Chapter 47 – Let It Go

When she was finally inside her car, she looked at the ring that was in her hand and finally started crying. She held the ring close against her chest, gripping it tighter as the pain tightened her heart even more

Jaejoong went to your room. He opened the door slowly and found Donghae sitting on a stool next to your bed, just watching you

Donghae heard Jaejoong open the door and turned his head to him. “Hyung…”

Jaejoong came in and walked over to the other side of your bed. He took another stool and sat on it

Jaejoong held your cold hands

“Hyung, listen… I didn’t mean to yell at you back there-“ Donghae started

“Stop. You did nothing wrong. I should be apologizing… I was just really confused and angry… I just didn’t know what to do.”

“I get it... So, what happened with Tiffany?” he asked

“I ended things with her. Once and for all,” Jaejoong stated

“You’ve finally found the truth?”

“Yep… I can’t believe she would do that. I thought she was a nice girl, turns out she’s part evil too…” Jaejoong said. “Aish, how could I ever trust that girl…” he muttered

“Don’t be too hard on her, hyung. She did it because she loves you.”

“But keeping me away from someone that I love is just too much…” Jaejoong sighed and looked at you

“So, what happens now?” Donghae asked

“I don’t know…” he sighed again while looking at you

Then suddenly your finger flinched

Jaejoong and Donghae jumped in surprise and went closer to you

Your hand flinched and your eyes started to flutter open

Everything was really bright when you first woke up. You blinked a couple of times and your vision became clearer. The first thing you saw was Jaejoong with a happy smile on his face

“Jaejoong… oppa…” your voice was weak

Jaejoong’s smile widened and he nodded

You turned your head a little to the left and saw Donghae

“What happened…?” you asked, you couldn’t recall what had happened

“You fainted…” Jaejoong answered

You blinked and tried to remember it. Then it finally came back to you

“Come on, we’ll help you up first,” Jaejoong said. Then he and Donghae helped you sit up on your bed carefully

Just as you sat up, a pain struck your head. You winced and grabbed your head

Jaejoong and Donghae got a shock

“Are you okay?!” they both said at the same time

“I’m fine. It’s nothing…” you said with a smile

They both sighed in relief

 Then suddenly Jaejoong hugged you tight. You were surprised at first but then you smiled warmly as you hugged him back

“I’m so glad you’re okay…” Jaejoong said

“Sorry for worrying you…”

Donghae took this as his cue to leave. He backed away slowly towards the door

He opened the door but before he left, he took a last look at you and smiled. “Glad you’re okay, Hyeri…” he whispered and then left

Donghae closed the door quietly and he leaned on the door, grabbing his hurting chest

He let out a heavy breath. “I should be happy, right? I should…”

“She’s finally with whom she belongs to now… I should be happy for her…”

“Right…?” Slowly, Donghae turned back and opened the door again quietly and peeked inside

He saw you and Jaejoong happily smiling to each other. Donghae had never seen you so happy like that since the break up

Donghae quietly closed the door again and looked at the doorknob he was holding

“She really is happy…” he smiled

He turned around and took a deep breath

“Come on, Donghae. If you love something, let it go… If it comes back to you, then it’s fate… If it doesn’t- hell- she will never come back to me.” He smiled bitterly. “She was never mine to begin with…”

“Aish. Why am I being so emotional…” Donghae shook his head and ruffled his hair

He glanced back at the door. “Be happy, Hyeri-ya…”

He dug his hands in his pockets and walked away

“Mianhae, oppa. I caused another trouble for you…” you scratched the back of your head

“What are you talking about? You’re safe, that’s what matters to me right now.”

You looked around and suddenly realized something. “Ah, where did Donghae go?” you asked

Jaejoong looked around as well and couldn’t find any signs of Donghae. “I don’t know. I guess he left…”

“Babo Donghae…” you muttered

“What?” Jaejoong couldn’t catch what you said

You shook your head. “Nothing. Where’s Tiffany-ssi? She didn’t go with you?” you asked

“She left after I ended things with her,” Jaejoong said simply

“Oh… Wait- What?”

Jaejoong nodded. “I broke up with her just now.”

“Huh? Why?” you were baffled

“Let’s just say she betrayed my trust.”

You raised an eyebrow

“She lied to me and had kept a huge- I mean a HUGE secret from me. And I’ve just found out about it now… I think it’s already too late for me to know…” Jaejoong hung his head low

“What’s it about?” you asked

Jaejoong looked up and his eyes went straight to yours. “You…”

You were taken aback. “M-me?”

“Why didn’t you tell me…?” Jaejoong asked

“T-tell you what?” you stuttered

“You have leukemia, don’t you? You’ve had it for a long time and you didn’t tell me. Instead you just kept it a secret and broke up with me.”

You gasped. “O-oppa… How-“

“You thought I would never find out about this? Hyeri, I’ve even asked a nurse to get your health records. But because of that damn Tiffany I didn’t get it… And now I had to find out about this the hard way… Not by you, but by your doctor who said you only have 2 months left.”

“Oppa…”

“How could you be so heartless to me? Do you not love me that much anymore?” he asked tearfully

“No! That’s not it, oppa!”

“Then what is it? You don’t trust me? You’d rather keep this a secret between you, Donghae and Tiffany?!”

“I kept this away from you because I don’t want to see you hurt!”

“And you think by keeping this a secret will prevent me from getting hurt? You think by breaking up with me would make everything just perfect again? Well, guess what, Hyeri, you didn’t hurt me, you killed me instead!”

You gripped the bed sheets tighter and looked down

“You know what I did after you break up with me? I locked myself in my studio, doing absolutely nothing but stare into space, drinking, hell- I even smoked! And you thought everything would just be okay…” he scoffed

Then he saw you tear up and tears started to flow down your face

He took a deep breath and calmed down

He sat on your bed next to you

“You should’ve just told me…”

“I was afraid…”

“What were you afraid of?”

“The truth is…” you looked up at him. “I was afraid you’d leave me after I tell you that I have this disease…”

Jaejoong was shocked. “You actually thought I loved you that little?”

“I’m sorry, I should’ve told you… I’m sorry…” you cried

Jaejoong wrapped his arm around your shoulders and pulled you close to him

“You should’ve had nothing to worry about. No matter what condition you’re in, no matter what happens, you should’ve known that I would never ever leave you…”

You nodded and cried against his chest

“I’m sorry, oppa…”

“I’m not mad anymore. Actually, I’m just really disappointed… I couldn’t spend more time with you… I could’ve spent every day with you. Now that I know you only have a little time left, Hyeri, I don’t know what to do…” he sighed

“Just stay with me… That’s more than enough for me.”

Jaejoong softened and hugged you even tighter. He smiled and kissed the top of your head
