when the sands of time run out

Description

It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, ugly or beautiful, talented or not, the moment death is near, the mark of death will appear on your body. No one knows where or when it will appear, or even what it will look like, but the moment it appears, you have less than 365 days to live.

Oh Sehun is in his second year of high school when his mark appears. Not knowing if today would be his last day or if he'd live to see tomorrow, he refuses to become like the rest who have been Marked: scared and paranoid each passing day. Instead, he sets out to make sure his remaining days are happy and maybe go down in history as the one of the first few to do so along the way.

Foreword

The mark looked so similar to what Sehun imagined wind looked like. He had imagined an ugly picture of something disgusting, or maybe even just a letter 'X' branded on his body, but he never expected this symbol.

Sehun didn't know what to feel. He was not the only one scared of being Marked, but he was certainly sure he was one of the few who didn't change drastically after that. Back in his first year of high school, he had even joked about it a few times, doodling on his palms or on random parts of his body and showing it to his friends, joking that he had been 'Marked'. And now that his time had finally come, he didn't know how to react. The exact same thing he had been joking about, had finally happened.

He sighs and runs a hand through his hair. The symbol closely resembling the wind sits proudly on his hip, a shade of dark blue. He probably wouldn't have noticed it had he not inspected himself closely that day. He prods at it, but didn't feel anything remotely close to pain. Just the feeling of a finger poking at his hip.

He inspects the other parts of his body closely, wondering if perhaps more than one mark had appeared. He finds none, and he groans. He had always wanted to find some kind of flaw in the Marking system, looks like the only way to prove it wrong, was to last more than a year.

A smirk graces his lips and his eyes shine with glee at the prospect of a new challenge to himself. It was settled. He would try his best to last a year against this Mark. And if he succeeded, well, he would be famous. If he didn't...

Well, he'd have nothing to lose anyway.
