Chapter Two

“Can you repeat what you just said oppa?”

A voice cautiously said on her phone, but her grip to it was strong enough to prove that she was anything but calm.

“Mom and Dad want to see you?” Leo said innocently on the phone in a low whisper.

“And?”

“ We’re going to have dinner,” He continued but this time with an even lower sound.

“With?” Seolhyun said while gritting her teeth.

“The Lee’s “ Leo finally squeaked out this part.

“Which is not Hongbin or Ken so what’s the meaning of this?”

“is it not them?How do you know? … and We’re eating dinner?”

Snap and all her sanity loss.

“LEO OPPA, IT’S ANOTHER MARRIGE PROPOSAL FOR GOD SAKE’S” Seolhyun finally exploded.

Truth to be told, Seolhyun parents, especially her mother had been searching bachelor from many elites family as a suitor to their daughter even when she’s young to strengthen their company.

Sure, they could make Leo to be the other case, but the anti-social boy has vowed to never has any relation ship once again with any girl other that Seolhyun which made perfect sense for his office to be filled with all male worker. Not that’s he’s gay of course, than that would be a big problem.

Besides, after what happened to his last and final relationship as he speaks, his parents can’t force him into any kind of relationship no matter what they do for now which lead Seolhyun into the perfect wedding candidates.

“Aishh Oppa, what should I do?  I don’t want to sit in a fancy restaurant and let the adults cooed and awed me with their son for being a perfect match when I only known him for an hour” Leo could almost hear her panicky voice in the background and sighed to himself.

To make it worst, Leo couldn’t attend this dinner since he had to do an important presentation which he knew his father has set him up to so that he wouldn’t ruin this chance like he always do. Just for times like that Seolhyun was very grateful for her older brother protectiveness for her.

“I’m sorry Hyun-ah, I tried talking to them but you know how mom and dad is, especially mom, and I can’t go away from this presentation, our biggest share holder will be attending this one.” Leo desperately said which made Seolhyun feel bad for him.

Leo has always been the best brother he always had and sometimes even she herself felt that she was leaning too much on him even when she didn’t want to say it out loud, she needs him especially in this.

“Why can’t they ever stop this, You’re too young to get married anyway” Leo said as he vented his complain towards his parents.

He could hear the other line sighed in agreement.

“Can I just not attend this?” Seolhyun suggested.

“I wish you can but I heard that mom has told the guards to make sure you stayed at home before the dinner tonight since she knew I’m going to suggest this sooner or later” Leo said with another sigh, their parents are just too persistent in this.

“Can’t the boys come with me?”

“I checked all of them but sadly, no. Ravi went to Bali this week, Hyuk was having lessons until late, Hongbin was busy arranging his brand new chocolate release and I don’t know what Ken’s doing but his secretary told me that he have an event to attend to tonight” Leo explained

“ I’m doomed this time” Seolhyun wailed on the line which made Leo soften and sighed while he shut his eyes.

“ I’m sorry Hyun-ah, I’ll come there as soon as I can but in the meantime, just go to the dinner and act uninterested, maybe they’ll give up if you do that” Leo suggestively said.

“Easy for you to say, you’re rarely interested in something and I’m not a good in acting. Remember that performance I did in seventh grade”

“yes, but that was before you watched Kim Soo Hyun right, I’m sure you know how to act a little” Leo desperately tried to reason with his stubborn sister.

“I thought you hate him since I likes him”

“Does that even matter now” Leo snapped at her in annoyance.

Seolhyun sighed “Fine, I’ll go but you have to came right away oppa” She finally agreed which brings Leo a sigh of relieve even when he himself didn’t even want to make his sister go.

“That’s a good girl. Dress up nicely but not too revealing okay. No short skirt, n short dress and definitely not the pink mini dress that you bought in Paris last month” Leo said with seriousness in his face.

Seolhyun managed to let out a chuckled as his brother annoying side has returned but at least she was grateful for him to be her brother.

“I’m going to hang up now, I have another meeting in 15 minutes. I’ll call you later little sis” Leo said before the line went dead.

Another sigh escapes her tiny cherry lips as Seolhyun set her phone down to her king sized bed while laying on her belly.

Why won’t her parent’s stops with this ridiculous marriage thing? She’s still 16 and still in her first year of university and her parents expected her to made a family and have child of her own. What happened to Teenage freedom here?

But then she knew this is one of the consequences of being an elite. She was bound to have this kind of fate anyway. Leo was just lucky that he didn’t have to do this now for his own reasons but she knew sooner or later, probably after she was walking to her parents house carrying 2 babies named Chaekyung and Hyunjae that she didn’t even knew if they’re adopted or not.

Her mom was the most excited when they’re talking about this marriage thing. She was married at the age of 18 which explains why she was younger that any of the adult here. But at least she married the man she loved though and fortunately, he happens to be an elite, which immediately brought approval from her grandparents.

Still, she couldn’t help to wonder about her ‘date’ this time. She immediately cringed at the thought of her last date, which ends up with a passionate kissing of the Honda heirs and his ex girlfriend in front of her very own face, during their date if I must add.

 

Whatever, I’ll just tell him I’m not interested and then poof, we’re not married

Right on 7 sharp, a limousine came into view to the lobby entrance and the Jung heiress stepped down in her 3-inch heels with a matching long white maxi dress to compliment her gorgeous curves. Leo oppa or not, she still needs to look at least presentable to the elite’s family.

Grabbing her diamond clutch, she walked gracefully to the hotel’s restaurant, receiving bows from some employee that happens to know her.

“This way Ms. Jung” A waitress dressed in an oriental dress directed her to the VIP room in the neatly decorated Chinese restaurant. Her heels clicked with the red tiles in front of the door as she nervously played with her fingers, glancing at the door.

The waitress bowed to her before leaving her way as Seolhyun took a deep breath, grabbing the handle of the door before opening it.

Just one peek at the whole guess chatting in the round table made gaped open in shock. The table seemed pretty normal though. Just two couple of elite adults that rule the entire Korean business and one very familiar boy who happens to be her childhood friends by the last name of ahjumma written there.

“K-Ken?” Seolhyun finally blurted out, successfully grabbing the attention of all five pairs of eyes on her.

Mrs. Jung who happen to spots her fastest, beamed at how beautiful her daughter is and waved her hands with much enthusiasm “Oo Hyunnie Dear” She called with a large smile plastered onto her face.

Seolhyun eyes budged out to her mother than to Ken. The poor boy could only look uncomfortably under her intense gaze that was Cleary written ‘what is the meaning of this you ahjumma’.

Ken could only desperately ‘replied’ her gaze with his facial action before giving a convincing smile to his mother.

“Oo welcome Seolhyun dear” Ken’s mother or better known as Mrs. Lee greeted her arrival. Unlike his excited and over the top mother, Mrs. Lee was the type that prefer to stay calm in any situation, making her look more elegant and sophisticated when she already, the complete opposite of his son that was nervously chewing onto his lips unconsciously.

“Ahh, Yes Hello, Mrs. Lee, how are you doing?” Seolhyun replied, with no other choice, which was replied by a small grateful smile from Mrs. Lee before she motioned her hand to the seat beside her.

“I’m doing good with my art skills. You should join me some other time Seolhyun-ah” The later replied with a tinkling laughter as Seolhyun sat rather uncomfortably beside the Lee’s for the first time in her live.

“Oo, you should Seolhyun-ah, Mrs. Lee Painting are really nice and you should learn a thing or two from her you know” Her mother gave a reply for her and the adults response with a light laughter.

Seolhyun could only meekly nodded at her mother and forced a genuine smile before she locked her eyes with the man in the opposite of the table. Ken squirmed silently under her intense glare before he wiped out the phone hiding in one of the pocket of his suit.

Seconds later, a clear ringing sound came from Seolhyun’s clutch and the heiress immediately grabbed her phone out and read onto the incoming message.

From: Ken-Juhmma

To: Seolhyun

I swear I don’t know anything about this Seolhyun -ah. My mom was just asking me to join her for dinner but I didn’t know she was trying to match me with you >.<

 

*Seolhyun? He never calls me that unless things got quite serious*

“Well Hyunnie dear” Her mother suddenly spoke which brought the heiress to snap back and hid her phone back to her clutch before giving her attention to her mother. “Mrs. Lee and I was just randomly talking one day about how great it is if we could be one family” She continued.

Seolhyun’s eyes widened at her mother’s words. The worst thing that was about to happen that night has came and she could only send a warning signal to Ken, which the later was sending the same thing also.

 

*No, No don’t say that, every time you say that it always mean…*

 

“And I think we could make that come true if you know, we’re related to each other, by marriage that is” Mrs. Jung exclaimed with a happy and excited voice as both Mrs. Jung and Mrs. Lee beamed in delight.

Soojung could only force a smile to Mrs. Lee but in the inside she was freaking out.

Why you asked?

It’s true that she have experience this a lot of time in her past due to her parent unknown from where immense interest on finding their daughter a suitable man. All those time, she would just go on with the flow with Leo together and then politely rejected the heir whenever they’re alone on a date.

However, this time it was a bit different.

You all could see it in a way where it would be quite easy to pass this one since Ken’s her best friend right. But you know drama and stories doesn’t go well without any obstacle in it.

And the first obstacle goes by his family wealth, according to the family wealth survey in 2014 that she didn’t even bother to read but was forced to listen by his father, The Lee’s got into the second place with Kia, right on top of her family which lands at the third place.

And why is it an obstacle my good friend you asked, well just like its said, Ken’s family apparently has the higher advantage in the industry and once they’ve taken a liking to a family, that family would have to maintain a good relationship with them or else, down the business hole they go and apparently, rejecting on the heir of Kia is one of the reason.

Second, The other party, apparently or rather secretly holds a special relationship with an ordinary girl which was not listed on the ten top family, she didn’t even fit with any of the elite with only a part time job in a café and also a librarian in a small library with small earnings. With the Lee’s being so strict about their reputation, Ken had not choice but to kept his relationship a secret with only the VIXX boys and Seolhyun to know.

And now why again would you ask me this would be an obstacle rather as a reason to break the unwanted marriage?

Sooner or later, his family would pick another suitable heiress for him and maybe, that girl would’ve fallen head over heels for him and agreed to the whole marriage in the future. At least, that’s what I had in mind. Maybe I should write a chapter about that In the future..

Okay scratch that, moving one. Since Seolhyun has no more feeling that a friend for Ken, she is not a problem for their relationship but then, things might change when they change their status as an ex-best friend slash coming soon newlyweds.

In conclusion, I say scratch obstacle number two since it’s getting nowhere in this conflict and let’s just assume the first obstacle there as the main problem.

Seeing no reaction from the kids, the adult look at each other before letting out yet another happy laugh chiming in the air. “I think they’re a bit shock yeobo,” Mrs. Lee said after the laughter died down.

“Why don’t we let them have some time together, you know to get to know each other” The later said. “But they’re best friend right?” Mrs. Lee piped up.

“Ex best friend that is” Mrs. Jung replied

Seolhyun’s radar began to detect something as she responds her eyes to the source, only to find Ken almost to the point of screaming with his eyes. She replied him with the same expression but sadly; they were caught in the act.

“Jaehwan dear, why are you making such face?” His mother blinked at her son’s ‘screaming’ face which earned a too much exaggerated laughter from the laughter, nervousness could be sensed from his voice.

“I thought I already told you about this yesterday” Mrs. Lee continued and this time, Seolhyun’s eyes bugled out from her eyes as she channel every once of her angry aura with a single glare to Ken who looked shocked as ever.

“Y-you did tell me mother? R-really” he stammered

“Yes Jaehwan, yesterday, when you came home at night. I did tell you that we’re meeting the Jung’s to discuss about your engagement. Don’t you remember? You even say that you agreed on this” Mrs. Lee explained to his son, rather confused and Ken could even sense the glare of the person sitting in front of him to be as murderous as ever.

Then, a light flick hits his brain.

 

*Shoot, I was drunk yesterday after drinking with the boys*

 

He mentally slapped his head for being drunk at such crucial moment where if he didn’t, this whole mess wouldn’t happen and he wouldn’t even dream of agreeing to marry his only girl best friend with another person he loves.

“Mom” A voice brought his to reality, rather in a harsh and furious tone as he dared to lift his face up to her face, almost imagining hot airs to flew out of her ears.

“Can Ken and I have a moment please” She said, forcing herself to sound as sweet as possible, but to Ken, the act didn’t count.

But of course, both parties agreed to let them have some times alone to what they said, get a little bonding time together before you walk the aisle but maybe that’s a little dramatic so let’s skip that.

Now we face the scene where the two best friends bicker and nag or rather one furious heiress to nag all her way through her yesterday drunker best friend that brought her into this mess.

“GOD OPPA I can’t be- I just can’t- I arghh” Seolhyun finally threw her hands up in the air, a sign that she have once again given up with her best friend as the later could only shamelessly stared at the floating grass while he reflect on the stupid things that he does.

“Come on Hyunnie, I was drunk yesterday so it’s not entirely my fault too that I can’t control it” Ken reasoned with her while pouting, hoping to ease her anger.

“So whose fault is it if it wasn’t yours?” Seolhyun snapped at him rather coldly.

“Umh..umh… Aaa…aaa I know. It’s Ravi’s fault, he took me out for a drink yesterday, yeah that’s it” Ken replied, with a nod in the end.

Seolhyun stared at him blankly. “Fat chances Oppa, Ravi went to Bali yesterday in the afternoon” she replied which brought a flicker of surprise to the opposite side’s.

“Oo, I forgot, I think Hongbin’s there too” Ken shamelessly continued.

“Being Busy with his new chocolate showcase, yeah sure he can spend some time with you for a drink” Seolhyun sarcastically retorted back to him.

“Hyuk dragged me there?” Ken gave it his last shot, but it was a pretty bad decision to do.

“Wow, Baby Hyuk’s all grown up now” And that was unexpected ladies and gentleman but it did brought relief to Ken, happy that he managed to escape his doom today. But hey, I did say that it was a pretty bad decision to do and let the beast out woman.

 

“FOR GOD’S SAKE KEN OPPA, HYUK IS A MINOR!!!” She shouted at him, oppa or not, nothing can ever be in the way of a mad Seolhyun, not even her hot and chic 180 cm tall Oppa at home.

“So could you just stop lying and explain to me what happen back then?” Seolhyun breathed in and out while eyeing him. “Make one more lie and I swear, you’ll I’ll break your favorite chopper doll” Seolhyun threatened while holding onto her waist

“The pink one or the blue one?” Ken asked, rather unneeded or innocently annoying in this point of stage

“THE . PINK . ONE” Seolhyun spelled out each word.

“So last night I was out from the absolutely boring meeting that you can’t even imagine how boring it is, almost to the point that I wanted to die of boredom” Ken managed a small laugh but gulped later on after seeing yet another murderous glare directed towards him. “Then when I got out, my co workers from the office asked me to have a little drink with them. AT first I thought that I’ll just be having a little drink and goes of but then, they kept on pouring soju all over my glass and urged me to drink further and then there’s this event that you get one more bottle for free if you purchase for more that 5 bottles of soju and they asked me to drink it and I drink it and I got drunk that I didn’t even my mother talk about her new dress that she bought which in my opinion looks a little bit old for her. Man, is that antique or what. But anyway, then she started talking about how great it is If I have a wife and then I don’t know what happen but then she mentioned you and told me that she wanted me to marry you and I say okay since I’m pretty much drunk and laughing but my mom seemed to didn’t even notice it so since sometimes she’s a little bit dense” Right after he was finished, a large amount of air intake flowed right through his nose as he breathed hardly.

 

“So in conclusion, It’s Jung In’s fault” Ken finished his little story with a conclusion to Seolhyun who just gaped at him.

“Well first of all” She said after regaining much of her lost sanity.” It’s not that Jung In guy’s fault but it’s yours. You drunkenly told your mother that you agreed about marrying me at that point and did Jung In caused that?” she outrageously said to him.

“Well he did ask me to catch some drinks together”

 

“AND SECONDLY” Seolhyun continued, effectively zipping his mouth. “You, better than anyone else should know that a heir of the second wealthiest family shouldn’t drink and get drunk. Do you want me to repeat what happen to Uncle Lee after he got drunk in a middle of 2 am?” Seolhyun raised her eyebrows while Ken cringed at the memory.

“Alright, I’m sorry okay. I was just drunk and I didn’t even knew what slipped between my tongue.” Ken sighed, a sign that he has surrender.

 

“Well, now we can’t do anything about this. I’m stuck as your fiancée by now and you better prepare on what Leo oppa’s going to say about this” She sulked.

 

“Hey, It’s not like you, you know, to give up so easily. We can think of a way to cancel this arranged marriage together” Ken chided her.

“How? You’re the second wealthiest family in all Korea and it’s almost impossible to say that I rejected you as my future husband with the drunken agreement you made last night. That would even make my family name even worse.” Seolhyun sighed as she buried her face into her white dress.

“Well if I’m second, there must be a first one right?” Ken suddenly piped out.

For once, Seolhyun lifted her head and stared at him with a flicker of surprise in her head but then her head deflated. “What’s the point anyway. It’ll be an arranged marriage for me once again” Seolhyun sighed. “Well, at least I’m free from this” Ken muttered but was caught by Seolhyun, receiving yet his third glare of the night.

“I’m kidding. Whoa, girl you better stop glaring at me tonight” Ken exclaimed.

 

“You sounded like Ravi oppa,” Seolhyun said but rather in a desperate tone.

“Aww come one, Hyunnie, what it you find out that this first guy was a total charmer. Maybe he has the looks of Kim Soohyun” Ken said.

“Not happening Oppa” Seolhyun said as she folded her arms onto the railings in the gazebo.

“Why does your parent always wanted you to get married as soon as possible anyway? It’s not like you’re going to be ugly after you’re over 20” Ken protested.

“They said that it’s for them to strengthen their company. You know my father, he always wanted things to be bigger and marriage with your family would brought our company to an even higher place” Seolhyun explained.

“Yeah I know, but isn’t it a bit weird, you said that your parents even set you up with some heir from a company lower then theirs and if I’m not mistaken, isn’t it only my family that has been so far over yours family?” Ken asked

Seolhyun furrowed her eyebrow and lets her hold onto the railing. “Come to think of it, I think it’s true too.” Seolhyun tapped her chin.

Meanwhile, Ken who was busy with his phone the whole time they were talking finally snuck before letting out a long sigh and placed himself onto the railings.

“Maybe but there’s one thing we know for now” He said which brought the later attention towards him.

“The first is out of your future husband list” He said as he extended his phone towards her.
