Prologue (Part 1)
As The Years Passed By
It seemed like the heaven was crying. The rainfall had been so heavy for the past few days that even the elderly people had to stay quiet – there was nothing they had experienced to compare it to.
Like a storm without wind, without a final destination. Who could have known.
It seemed impossible, the way the storm kept developing. It was as if the storm was gathering strength from its surroundings while holding still, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And strike, strike it did.
On that unusually rainy Friday night, as Jongwoon and Ryeowook were waiting for the latter's parents to pick them up from their weekly choir practice, the storm decided to show its abnormal strength.
It started with an almost gentle breeze, blowing Ryeowook's cap off of his head.
”Hyung, my cap!” he gasped. Jongwoon had been quick to react though, as he was already holding the younger's cap in his hands.
”You better stuff it in your bag, Wookie. I bet it's going to get really windy in a moment.”
”Thank you, hyung!” Ryeowook said, smiling. His smile vanished, however, as he saw something flash and after only a little while, he heard a loud bang. He clutched onto Jongwoon's arm squeezing it for his dear life, but his hyung didn't mind.
”Come on Wookie, let's go back inside to wait for your parents”, he said, pulling the frightened boy back to the old school building with him. Knowing some of the other choir members would still be practicing, he led Ryeowook upstairs. He was the only one, besides Ryeowook's parents, who knew the boy was terrified of thunderstorms, and that the boy would not want any of the other kids to know about his fear.
They entered one of the empty classrooms upstairs, which were now used as storage rooms for various musical instruments.
”Wookie, there's no need to be afraid”, Jongwoon tried to make the younger finally calm down. ”The storm will pass soon, and your parents will be waiting for us.”
The two boys hugged each other, as the younger's sobs were slowly reduced to mere occasional whimpers. However, as they saw another lightning and heard the thunder growl, Ryeowook started to sob again. Jongwoon tried to soothe the smaller boy with comforting words, bringing one of his hands to the poor boy's hair to it gently, waiting for the storm to pass so they could get back home.
Little did they know, the storm had other plans for them.
