Krystal strolled along the beach. It was the perfect summer day out. Bright but cloudy enough to stay outside for a long time without getting sunburnt. She didn't go anywhere special this year, like how she did the years before. Her family decided to be more laid back this year so they just rented a beach house for the summer. Far away enough that she could escape her hometown but not too far away until she was a stranger.
She spotted some familiar faces, from school or the local library, where she works as a part-time librarian. She smiled and they smiled back, sometimes saying hi or even questioning about how she isn't spending her holidays overseas. "My family just wanted to relax this year", was her common answer.
The beach was filled but not crowded. Families are seen picnicking everywhere with the occasional teenage group of friends just hanging out. She turned back to wave at her family on the deck of the beach house, walking backwards. Her parents and her sister waved back. She shook her head. Jessica will never come out, that ice princess, she thought when she suddenly felt her back hit something hard.
"Oof." Krystal heard. She turned to see a handsome young boy, probably a few years older, chuckling.
"Oh dear, I'm so sorry. I got... carried away." She smiled sheepishly and the grinning lad.
