A baby is a little bit of heaven on earth.

They waited nine long months for this moment. The moment in their lives that signified the undying love and dedication for each other. The moment that began with two people, but ended with three; a small little life form marked the beginning of the next chapter in their lives.

Seoyoon was exhausted; having given birth just moments prior was enough to diminish all available energy in her body. However, she was determined to lay her eyes upon and cradle her precious baby girl, the little being that shared her flesh and blood and would forever carry her heart. She waited with baited breath and with as much patience as she could muster while the nurses cleaned off her baby girl and ensured everything was as it should be. Seoyoon glanced to her side, attempting to focus on something else for the time being, and noticed the blank face of her husband.

“What are you thinking about?” Her voice was only a whisper, but it was enough to entice Woojin out of his robotic trance.

“Sorry, I think I’m still in shock. We have a little girl! We are a family now!” He chuckled lightly at the end, but the admiration, love, and devotion was clear in his eyes. He was ready for this moment and like Seoyoon, he will treasure this creation of life forever.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but I’m sure your daughter would love to be held by her parents.” The nurse was quiet entering the room, but Seoyoon and Woojin immediately felt the innocent presence radiating from their daughter. There was only one problem though: they didn’t yet have a name for this new addition to the world.

As the nurse gently handled the wrapped bundle to her mother, Seoyoon glanced at her husband with teary eyes. From making eye contact, both knew what the other was thinking: this was easily the best moment in their lives. Placing her gaze back down to their healthy daughter, Seoyoon couldn’t help but continue to cry; silent rivers flowed down her face and landed softly in the warm blankets that held their baby.

“She is so precious. What should we name her?” Seoyoon didn’t for even a second peal her eyes away from the form she was cradling in her arms, but knew that her husband was thinking hard about the perfect name.

“How is the name Sunny? She will be ours and anyone’s light on a dark day.”

“It’s perfect.”

The family was able to leave the next day, having stayed in the hospital overnight for observation. Woojin was driving everyone home safely, but allowing his mind to replay the events of the previous day. He was in a peaceful bliss, with the sun glowing brightly and promising nothing but good fortune. Glancing quickly at his wife and newborn child, he couldn’t help but allow his face to morph into a smile that held nothing short of admiration. Seoyoon and Sunny were sleeping peacefully, catching up from the exhaustion of yesterday, but also preparing for the exhaustion that was still to come.

Woojin finally pulled into their driveway, shut the car off, and grabbed everything he could before gently shaking his sleeping wife. Sunny was cradled in his arms, and he was content to hold her, but as soon as Seoyoon peeled back her eyelids and took notice of their house looming in front of them, she quickly took Sunny from her husbands’ arms and made her way into the home.

Sunny was still sleeping peacefully when everything was finally settled, the parents determining that the little girl would be a mild natured child and won’t be one to cause too many disturbances. They smiled at the thought, but also thought of everything they would now able to bestow on the growing human. Everything they will be able to teach her, show her, and help her with. They will be able to show her the world, but of course still allow her to discover things on her own. That was the best part about growing up after all.

It was late in the night when Seoyoon and Woojin were finally able to calm their over excited bodies and turn in for the night. Sunny had already been fed and bathed, and once again she was sleeping peacefully in the pure white crib specially made for her by the hands of her parents. Despite the comfort and serene state Sunny was in, Seoyoon and Woojin couldn’t help but to check on her one last time before they themselves officially went to bed.

Silently padding down the halls, they pushed open the door before continuing their movements to the edge of the crib.

“How could we be so lucky to have this little bundle of joy ours?” Seoyoon talked in a hushed voice, but Woojin was able to hear her soft whisper all the same.

“There was no luck here, just love. The love between you and I that will now be forever shared with our little girl Sunny. We finally have a family and I couldn’t be happier.”

Seoyoon just hummed in response, she was too preoccupied with placing yet another kiss on her child’s forehead. They said their goodnights for the second time that night, and with satisfied hearts and minds they were able to finally accept the sleepiness that was mounting within their bodies. They slept peacefully that night, the only thought being of the new life that awaited them.
