Truth
His Smiling AngelChapter 46- Truth
Recap:
He hit his chest a couple of times but it only made the pain worse
He looked up at the night sky. “Why…? Why, God, why? Why her?” he asked silently
____
Tiffany had been searching for Jaejoong all over the hospital but she couldn’t find him, so she went back to your hospital room where you had just been moved into
She opened the door and saw Jaejoong was already next to your bed, holding your hand
Tiffany’s felt a pang in her heart when she saw him
She came closer to him and stood next to him
“Oppa…” she touched his shoulder
Jaejoong looked up at her with his eyes all teary and his face wet
Tiffany softened and his back
Jaejoong didn’t say anything and looked at you again
Tiffany sighed inwardly
Then suddenly the door opened, Jaejoong and Tiffany turned their heads towards the door. It was Donghae
Donghae saw you lying on the bed and he was glad you were in a stable condition. He closed the door but he didn’t dare walked another step closer since there was a pair of eyes looking at him in pure rage
Jaejoong let go of your hand and stood up
“Come out and talk to me outside,” Jaejoong said coldly and went out of the room, leaving the door open
Donghae sighed and went out to follow Jaejoong
Jaejoong walked down the hallway until he reached a corner where it was quiet and no one was there. He stopped his tracks and turned around, making Donghae stop as well
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jaejoong asked
“Tell you what?”
“Hyeri’s leukemia,” Jaejoong said seriously
Donghae was taken aback. “H-How did you know?”
“Just tell me why! Why did I have to find out about this just now?! Why hasn’t anyone told me about this?!” Jaejoong explided
“Hyung, you’ve got to calm down, this is a hospital.”
Jaejoong couldn’t take it anymore and pushed Donghae to the wall, grabbing his sweater
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he seethed
“Hyeri didn’t want me to,” Donghae answered simply
“Then why didn’t she herself tell me about this?”
“Because she didn’t want to tell you, hyung!”
Jaejoong gripped Donghae’s shirt tighter. “Then why did she tell you instead of me?!”
“Because I was the one who had always been with her when you weren’t!” Donghae pushed Jaejoong away harshly, causing Jaejoong step back a few steps
Donghae smoothed his sweater and looked at Jaejoong with a glare. “You don’t even know what’s been going on behind your back all this time.”
“What? Behind my back?”
“Forget it. You’re too dumb to even realize the reason behind everything that’s been happening is yourself and the cause of all this mess has always been right next to you, yet you’re acting like a child by venting your anger at me,” Donghae said coldly. “Now, if you’d excuse me. I’d like to see my best friend.” Donghae started walking away
“Donghae!” Jaejoong yelled from behind
Donghae stopped on his tracks and turned his head to the side. “If you really want to know what’s been going on, you should ask your fiancée,” Donghae said coldly
“Tiffany?” Jaejoong murmured as he watched Donghae walk away. He was still trying to understand what Donghae’s words meant
______________
Donghae went back to your room, meeting Tiffany on his way back who was on her way to Jaejoong. He just glared at her, making her gulp in fear, then continued his way to your room
Tiffany walked down the hallway and found Jaejoong sitting on one of the chairs. She came and sat next to him
“Oppa…”
Jaejoong looked at her. “Tiff… You couldn’t possibly have known about Hyeri’s illness, right?” he asked
Tiffany’s heart started beating faster. “She’s sick?” she pretended not to know anything
Jaejoong sighed in relief. “Thank God you don’t know about it… I guess Donghae’s just blabbing…” he laughed lightly
Tiffany let out a nervous laugh
“Omo, Jaejoong-ssi?” an old woman’s voice suddenly came
Jaejoong looked up and found there was a familiar old woman standing in front of him
“Oh, Nurse Jung…” he stood up and bowed. “Annyeonghaseyo.”
Tiffany stood up as well. Then she tilted her head
‘This woman… Where have I seen her before…?’she asked herself
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” the woman said
“Yes… And I’m sorry for troubling you that time. Turned out you couldn’t find it for me. I’m sorry for the trouble.” He bowed
“What? But I did find it for you. I left it in front of your doorstep a couple of months ago…”
“Huh? But I didn’t receive any…”
“What? But I was sure I left it there, I put it in a brown envelope.”
Tiffany gasped and her eyes widened. ‘This was the woman who left the health records…!’
Jaejoong heard Tiffany’s gasp and turned to look at her. “What’s wrong?” he asked
“Uhmm, nothing…” she chuckled nervously
Jaejoong looked at her in suspicion but then forgot about it for a while and turned his attention towards Nurse Jung again
“When did you leave it?”
“Hmm… If I could remember, it was about 2 weeks after you asked me…”
“Two weeks…” he mumbled to himself and started thinking
“I can get it for you again if you want me to…” the nurse said
Jaejoong snapped out of his thoughts. “Oh, no, that won’t be necessary,” Jaejoong said
“Oh… Well… I’d better be going. It was nice to see you again, Jaejoong-ssi.” The nurse smiled warmly
“Yes, you too.” Jaejoong smiled back and the nurse left
Jaejoong sat back on the chair and started thinking again, trying to recall what happened, thinking about what Donghae had said before
'...the cause of all this mess has always been right next to you.'
'If you really want to know what’s been going on, you should ask your fiancée.'
And then a scene appeared in his mind
“I saw you putting something in your bag just now, what was it?”
“W-What? Something? Oh that was just… nothing.” Tiffany laughed nervously while gripping her bag tighter
He opened the envelope and peeped the inside. He saw there were papers in it. He took out the papers and was about to read it but suddenly Tiffany quickly snatched it from him. “O-Oppa, you can’t see that!”
Jaejoong was finally realizing what was going on
“That brown envelope…” he remembered and then looked at Tiffany who was sitting next to him
“Tiff, that brown envelope you put in your bag that time… Where did you get it?”
Tiffany swallowed, seeing Jaejoong’s serious and suspicious look. She couldn’t confess now, it had gotten this far, she couldn’t give up now
“Eomma gave it to me and I was just checking it again.”
“What’s in it?”
“Oh nothing… Just some company stuff…”
“Why didn’t she give it to me then? You’re not working in the company, why would she give it to you?” Jaejoong was getting more and more suspicious of her
“She told me to give it to appa…”
“Oh…”
Tiffany felt she had averted a danger
“Is that the same brown envelope I saw on your desk on the night of the party?”
“I don’t know… I don’t remember.”
“Then remember!”
“I don’t remember! Why are you asking these questions to me?! Do you not trust me that much?!”
“It’s not that… It’s just that I can’t help but to think-”
“Well, I know what you’re thinking! So no! I didn’t steal her health records!”
When Tiffany realized what she had said, she covered
“How did you know about her health records…? I didn’t tell you what was inside it…”
“Oppa…”
Jaejoong looked down and then started laughing, laughing at himself
“How could I be so stupid…?” he asked to himself
“You knew about this didn’t you? You knew and you didn’t tell me.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about…“
“Cut the act, Tiff. You stole that envelope and read what was inside it didn’t you?! Didn’t you?!”
“Oppa…” she reached for him but he slapped her hand
“How could you…?” he looked at her in disbelief and stood up
“I thought you were nice and pure… Turns out Donghae was right, you’re the one behind all this…” he said and then started leaving
Tiffany quickly stood up and went after him. She grabbed his arm. “Oppa, I just want you to get away from her! If I had told you about this, then you’d never leave her side! What was I supposed to do?! I’m your fiancée! Not her!”
Jaejoong pushed her away, causing her to fall down on the floor. Jaejoong glared at her. “Well, not anymore. This…” he took of the ring from his finger and showed it to her. “This is over.” He threw the ring at her and it landed on the floor
Then Jaejoong left her
Tiffany could only watch him leave, her heart was shattered into pieces. She took the ring from the floor, stood up and left the hospital, bearing the pain that was hurting her heart. She didn’t want anyone to see her cry
When she was finally inside her car, she looked at the ring that was in her hand and finally started crying. She held the ring close against her chest, gripping it tighter as the pain tightened her heart even more
