“ The Twelve Days of Christmas”, which also known as Christmastide or Twelvetide, are festive days that begin on Christmas Day (December 25) and end on January 5, the eve of the Epiphany. But, in some traditions, it start on the day after Christmas (December 26) and end on the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6).

There’s a Christmas carol entitled with “The Twelve Days of Christmas” as well. It’s a cumulative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verse, and it consist twelve verses. Each verse is describing a gift given by “ my true love” each day on the “ The Twelve Days of Christmas”. It’s like this..

On the first day of Christmas,

my true love sent to me

A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas,

my true love sent to me

Two turtle doves,

And a partridge in a pear tree.

And so forth, until the last verse..

On the twelfth day of Christmas,

my true love sent to me

Twelve drummers drumming,

Eleven pipers piping,

Ten lords a-leaping,

Nine ladies dancing,

Eight maids a-milking,

Seven swans a-swimming,

Six geese a-laying,

Five golden rings,

Four collie birds,

Three French hens,

Two turtle doves,

And a partridge in a pear tree.

The first day is Christmas. Each day after Christmas represent a feast in memory of a Saint or feast related to Christmas season. Even each gift in the song has a very special meaning.
