Chapter 2

Chinese Restaurant

“You annoy me.” Woohyun said as he placed his glass on the table. Just looking at Myungsoo was getting into his nerves and he was pretty sure if things continued like that he was going to lose his cool. God, how could someone annoy him so much just by standing there in front of him? And to make it even better was that even if he was complaining his friend wasn’t listening to a single thing. On the contrary.

“You’re a moron.” Myungsoo was completely ignoring him and everything around him. “You annoy the crap out of me!” He said a little loudly, making sure that his friend, or even the few people around them heard. He saw Myungsoo turn his head slowly and the younger looked at him, with a very bored or angry expression. He really couldn’t tell but at that point, he really couldn’t care less either. He was just annoyed that his friend was acting the way he was.

“Will you stop insulting me?” Woohyun couldn’t help but raise a brow and tried his best not to laugh at that statement. Insult? That’s what he thinks he’s doing? He wished. That was far from being insults and he was pretty sure that his friend was hearing things. “I’m not insulting you. I’m just commenting on something that’s nothing more than a fact.” Woohyun said as he kept on staring at his friend who looked a little lost with the whole conversation.

“You’re pathetic and you’re getting on my nerves! Honest to god, I’m this close to punch you right in the face!” Myungsoo looked at his friend, not wanting to show he was seriously offended when he heard that. “You’re annoying me with that lost puppy look. It’s completely annoying.”

Myungsoo tried to glare but instead he just gave a blank stare to his friend who rolled his eyes and passed a hand through his hair, trying to control his frustration. Myungsoo opened his mouth to ask why; to ask why his friend was acting like a complete jerk but instead Woohyun decided to speak for him. He grabbed his drink first, drank everything that was in the glass and then looked straight into his friend’s eyes.

“You’ve been staring at that Yixing guy since we came here. You haven’t touched your food and you’re looking at him like a complete creep. You’ve been staring at him for a whole hour and I’m pretty sure you just blinked once.” Woohyun paused for a second but didn’t allow Myungsoo to speak. He was sure that even if he wanted, Myungsoo wouldn’t be able to come up with the right words to talk back. He looked completely lost.

“You look like one of those guys from dramas, but in this case it doesn’t look romantic. It looks creepy and if it was me, I would have called the cops on you! I can’t believe you’ve been coming here for a year, every single day of the week, barely eating and all you do is stare at him! What the hell Myungsoo? Are you that much of a coward?”

The younger was rater shocked to hear those words. He always thought them, he always made sure to tell himself those exact same things, but he never expected his friend, his best friend, to tell him something like that. He never expected to actually hear things like this, and since he did, he wasn’t really sure of how to react at all of this.

It was true. It was true that since he came here he wouldn’t touch his food, he would just stare at Yixing, in hopes the waiter would look at him. He wanted to see that smile. He wanted the man just to smile at him. he would spend at least 2whole hours looking at Yixing, hoping, wishing the waiter would walk towards him and would smile at him, or even talk. Anything. He just wanted Yixing to look at him differently. He wanted the waiter to look at him in a different way that he looked to his other costumers.

He wanted to be special for Yixing, but sometimes he was sure that he was just dreaming. Sometimes he was sure the young man was just being sweet and caring, like he was with everyone. But other times he was absolutely sure that he would see a shy, curious smile. Sometimes he would be sure that Yixing was staring back at him with something more than sympathy in his eyes.  But maybe it was just his own selfish wishes that would make him confused.

“I’ve had more action with this freaking glass than you had in a whole year. And I can’t even believe how much this is annoying me!” He paused for a moment. Myungsoo knew his friend was right, but he just couldn’t help it. He wanted to talk to Yixing. He wanted to get up, walk towards him and just talk to him, even if it was just about the weather, but instead, all he could do was stare like was a stalker and wish that he would gain courage one day.

“You know that one day you’ll come here and you’ll see your dear Yixing in the arms of someone else. You know one day you’ll come here and he’ll be gone because he’s with someone else. And hey, what do I know? Maybe he already has someone!”

That hit Myungsoo like a lighting. He wasn’t expecting to hear something like that, but when he did, he could feel his chest getting tighter and he was pretty sure he was about to pass out. That particular thought never crossed his mind. Ever. He always imagined that Yixing would be there, waiting for the day he got enough courage to give the first step. But it’s been a year. For all he knew, Yixing was already dating and was happy with that person. What the hell was he thinking? How could someone like Yixing be completely free?

It was impossible. Someone like Yixing was probably dating his first love and being well taken care of.  Woohyun looked at his friend and regretted his words for about two seconds. He knew that Myungsoo needed to hear those things, otherwise he would still live in a world of complete illusion.

“I’m going to the bar getting something stronger. You keep on staring at him like a creep and wishing for divine intervention.” Myungsoo saw his friend getting up a little too fast and saw him walking towards the small bar. He had no idea that his own coward self could piss off people so much, but apparently he was completely wrong. He thought that Woohyun was going to about everything but in reality he just gave him a sermon about how stupid he actually was.

Woohyun placed his arms on top of the bar counter and passed a hand through his hair, letting out a frustrated groan. He promised himself he was going to help his friend that night. He promised that he was going to help Myungsoo get the man of his dreams that night, but god, if he knew how stupid his friend actually was he would have re-thought the whole thing. If he knew how much of a coward Myungsoo actually was, he would have punched him in the face and make him confess his feelings once and for all before they were all old and grey.

“Though time?” He heard a soft voice talking. He raised his head and saw the same blond waiter that he had been smiling at for the past hour, while he wasn’t insulting Myungsoo. “You can say that. Yeah.” He saw the waiter smile back at him and place a glass in front of him. “Broke up with your boyfriend?” The waiter asked and Woohyun almost laughed when he heard that. “That’s not my boyfriend.” He watched as the cute looking waiter poured him an amber liquid into the glass. It was like he knew what he needed at that moment, which made Woohyun very happy. “That’s the cross I carry.”

He heard the blond waiter laugh gently and he couldn’t help but smile at that. At least someone was making him smile after the whole thing that was happening. “Luhan right?” Woohyun asked and Luhan smiled at him. “Myungsoo told you?” he asked and Woohyun nodded. He wasn’t really surprised Luhan also knew his name. He was sure that even the cook of the restaurant knew his name. That’s what you get when you come to the same place every day for a year. “Yeah. I thought you were Yixing.”

Luhan looked at him with a raised brow and asked him why he would think that when he and Yixing had nothing similar besides their uniforms that consisted on a black shirt and black apron. Woohyun took a sip of his own drink and smirked to the waiter in front of him. “He told me he liked the cutest waiter here.” Luhan showed a small grin when he heard those words. “You don’t waste any time, do you?” He asked and Woohyun smiled at him.

“Unlike Myungsoo, I don’t act like a coward. I get exactly what I want.” The waiter was a little surprised when he heard that. Not that much since the two have been sharing small flirty looks until now, but he was surprised nonetheless. “Am I supposed to think you want me?” He asked and Woohyun looked at him. A small silence took over the both. It wasn’t awkward; it was like the small anticipation before the answer. He took a sip of his drink and placed the glass on the counter.

“Of course. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be talking to you now.” He spoke like he was talking about the weather and all Luhan could do was smirk and blush a little. He liked when people were frontal. “You are the opposite of Myungsoo and Yixing, that’s for sure.”

Woohyun raised a brow. He knew he was completely different from Myungsoo, but he really couldn’t understand why Yixing’s name had been called out. He looked at Luhan who simply told him to look at the other waiter. “Try not to laugh too loud.” Luhan said as he grabbed a glass and started cleaning it.

As he looked he saw Yixing standing in front of the kitchen door, staring. He wasn’t moving a single muscle. The only thing he was doing was blink and blush. Blush like a teenage girl who was watching her crush from afar. “Wait a second…” He followed the young waiter’s gaze and all he could do was hold his laughter. It was too good to be truth. What he just saw was too good to be truth and the hundreds of jokes he had inside his head.

“Are you telling me…?” Woohyun started as he looked to the waiter who was smiling at him. “When Myungsoo first came here Yixing felt head over heels. He was a complete mess, all wet, his suit had stains and his shoes were with some mud and he just couldn’t stop looking at him.” Luhan bent down a little so he could be a little closer to Woohyun. He didn’t want anyone else to hear what they were talking about, and it was simply an excuse to get closer to the costumer that he had been staring at since he entered the small restaurant.

“Yixing has been staring at him like he felt from the sky. He pretends to be all happy and sweet but inside he’s dying to talk to him.” Luhan made a pause and looked around. The restaurant was getting empty and he was pretty sure it would be closing time in a little while. But then again, Myungsoo was the costumer that always stood there, until they closed their doors.

Myungsoo could be smart enough to offer to give Yixing a ride or walk him home after all this time, but no. instead he would just stare at the man leave and then he would go back home. If that wasn’t creepy, Woohyun was pretty sure it was close.

“Why do you think Myungsoo is always in that table? Why do you think that he’s always in the one table that no one besides waiters can see? Because that way Yixing can stare at him all the time without looking like a creep.” Woohyun wasn’t sure if he should laugh at all of this. He couldn’t believe both men were exactly the same. Two stupid cowards who were too afraid to talk to each other. “Well, at least Yixing manages to talk to him. Myungsoo just makes sounds.”

Luhan laughed at that and looked to the man in front of him who took another sip of his drink. “True. If it wasn’t for his job I doubt Yixing would dare to even come closer to him.” Woohyun nodded in agreement. So both men were the same.

He couldn’t really say he was that surprised, but still, Yixing was making an effort, even if it was just because of his job, while Myungsoo just stood there like a stalker. “These two are making me depressed.” Woohyun said as he looked to the two hopeless men in front of him. God, they were pathetic. “You know…” Luhan started as he placed the glass he was holding on the counter.

“We are their friends.” Woohyun raised a brow but knew exactly where the blond man wanted to say. “And it is our duty to make sure they are happy right?” Woohyun couldn’t help but smirk when he heard those words. He was starting to get everything the man was talking about and he really didn’t need to hear anything else.

He moved a little closer to Luhan and the blond one smiled. “As his best friend is my duty to make him happy.” Luhan smiled back at him as he fixed his hair. “And I believe we should work together to achieve that.” This made both men smile. They gave one last look to their hopeless friends and then to each other. Woohyun reached for Luhan’s hand and held it gently making the other man roll his eyes and smirk.“It’s going to be a pleasure to work with you.”
