I heard footsteps behind me. Someone plucked out the cigarette dangling from my lips.

Eli.

I knew it was him before I even turned around. In my peripheral vision, I saw him reaching out to touch my hair. I moved away. He sat down facing me and gave me a hesitant smile.

Laughing, singing, playing around, cuddling, cooking for each other, taking pictures, being…normal.

Suddenly, all these memories were gone, replaced by an overwhelming darkness enveloping me. There was no one around. For miles.

A single gunshot reduced my perfect life to rubble.

‘I’m here, y’know,’ Eli’s voice interrupted my reverie.

I nodded.
