Saying Goodbye Too Soon

28B

I could hear someone mumbling my name, and I shifted not wanting to wake up. Nudging my face deeper into the pillow, I felt a tap on my shoulder and whinned not wanting to comply to it.

"Navita." I heard a somewhat familiar deep voice say.

My eyes fluttering open, I blinked a couple of times when I noticed my face wasn't nudged into a pillow but,

What is that?

I tilted my head up hazily and met eyes with the familiar stranger.

"Jong In?"

I blinked again and my vision finally coming together, I noticed that I was not sleeping on a pillow, but on the dancer, my face in the crook of his shoulder. I rubbed my face,

"What happened?"

With my head still on his shoulder he just smiled shyly,

"You fell asleep and ended up falling on my shoulder. I would have moved you, but..I didn't want to disturb you."

You took in what he said before pulling back apologetically,

"Oh, I'm so sorry."

He just chuckled, shaking his head lightly,

"No it's fine."

Hearing a cough, we both turned to the stuartist who was looking between us,

"You're dinner is served."

I looked from the lady, down to my table which was now filled with food. I could feel my stomach growl and I turned back to the flight attendant,

"Thank you."

The dancer also gave his gratitude and the lady simply replied a,

"You're welcome." Before heading off to the next customer.

I looked back down at my food and happily picked up my utensils, digging in. The dancer followed, and with that we both ate happily. About halfway done, I notice a stare, and turned catching his eye.

"What?"

He just shook his head going back to his food,

"Nothing."

I looked from him to his food unconvinced, and while looking at the food more closely I noticed that we didn't have the same thing.

"Oh, our food is different."

He stopped eating and looked from his food to mine,

"Really?"

I nodded,

"Yeah. What did you get?"

"I got meat and you?"

"Chicken." I replied and he bit his lip,

"What?" I asked and he poked his food,

"I like chicken more than meat."

I blinked at him before looking down at my food. I then turned my attention toward his own plate before grabbing it. He looked up at me shocked,

"What are you doing?"

I simply took his plate and scooped some of the chicken from mine onto his,

"What does it look like I'm doing silly. I'm sharing of course."

He bit his lip again,

"You don't have to do that."

I shrugged,

"It's fine. Besides they say food taste better if you share with someone."

I turned to him and handed his plate back with a smile. He took the plate and sat it down, looking at me.

"Thanks." He said and I beamed,

"No problem."

I watched as he hesitantly took a bite before looking back at me,

"You're right it does taste better."

________

After eating, we once again continued our conversation and to my disappointment a bell rang soon followed by the voice of the captain.

"Hello passengers, this is your Captain speaking. We will soon be in Canada, so please prepare for landing."

I sighed, and took a quick glance at the dancer, who in turn also glanced at me.

"I can't believe we're already here." I shook my head,

"Time goes by quick when you're having fun." He smiled and I looked at him,

"You had fun?" I asked and he nodded,

"Thanks to you."

I turned hoping he didn't notice the blush that crept its way from my neck to my face. Seeing a light flicker, I turned my attention upwards where the seatbelt sign was now flashing. Buckling my seatbelt, I looked out the window and watched as the plane quickly lost altitude. After a couple of minutes, turbulance began signafying that soon, way too soon in your opinion, the plane would be landing. With the plane rocking, I turned my attention back towards the dancer who looked at me with a smile.

"And we have just landed in Canada. Time is 4:36 pm. Hope you all enjoyed your flight."

I watched as the people around us quickly unbuckled, jumping out of their seats to grab their luggage. I just sat there, waiting patiently and when it cleared out, the dancer decided that it was now his turn. Getting out of his seat, he grabbed his bag and I did the same. With him leading, we exited the plane and once in the airport itself he stopped and turned to me. We just looked at each other.

"Um, well I guess this is our goodbye." He said scratching the back of his neck.

"Yeah. I guess it is." I stated not liking this feeling for some odd reason.

He looked at me, bitting his lip as if he was contemplating something, before stepping forward wrapping me in a gentle hug. I blinked, and he stepped back looking at me,

"Thanks for the company."

I nodded.

With that, he simply turned and began to walk away. For a minute I just stood there and watched his retreating figure. I didn't like it. Even though I just met him, for some odd reason it just didn't feel right. Taking a deep breath, I knew it was now or never. Jogging up to him, I grabbed his arm and he turned around surprise.

"How long?" I asked and he just looked at me.

"How long are you going to be here?"

He thought about it,

"For a week or two I guess."

I shuffled around my bag and pulled out my phone,

"Well maybe we could get together before you leave. Can I get your number?"

He looked from my phone to me and for a second I felt my heart drop.

He probably didn't...

"Of course. I-I would love that." He replied, fishing in his pocket for his phone.

He frowned, looking at me,

"Hm that's weird, I can't find it."

I thought about it for a second.

"Oh!"

I remembered that I had his phone when I was listening to his music. Pulling it out of my pocket, I handed it to him,

"Sorry about that."

We exchanged phone numbers and once finished we stood there looking at each other. Hearing a name being called, we turned and found a guy waving at us,

"That's my friend." He said, turning and also waving to his friend.

I noticed a sign with my name on it and I sighed,

"And there's my ride."

He looked from his friend, to the sign, back to me.

"It was nice meeting you, Navita."

I nodded,

"You too Jong In....Kai."

He laughed. Turning he began to walk towards his friend.

"I'll see you around." I called out and he looked at me smiling,

"Hopefully soon."

And with that he walked to his friend. Meeting with his friend, I watched as they enveloped each other in a hug, happy to see each other. Giving their greetings, I watched the friend look from the dancer to me, and I gave a small smile. He gave me a small smile in return and the dancer took notice. He waved to me and I waved back and with that they turned leaving. I sighed and turned my attention back towards the driver holding the sign. Walking up to him, he noticed me and quickly smiled,

"Miss-"

I quickly cut him off,

"It's Navita. Just Navita."

He smiled and bowed,

"Navita. Welcome to Canada."

I turned back towards the area where the dancer was now long gone. Staring, I wondered if I would truly be able to meet him again.

I hoped so.

Remembering all the memories on the plane, I turned back towards the man and smiled,

"I'm glad to be here."

________

(One week later)

I sighed closing the folder in front of me.

There, finished.

Wiping my arm across my forehead, I collect my things, exhausted from another day at work. Putting everything away, I grabbed my bag and stood up ready to head back home and pass out like every other day. Walking down the hallway and hearing the continuing,

"Nice job."

"See you tomorrow."

"Have a good day."

I just gave my replies, and pushed the glass doors open, grateful when the cool air hit my face. Standing there on the sidewalk, waiting for the car to arrive, I heard my phone buzz and I groaned not really wanting to answer another business call. Fishing my phone out of my bag, I hit the answer button and put it to my ear,

"This is Navita speaking."

"Um hey Navita..this is Jong In."

I felt my heart flutter from the familiar voice.

"I don't know if you remember me. From the airport."

I was silent for a second,

"Who?"

I heard him sigh and I just replied,

"I'm kidding. Hi Kai."

I heard him take a breath,

"That's just cruel."

I couldn't help but laugh,

"I'm sorry it was just too perfect."

"So, what's up?" I asked and hearing the sound of a car stopping I looked up to see the company car stopped in front of me.

I watched as the driver jumped out, rounding the car to open my door,

"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out. Grab some dinner maybe?"

I nodded at the driver and stepped into the car. Hearing the car door shut I answered,

"I would love to."

I could picture him smiling,

"Great. Meet you at Troys then?"

I looked at the driver who had just rounded the car and opened his door, getting in.

"Sounds good, I'll see you in a bit."

"Ok see you soon."

With that he hung up and as much as I wanted to squeal, I knew that I would look like a mad woman. Staring at the phone, the driver spoke snapping my attention back,

"Home Miss?"

I simply shook my head,

"Actually, could you drop me off at Troys?"

He nodded,

"Of course miss. Are you meeting someone there?"

I looked out the window, my reflection staring back at me with a smile,

"You could say that."
