made myself comfortable on her sofa. Taking some deep breaths I rest my head on her sofa and closed my eyes. A few minutes of silence later I heard the rustling of her clothes and her weight shifting on the sofa and then something resting on my lap. Opening my eyes I found Mi head resting on my lap with her lying on her right side of her body curled on the sofa. I let out a small chuckle and brought my left hand to her head. “Comfortable now aren’t you?” I asks feeling Mi’s breathe in and out slowly. Eventually though I think the both of us fell asleep that way on her sofa.

When I opened my eyes it was already dark outside and Mi was no longer lying beside me. She was no where to be seen in the living room. Getting up I stretched my body before going to look for her around the house. Walking down the hallway her bedroom door was slightly ajar with lights shining out of her room. Taking a peek her bed lamp was on while Mi was nowhere on her bed. Poking my head inside I found Mi sitting on the ground by the end of her bed crying.

“I’m sorry Seungri-ah. I’m sorry…” Mi said to no one particularly as she brought her head towards her knees and cried. Her shoulder shook violently, back tracking my steps I grabbed my backpack and silently closed her house door behind me. Getting back home for me was easy and once I settle myself on my bed after getting a shower I thought back to Mi. This was the first time I heard Mi talk. Her voice was so sweet but the words that came out were heartbreaking.

Who was Seungri? Why is she apologizing? These thoughts swirl through my mind, maybe I shouldn’t have left her at her house alone. But it felt right to leave her alone and let her cry. Tossing and turning on my bed I finally manage to get some sleep before the next day.
