Jinyoung comes from a broken family: he has four older sisters who seem to only love him at a distance and are always hesitant in showing any affection towards him whatsoever. His father has always favoured his sisters and Jinyoung had always thought that this was because his sisters were all 'daddy’s girls'. His mother on the other hand, left them shortly after Jinyoung was born. He always thought they were a quiet, happy family with no conflict or misunderstandings.

But when he decided to come out of the closet and profess his uality to his family, he found out that he was an illegitimate child from a one-night affair. Suddenly, the abnormal qualities of his relationships with his family members actually made sense. His acceptance was all he wanted, yet what he got was disapproval and more neglect from his dad.

From all the anger and depression that came from that twist in his life, he became rebellious. He stopped going to school, he started partying, doing drugs, sleeping with several different people and living the high life. He yearned for a way out but only hoped that his dad would pull him away from this life and accept him as gay. That was the simple dream, the only dream that made sense to him. So he continued on with his rebellion. Until one day a girl named Suzy called him to tell him that he got her pregnant.

If anything brought him out of the rebellion, it wasn’t his father, or Suzy and Jinyoung’s kid that she was carrying for that matter… It was Suzy’s father who asked him to “man the up” because his little girl shouldn’t be raising the child all on her own. He didn’t want to be the person that neglected his child, the same way that his dad did, so he made the conscious decision to become a better person. He became really close friends with Suzy during her pregnancy and supported her through everything. It was their last year of high school and together, as best friends, they pushed through in order to graduate on time. Because of Suzy’s outstanding performance, she got accepted to study post-secondary in Canada.

Months after she gave birth to twins (the older girl, Minjung and the younger boy, Minjae), Suzy left with Minjung and her parents so she could study abroad, leaving Jinyoung to raise Minjae on his own.
