Goodbye

The Place You Left
Goodbye
shut your eyes and keep kissing

The sun rose up for a new day after a long night.

Waking up and getting herself out of bed, Lina prepared the usual morning routine from cleaning herself up and getting dressed to preparing breakfast before going upstairs to wake her grandma up from her sleep.

Climbing up the stairs, she couldn’t help but feel like something was wrong; a strange feeling was settling in the pit of her stomach and it left her to have chills running up and down her spine. She could sense that something wasn’t right and it was scaring her.

Once she was standing in front of Mrs. Choi bedroom door, she softly knocked on the door before opening it and stepping inside. Making her way to her bed, she could feel the beating of her heart slightly accelerate, which left her to tightly grip onto her cane. By the bedside, she called out to the old lady as she leaned over to softly peck her forehead, only to feel her cold skin against her lips.

Quickly pulling away, she called out to her grandma once again and softly shook her to wake her up but got nothing.

Panic was slowly starting to overtake her, her body gradually trembling from the fear of what she was finding out at the moment.

“G-Grandma? It’s time to wake up…”

Taking a closer look at her, the feeling that was inside of her kept growing; it made her lean in over the woman’s chest, having her ear right above her heart to hear it beat. Lina stayed like this for a moment, thinking that not hearing anything was normal. She backed away and shook her grandma more pressingly, raising her voice to call her out again.

She touched again the old woman’s cold skin and took notice of the pale lips and the slight mottled hands leaving the young one to gulp down her saliva, fear taking over the nerves of her body.

“No, no, no, no, this can’t be happening, this c-can’t b-be happening! Grandma!”

Sudden tears were starting to roll down her cheeks, her gestures becoming more urgent in order to wake herself up from the nightmare she thought she was in as she started yelling and violently shaking Mrs. Choi to wake her up.

Realizing that there wasn’t any progress at all, she backed away, shock in her eyes and stood motionless in her spot, her eyes blankly staring at the resting body in front of her, from a distance.

Feeling something queasy in her stomach, she stumbled her way out of the bedroom before falling down on her knees and throwing up right over the wooden floor. She tried to breathe properly but distress was clouding everything around her, leaving her to hear nothing nor to see anything else but the truth hitting her right in the face.

She shakily got back up, gripping onto the stair rail before clumsily making her way back down, letting her body guide her with her mind frozen. The body trembling, her clumsy hand picked up the phone and let her fingers dial the emergency number. When the line started to ring, she placed the phone over her ear and waited until it picked up; once it was answered, she could barely voice out anything, leaving the person on the other line to repeat again.

The fact that a mere whisper crying out for help was enough to send the alarm on the other side.

The warm weather of the day came in strong contrast with the cold environment of the present place.

There was no noise except for the faint wind that was peacefully blowing and the chanting of the priest that was saying his prayers.

Standing by her grandmother’s grave, Lina was still as she stared at the coffin that was hovering above the hole in the ground. This past week was the most cruelest way to remind her that she was left all by herself, that she had lost her family and that there wasn’t any way that things would get better.

At the darkest hours of the day, she would even have that mindset to just give up everything and join her dead family but she was always held back, not having the courage to actually go through those insane thoughts when she was this close to committing the act.

She hasn’t eaten nor slept for those seven days; her eyes were red and swollen from the tears and her skin as white as a ghost. There wasn’t any life inside of her anymore and she couldn’t care less.

She had lost everything.

She was completely torn apart and there was no way to mend her back, not that it was something she cared about anyways.

She didn’t realize that the priest had stop talking, giving his last condolences before he left. All by herself at the moment, she still wasn’t able to look anywhere else but down, still praying that her grandmother would get out of that coffin and go back to how things were before.

The wind was starting to blow harder, the sky becoming gray with the clouds hiding the sun, a hint that rain was about to fall.

Perfectly fitting for the mood she was feeling.

Silent tears started to fall followed by the first rain drops. Feeling them hit her skin, she slowly lifted her head up to look at the sky before looking back down, her eyes glancing on the other three graves that were in front of her before setting them back to the most recent one.

She stifled her sobs, wanting to hold everything inside of her but the moment she felt someone hold her trembling hand, the warmth caught her attention. She looked down onto it and recognized Mir’s hand interlacing his fingers with hers as he gave a light squeeze.

And then, she suddenly broke down.

All the pain she has been feeling for the past week caught up to her in just one single shot, overwhelming her in the most brutal way. He couldn’t help but have his own tears in the corner of his eyes as he looked at her, feeling defeated and completely helpless. He has never seen her so broken up like this and it was tearing him apart.

Her sobs were becoming louder, her breathing difficult as her body trembled so roughly it left her weak enough as she couldn’t stand on her feet anymore and fell down on the ground, wrapping her arms around herself as she leaned in over, crying out the endless sorrow that was lingering inside of her.

He got down on his knees and wrapped his arms around her, resting her head on his shoulders. She was holding onto him so tightly, she was afraid that his presence was just an illusion, enough to make her think that she was actually going crazy. The sight made him cry as his eyes landed on the tombstone where the date of Mrs. Choi’s death was written bringing him back to when he had dreamt about her the night before her death.

He was brought out of his thoughts when he saw that she had pulled herself out of his embrace, her body suddenly leaning over the edge of the open hole as the coffin was starting to lower. He had quickly gotten up and stopped her. He was met with cries of denial and agony as she tried to push herself away still not believing the reality she was going through.

Strong within his embrace, she eventually stopped fighting, giving up once the casket was completely out of sight leaving her stare dull, no emotions in her eyes.

The rain was pouring down on them but it didn’t seem to phase any of the two.

She had fallen back on the wet grass, watching the dirt falling to fill up the space. Mir was standing behind her, clueless on what to do next. Should he hold her or give her space? He didn’t know what to do and it angered him.

He looked to the other three tombstone, seeing the names of the rest of her family. It hurt him even more to know that she had gone through this too many times and yet he was never there to support her. Even today; he was here and yet, he couldn’t do anything.

“Why do people always leave m-me… I can’t even hold on to my own family…”

Her cries had died down, leaving her pale lips to speak up by themselves, body and mind completely separated.

She hasn’t spoken loudly but Mir still heard her words. He crouched down on his knees and hugged her from behind, tightly wrapping his arms around her. Her back eventually leaned against his chest without having her eyes looking elsewhere but in front of her.

“I’m here…”

“No you’re not… You left me too… I’m all by myself.”

He knew what she meant. He clenched his jaw and tightened his hug as he hid his face in the crook of her neck, holding in his tears. He hasn’t been the good friend he promised he would be and with how things had ended between them just two weeks ago, it was hard to think about how he could win her back.

He pecked her right behind her ear as he went to hold her hands, interlacing their fingers together while enclosing her even further in his arms. She closed her eyes and hid her face in his neck, her tears falling down continuously even though she couldn’t voice out her cries anymore.

The rain grew heavier, drenching both of them and even at that, they haven’t moved, too drowned in their own pain to care about the bad weather. It came to the point that she was even ignoring the throbbing from her bad knee, not caring if it was worsening.

“Wh-what am I going to do now… I have nothing left…”

He didn’t say anything, not wanting to make things worse and pick up another argument. He only listened to her and felt his heart squeeze at every desperate verdict that was coming out of . Once she stopped talking, he noticed that she had fallen asleep. He softly caressed her cheek and placed a small kiss on her forehead before picking up her cane and lifting her up in his arms, walking back to where the other members were as they had patiently been waiting for him.

“Is she alright?”

“She just fell asleep. It took a lot out of her…”

“It’s understandable.”

“If you guys want, you can go back home, I’ll stay with her for a while.”

“We’ll stay at your parents if you need anything.”

“Mhmm, thanks.”

Separating their ways, he brought her back to her house. Once inside, he quietly gasped at the mess that had covered the place, making it almost unrecognizable. From the living room to the kitchen, walking to her bedroom, it was also a mess with everything out of order. He brought her closer to him before gently laying her down on her bed; he pulled away and watched her, his eyes slowly noticing the physical change.

From the apparent bags under her eyes to her sunken cheeks, to her pale lips and skin. She had lost her color and the sight broke his heart. Pulling away, he walked out of her room and scanned the area. Dishes were piling up in the sink, papers were scattered across the kitchen table as well as on the coffee table from the living room, dust was filling the wooden shelves on the wall as well as the cupboards of the kitchen.

And as he turned back to look at her bedroom, clothes were scattered and destroyed books and papers were everywhere, and he even noticed the pieces of glass lying on the floor from the broken mirror that he had once made her stand in front of.

He went towards the bathroom and took a couple of towels to dry himself and brought the other one for her, gently drying her too so as not to wake her up.

Once he was done, he lied down next to her and pulled her against him, his arms strongly wrapped around her. He tenderly her back, her face nuzzled in the crook of his neck and her arms lazily placed between their close bodies. He sensed her move and noticed that she made herself more comfortable within his hold, easing him up in the process.

One kiss on her cold cheek, he closed his eyes without stopping his hand movement on her back, trying to soothe her the best he could.

‘I’m here for you Lina… You don’t have to say goodbye to me anymore…’

Chapter 3: I love the font of this, I also like the size as well. It's very nice on the eyes and unique as well, pretty.<3 As for your chapter, I'm really enjoying all of this backstory. I find myself getting more and more into the story mainly because of the past and how well it is detailed. I'm starting to get to know more and more about Lina and why she is the way she is, which I love. Knowing about the character makes the story all the more personal and intimate. Great job as usual, dollface.<3
