“Kris, why did you bring me to this place?” Dara muttered in a low voice. He brought her to a restaurant for dinner after work was over. He had a hard time making her come with him and his decision to bring her to this fine-dining restaurant is definitely a wrong move

“We should have just talked in the office or in a coffee shop for the matter” she added with a sigh as she grabbed the menu once more. “The price of the food that we will eat here is enough to provide my meals for 3 days!”

He just continuously stared at her, not bothering to be bothered by her whines. He was actually having fun seeing her like this. Giving it a thought, she was never fond of glamorous and pricey things even before. She was simple and she treasured the things that other girls their age wouldn’t even look at when they were still on their university days.

He knew it by heart and yet he still had a delusion that she wanted his money.

I am really an idiot, he thought

“Come on Dara. It won’t hurt to splurge a little for food sometimes right?” he finally spoke as the waiter arrived to take their orders. “Tch, you’re ridiculous” he heard her mumble but he didn’t feel bad. He just smirked at her

After a while, he finally convinced her to let him be the one to order because if he doesn’t do it, she would only be ordering a piece of bread and a glass of water

“Dara…” he started

“What?”

“How have you been? Where were you for the past 4 years?” he asked straightforwardly and he saw her stiffen on her seat

“Kris…” she shook her head

“Dara, please. I want to know what you have been doing since the day you left... I swear I searched for you anywhere possible but I couldn’t find you. Where did you stay? How did you come by?” He stared at her pleadingly. Are you in a relationship with Choi Seunghyun? He wanted to ask but he didn’t want other people to be involved. This talk is supposed to be just about the two of us, he pondered

She broke their eye contact for a moment and heaved a deep sigh before she turned back at him. Her eyes are full of emotions, sadness, loneliness and a hint of anger making his own heart constrict

He grabbed her hand and locked it with his. “Dara, I won’t ask you why you left me because the reason is very much obvious. I was the one who was wrong. I was at fault… But Dara, now that I know everything that happened—“

“What did you learn about? Did Minjung-omma told you—Oh God!” she broke his hold on her hand and covered her face. “You are not supposed to know about anything” she said making him wince. It is hard for him that she kept the truth hidden and hearing from that she really had no plans of telling him the truth about her identity and their marriage. It made his heart hurt

“Dara, I don’t know the reason why you had to keep everything from me. If only I had known, I wouldn’t have been—“

“I had my reasons Kris. I’m not sure if you will understand but I had to do it” she interjected. “And nothing would have changed if you knew it from the beginning…”

“What do you mean?” he asked

“Kris, I—“she let out a muffled groan. He saw the hesitancy in her eyes yet he waited for her to speak

After a while, she opened and the words that came out almost made him fall from seat

“I love you”

.

.

What?  Did I hear her right? He questioned his own hearing

She loves me? He repeated on his head

His eyes widened with her revelation and his heart started beating frantically

.

“I WAS in love you” She immediately corrected herself and turned away. She placed a big emphasis on the word ‘was’ indicating that she’s telling him that it is all in the past.

He held back a sigh. It made his mind clouded for a bit and his chest felt heavy. He kept quiet and his silence have had made her uncomfortable

“I—I used the opportunity to be with you Kris… The day your mother approached me and asked for my help, I was honestly reluctant. But my feelings for you had blinded my judgement. If only I used my brain and controlled my heart at that moment, nothing of this would have happened…” Her voice was shaky and it was full of regret

“Dara…” she shook her head as she continued

“If I had known that our marriage would turn up to be a disaster, I would have declined and thought of other ways to help your family…” she lingered on. “I’m sorry I tied you with me. I was selfish and I understand through the years that I was at fault too. I was young and stupid back then. And I realize that—“

She stopped for a while as tears fell from her eyes. He wanted so bad to reach for her and lock her in a tight embrace but he does not want to break this moment. When she said she’s sorry for being selfish, he wanted to scream No! He was definitely the bastard here. He doesn’t want her to feel otherwise

He was about to reach for her hand once more but her next words instantly made him stop

“There should have not been us, Kris. Meeting you and associating myself with you was definitely wrong. You and I together was the biggest mistake in my life”

Silence

“W-what did you say?” he stuttered

Dara turned her head and it made Kris grew frustrated. He didn’t want to believe it but she just told him that she regrets even meeting him

A sharp pain immediately struck his head. He massaged his head with his head but it provided no comfort. He felt every cell and nerves on his body grew agitated as anger built inside him. But he held it all in. He needs and wants to because he would let Dara know that she was wrong. The two of them together isn’t a mistake. They just happened to be together at the wrong time and for a wrong reason. But he knows that they could work it out.

She will be his again

“Dara—“

He was cut off when Dara’s phone suddenly rung

Dara brought out her phone from her purse and her eyebrows furrowed when she saw who the caller was. Minji-ah… But why would she call me right now? Don’t tell me… she suddenly felt a shiver when she thought of the idea that something happened to him

Kris noticed her expression. Who could it be? Their eyes met and he knew that she was asking for his permission to take the call. Seeing how worried she was, he nodded his head and she mouthed a thank you

He let out a frustrated sigh. He is not liking the direction of their talk but he will deal with it. He will make Dara’s mind change. He will try in any way he could

You better come back Dara-ah… We are not yet done… he muttered as he stared at her retreating back

“Minji-ah? What made you call?”

“Dara-unnie? Are you coming home soon?” the 18-year old girl asked

“Why? I’ll be home soon. Why did you call? Did something happened?”

“Unnie… Can you come home now?” her voice sounded as if she was pleading. “He is running a fever and he is crying hysterically… I don’t know what to do Unnie…” Minji’s voice sounded really worried and just then, she heard loud cries in the background making her heart constrict painfully

She closed her eyes for a moment to calm herself.

She won’t panic. He needs her and she would be there for him

“Okay, I’ll be there in a while. Please call Bom-unnie while I will call Seunghyun-oppa”

“Neh unnie” she hung the phone and immediately dialled Seunghyun’s number. He answered after a few rings

“Dara?”

“Oppa, I need you” her voice sounded desperate

“Why? Did anything happened?” Seunghyun asked cautiously

“My baby… Hanbin is sick again oppa…”
