Dividing Lines
Description
"Youth offers the promise of happiness, but life offers the realities of grief."
When four high school classmates are reunited after six years, they find themselves unwillingly participating in a game of hide and seek with each other. As memories force them to remember the remains of their broken friendships, it's only a matter of time before they will have to face, not only each other, but also the consequences from what they've been avoiding for so long.
-----AN INTRODUCTION-----
(Present day, March 6th, 2014)
Beep.
"My child is sensitive to the sun, you idiot! He came home itching himself all over! I'll be letting the board know about this, you pompous, little..."
Beep.
Seohyun exhaled, leaning back in her chair. There was no use fretting over her job at this point. The board had always been eager to get her fired, having previously complained that she was too young and that her lack of experience would 'ruin in the children.' It was a ridiculous argument, considering that she had underwent all necessary training for the job and found herself to be more mature than half of her co-workers.
(After all, it was one thing to try and gain respect from the parents, but a whole other to worship their every move and kiss the ground they stepped on).
The school she taught at was solely for wealthy, upper class families. The kids spent their entire day, cooped up in classrooms, learning various subjects, ranging from foreign languages to business. Their only free time was during lunch and even then, the volume had to be kept low as they talked amongst themselves.
It wasn't in her personality to go against the rules, but the kids in her class looked so desperate to be outside for once, running around and soaking in the sunshine.
So she tweaked the rules slightly (telling the principal that she was letting them visit the school's garden), while she took them to the back of the school, where there was only a vast, green field.
Looking back on it now, her decision to break the rules was a bad one. Regardless of whether she would get caught or not, it was foolish of her to stray the kids away from their usual lessons.
Rules exist for a reason, She thought, letting out a heavy sigh. I should've known better...
Beep.
Blinking, she peered down at the screen of her phone, not realizing that she had another voicemail from an unknown number.
"What's this?" She muttered, hoping it wasn't another upset parent, as she pressed the device to her ear.
"Uh, hi Seohyun! This is Shinhye, you know, from high school. Hopefully you remember me?"
Seohyun was dismayed that she actually did. In fact, she remembered every distinct detail about the girl -- from the silly dreams she had about becoming an actress, to the way she wore her hair in braids every single day. She had absolutely no idea, however, as to why Shinhye was contacting her. It had six years since they had last seen each other.
"My wedding is actually this Sunday. I know, surprising, huh? It feels like yesterday when we were 18 years old and immature. Anyway, I wanted to invite all my close friends from high school to the ceremony. It's going to be at Zeus Hotel, at 6 PM. If you're not busy, you should come! You know, I invited our other close friends too! Like Yoona, Lu --"
Beep.
She stopped the voicemail, her hands trembling and heart racing. For a minute, she stared at the notification on her phone screen, her gaze hollow.
And then, she deleted it.
