"Let's break up."

My eyes widened in shock. "Jieun-ah, what are you saying?" I demanded

She shook her head. "I'll be gone soon. I don't want to hurt you anymore so I thought-"

I grabbed her hands, making her meet my eyes with her own.

"You are hurting me just by saying those words. I'm not going to leave you now or ever. I'll stay with you till the end."

Her eyes began to water, tempting me to pull her into my arms.

"Don't ever leave me," I mumbled into her shoulder, a tear of my own rolled down onto her clothes.

Soon after, I felt her arms around my back, tightening their grip on me.

"I won't," her soft voice answered back.

The next few weeks were filled with both happy and sad memories. Not once did the mention of death or breakup ever popped up in our conversations. We just lived each day like any other couple, hugging, pecking and me tucking her into bed.

And yet, there were also days Jieun suffered. On those days, the pain became too unbearable for her, making her unable to even sit. During those times, I would stay by her side, her small hand covered by my own.

"Stop it," she mumbled.

"Stop what?" I asked.

"That look. I hate making you worried. I want to see you smile."
