" It’s waking up "

"Be careful, it can be aggressive" deep male voice warned.

Darkness, voices,  it's cold ...

Number 2482 woke up blinking his sleepy eyes. Hes gaze wandered around the room and viewed everything curiously. The room was full of doctors dressed up in respirators and green robes.. They gathered around the bed slowly and whispered something to each others. Several cords came from metallic machines to 2482’s body. His hands and feet were full of wires and spikes. In the monitors and screens were long and endless series of numbers that appeared in with rapid speed.

"Can you move your fingers ?" One of the doctors asked behind the respirator.

2482 stared blankly at the gray concrete ceiling and declined his fingers gently. The doctor nodded and wrote something up in folder that he was carrying .

2482 declined his fingers over and over again.

He did it because he could. He closed his hand to a fist and squeezed really hard. All of sudden the machines started to do shrill and loud beep sound. 2482 released his grip frightened. He was like a little innocent baby in a grown up man 's body.

" Be careful. You're not ready yet ."

He did'nt understand what the doctor meant. Inside his head was so many words and things what he wasn’t able to form into proper sentences. He understood when doctors spoke to him, but he couldn't give answer back . It was frustrating .

Doctors measured  2482’s length of the limbs and muscles with strange instruments . After each measurement they wrote something to the folders and nodded with satisfaction .

" full height 175 cm. Undersized compared to others, but he's agile. It may be helpfull in the future”, doctors said and pointed at 2482.

"Is he able to sit yet?"

" Muscle cells haven't grown enough" someone was trying to say , but 2482 thought it was order and he had already taken support from hand rails of the bed and push himself up.

Somewhere inside him was a sudden loud thud, like someone had hit hard metal apsis with a hammer. Doctors rushed to 2482 and forced him lie down. They began to attach disconnected cords back fast as they could, but they entangled all the time.  

What are you doing? Get off me!

2482 got scared and tried to yank doctors away from him.

Thud. Another thud. Scent of smoke floating in the air. 2482 accidentally hit one doctor in the face and he fell back holding his bleeding nose. 2482’s view became blurry and he felt dizzy.

" Switch him off! Now! For God's sake switch power off! We need no more damages!" someone yelled from center of the chaos.

2482 saw how doctor's hand moved on a power key and knocked out. He could still hear machines beeping sound fading away.

20.8.4507 - Sonya

The hall was full of a legal age girls. Nubile girls. It was the duty of everyone to step into an arranged marriage at the age of 18-20 . There was no escape and no case with compromises. Arranged marriage was part of a society’s formed peace upholding system. They see arranged marriage as good solution.

" Arranged marriage advances peace and order. "

Once a year our government organized a matching test for youngsters. It was dividual for girls and boys. Eminent society quarters are organizing all our society’s nubile youngsters and creates perfect couples of them for each others.

The aim is to create couples that completes each others. It's like a big puzzle, but the pieces are people and their personal data, characters and things they are interested in. This is how perfect couple is created.

Marriage is tried to fulfill at the age of 18, but there isn’t always suitable spouse after first test. Marriage can be transferred to 20 year, but Sonya has’nt  heard of anyone who haven’t got through after second time.

Sonya thought wich of these is worse. Forcing  to marry a stranger, or staying without spouse . Future married couple will meet first time at the altar. It’s the situation when you have to accept all the long ago written rules and say I do when your soul is screaming endlessly no!  You are forced to love.

Couple is not given time to know each other before wedding, because there is plenty time for that after ceremony. A full lifetime. Information-thirsty couples (usually just girls) are given mercifully a small file what may contain spouse's name and a picture.

Sonya sat on cold iron seat and tried to put all her focus on school books. Drown her thoughts on something other than approaching sorting. Next to her sat red-haired girl who swirled hair incessantly around her finger. Sonya lifted up her gaze and noticed that every girl looked nervous in their own way. One tapped his feet against the floor giving a rythm and other just shake and stared at the dull floor. Sonya did not know what to feel. She was kinda excited, but fear grave her heart.  

"Ji sonya " white suited woman called from the door and Sonya finally stood up and  threw school books back to her blue backpack. She was just rushing at the door where woman glance clock and looked really impatient, when someone pulled her jacket's sleeve and said: " I think this is yours". Red haired girl next to her held a small dark blue stone on her palm. Sonya grabbed it quickly and dropped in bottom of her pockets. It was her lucky gem and she wanted to keep it as a secret. There was no evidence of its effectiveness, but Sonya felt more confident when she could feel the weight of the gem in her pocket. Woman at the door gave a sign to follow her and they left the hall. Sonya could feel the curiosity stares of other girls on her back.

They walked quickly along the white painted aisle bypassing door after door . Sonya tried to listen any voices from the rooms, but there was just deep silence and their footsteps echoing from walls. Eventually, they arrived at the end of the hallway and the woman escorted Sonya in small room.

The room was very dark . Little lights were flood into ceiling and they looked like a stars, Another weak source of light came from the walls that were like giant aquarium, without fishes. In the middle of the room was a shiny table and under it was a metal stool.

" Good luck ", woman whispered before closing the door. The darkness increased even more.

"Wait wha... " Sonya tried to say, but the door slammed in front of her nose when she was finishing her sentence.

oh, ok then..

She walked a little circle for a moment and explored the room with her blue-grey eyes.

Sonya ran her fingers on glass wall surface and stared at her reflection.

" My hair has grown long," Sonya noticed and pushed her blonde hair behind the ear. She smiled gently at her reflection and it smiled sadly back.

What am I going to do Sonya thought, and pressed her forehead against the glass.

Room light turned red and the water in aquariums began to bubble as if it were boiling. Sonya stepped back in amazement and ram at something. It felt like a human. She turned around quickly and squeaked weakly. Behind her had appeared man who was at least two times longer than Sonya was and now they were dangerously close. There wasn’t even one inch between then and Sonya could feel man’s breath.

"Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you", man said, and flashed arrogant oblique smile.

Sonya arose her eyes and looked at his face. He was so handsome. His gaze made Sonya weak and even small harmless contact with him made Sonya gasp loudly. Man’s thick eyebrows brought more depth into his dark and thirsty eyes. His perfect features made him look so unrealistic.  

"Who are you ?" Sonya gasped and took a step back. She did not realize how close they had been, but it didn't bother this stranger. He rather enjoyed it.

" And who are you?" man threw back and tilted his head playfully . He walked to the table and leaned to it with both hands . Ever since the Sonya noticed the man he hadn’t turn his eyes away from Sonya even for a minute. It made Sonya feel awkward.

" No , I - I . I am Sonya , "she faltered. She did not want to stutter in this man's company, but the man's constant gaze put her thoughts into a real mess.

The man chuckled dryly and smiled, " My name is Kris. "

" O- okay ", Sonya said, and blushed. You fool.

Kris stretched his neck looking bored and came back really close to Sonya, but this time she didn’t escape. It seemed that the man had hamstringed her and took her performance. Sonya didn’t find the words when she looked at Kris. She couldn't move, but she felt peacefull. Everything around her became hazy and blurry.

Kris brown hair slump to veil on his eyes when this bent down to whisper Sonya

" Is'nt it amazing ? So peaceful . "

His voice was low and warm. A man's scent float into Sonyas nose and in her mind. It gave her cold shiver and swept all the worries that Sonya was carrying. She even forgot for a moment where she was and who she was.

Suddenly she got a strange but powerfull desire to kiss Kris . She wanted tear the shirt on top of him. Sonya took a deep breath and tried to control herself and improper thoughts . Subconsciously she knew that that boy's body was forbidden to him .

It's like Kris had known exactly what was moving in her mind because his intention wasn’t make her feel any better. He was going to take Sonya into limits of self-controll.

" How does that feel ? Whe I touch you like this, " Kris whispered and carried her index finger on Sonya's cheek along the neck down down and back up. His fingers walked along Sonya's body by drawing the small patterns and curves. Sonya closed her eyes and sighed loudly. She bit her teeth as thousands shivers ran in her body.

Words surged from as too loud moan, " Good. That feels ... " Sonya shut . Her intention wasn’t talking with Kris. She wasn’t herself and she knew it, even though she was losing her mind to pleasure. She couldn’t control herself.

Suddenly Sonya felt Kris’ warm lips on her and she threw her eyes wide open in terrified.

What are you doing! Crazy! Sonya tried to scream , but the words stuck in . She replied gently to the man’s kiss, but Kris' lips were too passionate for gentle kiss.

No! This cannot go on Sonya felt a voice inside her.

Stop it right now! and suddenly loud “bump” sound came from Kris’ chest when Sonya hit it. Kris fell couple steps back and crashed into the table. He gasped and stared at the girl. Kris did'nt seem angry about that Sonya had just hit him. He looked surprised and amused.

"You're feisty ," he smiled and wiped his mouth to back of his hand.

" Thank you," Sonya said.

For a while there was just heavy breathing. Sonya didn’t know whether she should say something . Perhaps apologize that had she had hit him. Her sense of reality was coming back and she was able to think logically. The dream-like feeling was gone.

Sonya saw how Kris’ shadow lifted up to its full height and fixed his hair. He cleared his throat and walked towards the door, but stopped in front of Sonya.

" Good luck. You are really powerfull", he said, and gently brushed Sonya’s cheek. She didn’t understand what Kris meant, but took words as a compliment. Before that handsome stranger left, he created last look at Sonya, and winked his eye teasingly. Then the door closed , and Kris was gone, but his kiss was still burning Sonya's lips.

"The test is over. You can leave the room", female voice proclaimed , and the room broke out in lights.
