The Transient Nature of Flowers
Description
PROLOGUE
December stole the breath from her lungs.
Two weeks before my birthday, the sky shook out a glorious smattering of snow right onto my grandmother’s beloved garden. Slightly overweight and unwieldy in my growing body, I had gone outside to look at the lacey frost that had heralded my arrival eight years before.
“That garden is my diary,” she’d often wink and whisper over lemon wedges and warm tea, “the most secret one in the world.” I never really understood the grand genius of this arrangement until I was well into my teens and struggling valiantly to maintain actual written records of my thoughts. Because if the garden was her diary, then the flowers of course, were her words.
And flowers speak in a language all their own.
Foreword
So I'm back, sort of. I haven't written and posted anything on this site for almost two years now, and I am seriously sorry about that. I'll see if I get motivation to finish my old stories, though honestly if I did, I'd have to rewrite them all from scratch. I'm a junior in college now, and my style and perception's changed drastically. But before I do any of that, I need to first remember how to write fiction. Because sweet baby Jesus am I out of practice. So, my solution is to ease myself back into it by writing for contests.
This is my first one (I'm doing two more as well, so keep an eye out): http://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/736617
Just something that seemed low pressure and fun. The author seems really cool and her stories are of good quality in my opinion. Check her out, yo. (Dem Big Bang stories. Mmm.)
Inspired by that quote up top, as well as The Little Prince, which, even now, is an endless source of joy and inspiration for me. And thank you to my best friend/secret lesbian lover, Jennifer, for editing and letting me bounce ideas off you.
Also, I reference several different plants and flowers in the story. Here's the website I used for their meanings, so that everyone's on the same page: http://www.ecbdflowerstore.com/108085.php
***WARNING: Slight cursing and angst. Please don't steal the OCs or the idea, yadayadayada.***
