It was already evening and Ella had sat down to watch T.V with Eric.

They had been avoiding having the talk about their engagement. Eric felt like it was necessary to address it.

“How long have we-” Eric began but the “we” part sounded really strange for him. He cleared his throat.

“The engagement, how long has it been going on?” he asked. Ella’s eyebrows raised. She noticed how he changed his words around and she didn’t like it one bit.

“Whose engagement?” she asked acting like she had no clue who he was talking about.

“Ummm you know” he hesitated.

“U-Know’s engagement? I never heard he was engaged!” She said in shock. Eric sighed frustrated. He couldn’t go around it.

“Ours” he coughed. Ella smiled, that’s all she wanted to hear. She raised her hand to her face to observe the ring. She remembered the joyous moment.

“Not too long, you proposed 4 months ago” she whispered in reminisce. She continued remembering the occasion.

“How did I propose?” he asked quietly.

Ella snapped back to reality.

“Won’t I ruin it if I tell you, you know for the girl you WILL end up marrying? You’ll have to think of another way to propose to her if I tell you” she whispered back.

Eric looked at her right away. He was slightly shocked and slightly confused and hurt.

“What do you mean? Are you cancelling our-our engagement?” he asked while stuttering.

“I thought that’s what you were planning on doing” she replied back trying not to cry.

“I never said anything”

Ella’s eyes went wide this time and she looked him straight in the eye.

“You-you’re not going to break up with me?” she stuttered.

“I wasn’t planning on, I thought we were going to-” he began but Ella had already stood up and had walked up to him. She wrapped her arms around him gently, making sure not to hurt him while at it.

He was taken aback. She was hugging him.

“Thank you so much, thank you” she whispered back. She let go of him and wiped her tears.

“I’m a man of honor, I can’t break off the engagement. I just, it’s going to be hard so don’t think it’s going to be easy! And no hugging right now! We have to set some umm rules” he demanded. He was still in shock by Ella’s gesture. Ella just nodded with a smiled, tears still streaming down her face.

“That-that’s fine!” she replied. She got her purse and car keys.

“Where-where are you going?” Eric asked in confusion, it was already 8pm.

“I’m going to go change into my pajamas, I’m also going to go bring my pillow” she replied sniffling but with a cheerful voice.

“Do you need anything?” she added. She was asking it in a way that Eric didn’t like.

“Do we live in the same place?” he asked horrified. He had made a promise to himself not to live with someone before marriage.

He felt a sense of relief when she shook her head.

“No silly, but I have things in my house and even if I don’t have what you need…I can always stop by at yours. I have an extra key to your apartment” she replied. He nodded and thought about it for a moment.

“Oh umm well maybe my pillow?” he asked feeling a bit like a nuisance. She did ask if he needed anything though.

“Sure thing! I’ll be back!” she replied and headed out.

As soon as Ella stepped out of the room she sighed back in relief. She really thought she was going to be dumped. She had been meditating on it during the 5 hours she had been lost the day before. She was preparing herself for the moment, and yet she had truly doubted the love of her life.

He didn’t remember her, but that didn’t change who he was. Who she had fallen in love with. All she had to do now was make him fall in love with her all over again. That’s where the problem arose.

She had no clue why and how, he had fallen in love with her in the first place.
