What Goes Around
Description
They were like single bonds in a linear structure, polar opposites that canceled each other out, but as the reaction progresses, new bonds are formed, inevitably pushing both of them closer together. Think of it as the relationship between receptors and ligands, one does not go without the other, and when you’ve found the perfect lock and key match the reaction is driven forward almost irreversibly.
“I’ll make sure that on the day of graduation, he’s going to ask you to marry him.”
“Ugh, just leave me alone and go back to your Prozac-overdosed buddies!”
“...Kim Junsu, I’ve changed my mind. You got yourself a deal.”
Foreword
Think of me as an observer. I know what you're thinking, and no, I'm not a stalker. I don't obsess over one particular person and follow him/her all day and night. No, I just like watching people during the small moments they think they have the world to themselves. It's amazing what you can discover about a person during those small unguarded moments when they think no one is watching. One small moment that can define them forever in another person's eyes if they happenstance were to see.
And as with all stories, this particular one, is about a girl. I can hear you now, “Hah!” you say, “Isn't it always?” Yes, I must agree, all stories will almost inevitably be about a girl, unless of course, they aren’t, but even then, there will always be a girl in the picture somewhere. So what's so special about this particular girl? Well, there are many things, too many in fact to list out, but if you read on, you will see just exactly how and why she is. True, you will find out about our protagonist, the things she has done, the things she is doing, and even the things she will be doing, as well as the things she hasn't done, and who am I to disappoint you?
And our girl is special, but perhaps, not in the way you're thinking. I can still hear you, you know, “Hah, special.” you say. Well, special is such an overused word, one that had lost its meaning in its timeworn usage, and let me tell you that our girl would be the first to say that she isn't so. Perhaps on a good day, she would admit to being smart, intelligent or even clever if you will, but that would be the only thing she would admit to. Most of the time, you would just hear her say that she is just a girl, plain and simple, but let me be the first to tell you how her choice of words hardly scratch the surface of who she is. I wouldn't call her plain, definitely not ugly, so let's just take her beauty as a given, shall we?
More than her intelligence I think, is that in spite of her being so smart, is the fact that she just as well may be too clueless for her own good.
View me as your blank canvas, the backdrop, the repeating pattern that doesn’t stand out, but merely fits within the shadows of the background layer. I may not be special, but to some extent, without me, your world just wouldn’t be the same. Think about it, for those of you who hate the terms “gray”, “dull”, and “simple.” Let’s take those words out of your vocabulary, and just leave in all the excitement, now what are you going to compare it to? If your excitement becomes the overall norm, it might become boring as well.
So what am I? Think of me as that girl, the one that no one really notices or cares about. The one with the untold story of her being, merely because no one bothered to figure her out.
And as with most stories, there is that one guy. Yeah, yeah, you’re probably going, “Of course...” by now, but hear me out. We’re five years apart...he’s the teacher, I’m the student. “Ugh,” oh don’t you ugh me, as if you’ve never had a cliche in your life. Dear lord, the man is...nearly perfect. If he only he had less of a serious businessman-like stature, and knew how to smile more than once in a lifetime, he would be like a gift from heaven. What’s so special about him? Hell, what’s NOT so special about him...
Okay, so pause on the fangirl mode for a second, and as much as I believe what I’ve said above, it’s not like I would get weak in the knees and nearly die with his presence. If anything, I would talk to him on a more formal level...if we ever had that simple form of communication that is.
In spite of my nightmare-like fangirling, I suppose my life is simple. I’m just trying to get through college, hopefully study abroad, hopefully get married in the end, have a family, etc. I’ve never really had my eyes set on trying to find love, I personally believe it’s just one of those things that you notice it when it’s there, but I suppose I’ve been proven wrong to a large extent, seeing as how everything turned out.
The both of us would like to present a challenge to you readers. Though we did not exactly alternate chapter by chapter, there are certain chunks of the story in which we wrote. See if you can differentiate our writing.
