Comfort

Description

Sungmin and Kangin comfort each other at night.

Foreword

Kangin rolled over on his bed, unable to sleep comfortably. Every position was awkward and just made him more awake. Longing for sleep, he put his head on the pillow and squeezed his eyes shut.

But when he closed his eyes, he could see the incident again, could see himself crashing into the car and driving off. Replaying itself over and over again. Feeling tears appear in his eyes, he bit his lip to keep them in. He shouldn't cry, it was all his fault.

Deciding to go to the kitchen for a drink, he slowly poured himself a glass of water and started to drink it, not in a rush to go back to bed. That's when he heard it.

The small noises that came from the bathroom. The tiny sniffles and hiccups. The sounds of someone in pain.
Going to the bathroom, he pushed open the door slowly, not wanting to frighten whoever was inside. When he opened the door, he saw Sungmin sitting on the cold floor, a box of tissues in his hand.
"I'm sorry Kangin, did I wake you up?" His voice was tiny and guilty, and Kangin settled on the floor next to him.
"I was already awake Min, don't worry." He pulled the boy into his arms and rubbed his back. "What's wrong?"

The boy just shook his head, desperately trying to wipe away his tears. He looked embarrassed to be caught crying, as though it was weak.
"Nothing really, I'm just a stupid crybaby." He lowered his head in shame, and Kangin hugged him closer.
"Sungmin, it's not stupid to cry. And if something has hurt you then it's not nothing. You can tell me anything, you know that."

Hugging Kangin closer and resting his head on his chest, Sungmin took deep breaths. When the sobs had stopped long enough for him to be able to talk, he spoke quietly into the soft material of Kangin's pajama top.
"I just- I just feel lonely sometimes. I know that all of you are here, but I just feel like I'm on my own. I know that it's stupid to say that, because how could someone be lonely when there are fourteen other people around them? But sometimes that's how I feel..."
Kangin nodded. "I understand Min, I get that feeling sometimes too, everyone does. Next time you're feeling lonely, I'd like you to come to me. I'll look after you, and you won't be lonely anymore."

Sungmin looked up with big wide eyes. "Really? Thank you."
"Of course you can come to me. I'm always here for you Minnie, I'll make sure that you're happy."
The younger boy nuzzled into his chest, and closed his eyes. Kangin could see by the dark circles under his eyes that the boy hadn't been sleeping well.
"Minnie, do you want to sleep in my bed?"
"Yes, please. If you don't mind.."
"I don't mind at all. I was having trouble sleeping too."

Sungmin slipped under the soft sheets, and lay his head on Kangin's chest.
"Why were you having trouble sleeping Kangin?" he asked in a caring voice.
"I was just thinking about things.."
Sungmin hugged him closer. "Were you thinking about the incident?"
As he felt a small nod, Sungmin his hyung's arm and pressed soft kisses to the material of his pajama top.
"Please don't worry about it Kangin. It's over now, and you've apologised."

Sliding the blanket over both of their heads, Kangin built the courage to ask Sungmin the question that had been worrying him since he returned.
"A-are you scared of me, Min? Do I make you worried when I'm around?"
Hearing the fear in Kangin's voice, Sungmin his hair softly.
"No, I'm not scared at all. No one else is either, we're so happy to have you back." He took Kangin's hand and placed it on his chest. "See, I'm not scared."
When he felt the steady heartbeat, Kangin relaxed a little.

He leaned down and pressed his lips against Sungmin's before he could stop himself, and then pulled away quickly.
"Sorry I- I don't know why I did that.."
He felt a soft pair of lips against his own, and smiled. Sungmin loved him too.

Pulling the blanket from over their heads and making sure that Min was warm and comfortable, Kangin hugged the boy close and closed his eyes to sleep. He kept rubbing the boy's back to comfort him, making sure that Sungmin would never feel alone again. And Kangin knew, cradling the semi-conscious boy in his arms, that he would never feel like a monster again.

And as they comforted each other with their bodies, they also comforted each other with their hearts.
