23. Love like this

7 hours from home, next door to heart (in the process of editing)

“Yum Maddy is such a good cook,” Jungmin said for the umpteenth time as he and Kibum ate their rice.

“You’ve already said that,” Kibum was getting tired of Jungmin’s happy mood.

“I like saying it,” he added a cheesy eye smile just to piss Kibum off even more.

“I wonder when they are coming back.”

“They will come back when they are feeling lovey dovey with each other.”

“The heck Jungmin—“

“Don’t you want your hyung happy?”

“W-Well…”

“—exactly, it’s about time he found a girl and that girl is none other than Maddy… Maddy Taylor,” Jungmin had spotted something with her full name on it.

“Omo is that a diary?” Kibum watched as Jungmin casually got up and walked over to it.

“H-Hyung no don’t do it!”

“Why not?” Jungmin opened it before feigning annoyance, “I can’t understand it.”

“Good,” Kibum folded his arms. They heard the door handle turn.

“Crap,” Jungmin put it down where he found it and went back to where he had been sitting.

“Hey,” Maddy looked at them as Hyung Jun followed, “so how was the food?”

“Super,” Jungmin put a thumb up.

“Good,” Maddy glanced at Hyung Jun, “take a seat I’ll heat our food ok?” He nodded and went to the table.

“So…?” Jungmin nudged Hyung Jun while his eyebrows jumped, “how was it?”

“How was what?” Hyung Jun asked suspicious. Thank goodness they were talking in Korean.

“You know, you and her.” Hyung Jun rolled his eyes.

“You’re crazy hyung.”

“Hey I care about you. I want you and her to get married one day and have cute little blonde small eyed babies.”

“I thought you said I wouldn’t.”

“Well,” Jungmin cleared this throat, “I guess I may have misunderstood how you felt at first.”

“What does that mean?”

“I thought you only liked her a little, but now… I think it’s more.” Hyung Jun lowered his head in the hope Maddy hadn’t spotted his face reddening.

“Hyung Jun I think you—“

“Here,” Maddy placed the bowl in front of Hyung Jun before sitting beside Jungmin with hers. Jungmin nudged her in the side.

He had a happy grin on his face, “so?” She frowned.

“So what is it Jungmin?”

“Oh never mind,” Jungmin gave up for the time being but Hyung Jun knew he would try again.

***

The next day the Kim brothers had to go to a meeting. It would be the last one before they flew back to Korea. Jungmin was up early as well; he went for a run before knocking on Maddy’s door.

He greeted her with a bright smile, “good morning.”

“Morning,” she opened the door to let him in, “what can I do for you?”

“Oh not much,” he went straight to her fridge opening the door. He pouted as he closed it again, “no carrots?”

“Oh yeah I was meant to go shopping,” Maddy remembered, “you want to come?”

“Sure.” Maddy picked up her bag and keys and they went.

***

“That was fun,” Jungmin remarked as they came back into her apartment. Maddy smiled at him.

“That’s good,” Maddy put her vegetables and other fresh produce in the fridge and then the other things in the pantry. Someone’s stomach grumbled.

“Oh that must be me,” Jungmin said guilty, “I didn’t eat before coming.” Maddy went to the cupboard and took out a box of cereal.

“You ok with special K?”

“What’s special about it?” Jungmin peered at the box curiously.

“Oh it’s just a name,” Maddy shrugged bending down to take out a bowl, “or… I have Wheatbix.”

“Wheatbix?”

“Oh it’s not as tasty on its own,” Maddy admitted, “apparently it’s good for you.” She showed him the box. He had an amused expression, “looks like card.” She laughed at Jungmin.

“I suppose people say it tastes like it too.” Jungmin touched the top of the Special K.

“This will do me fine,” he assured her tipping the box into a bowl. Maddy handed him her carton of milk which he poured generously over his cereal nearly drowning it in calcium. As he ate Maddy poured the kettle into a cup. She asked if he wanted a coffee which he politely declined.

“So Maddy what do you do normally?”

“Oh I work as a hair dresser,” she replied adding some sugar to her beverage, “part time though but I would like more hours.”

“Cool,” he ate more of his cereal shoveling it in, “this stuff’s not bad.” His mouth was full and he looked like a chipmunk. “So you’ve known Kibum and Hyung Jun-ah for…?”
Maddy replied sipping her drink, “I’ve known them for…” She counted in her head, “about a month almost.”

Jungmin swallowed his mouthful, “ah so since they came?” Maddy nodded at this, “cool,” was his reply.

“Kibum’s a nice kid isn’t he?”

“He isn’t a kid,” Maddy smirked at Jungmin, “but I see what you mean.”

“Do you like Hyung Jun?” Maddy frowned at Jungmin in confusion, “of course I do. He’s my friend.”

“Not what I meant,” Jungmin pointed out. Maddy’s mouth went into an ‘o’ shape, “y-you mean….As in like, like him?” Jungmin gave her thumbs up, “correct.”

“Oh I umm…” Maddy didn’t know how to respond, “I don’t feel that way…”

“—So you don’t see him in that way.”

“It’s just that I…I never thought of it that way.”

“You’re boring,” Jungmin stuck his tongue out, “you have not a single feeling?”

“No,” Jungmin got up from his chair, “where are you going?” She asked Jungmin.

“I’m just getting something,” he went next door and was gone for a bit. Maddy was left to clean up while Jungmin was away. He came back ten minutes later with Kibum’s laptop. He placed it on the bench and plugged it in. He then held his hand down moving his fingers back and forth. Maddy came around to where he was, standing next to him. He logged onto Kibum’s computer.

“You know the password?”

“I know them too well,” Jungmin winked as he went to YouTube. He typed in Kim Hyung Jun.

“W-wait what are you….?” The page loaded to the search results. Jungmin scrolled through until he found what he was looking for. He clicked on the box and waited for the video to load.

(A/N this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnzM8uMckSk)

For a while Maddy was memorized by the video, the choreography, the singing and five guys all on the stage singing and dancing. Jungmin just sat back as if he was aware of this. He pointed to the screen when the video was almost finished, “see. This is what Hyung Jun and I was born to do. To be stars and to be there,” he turned in his seat to her, “those girls there love us; we are their world. They may get mad if they find out one of us is dating.” Maddy could understand what he was saying. Seeing them on stage made it seem like they were completely different people. With a heavy heart she nodded at what he said.

“Stars date all the time, but they date those that they like or love…” He got out of his seat and kneeled by her taking her hands like he was begging for forgiveness for something else, “If I was quiet and didn’t say I knew could you like…Love Hyung Jun-ah truly?” Maddy was speechless she didn’t know what came over him or why he was saying this.

“Maddy…I know chicks, I know that something’s there.” Jungmin wasn’t aware that the Kim brothers had arrived and had overheard the last part of the sentence.

“Something’s there,” Kibum repeated just as confused as his brother was. Jungmin got to his feet.

“How much did you hear?” He said in Korean.

“Just that,” Hyung Jun replied, “What are you doing hyung?”

“Something fell on the floor,” Jungmin pretended to pick something up from the ground and open up one of Maddy’s hands to put it in her palm, “it didn’t fall far.”

“That’s good,” Kibum’s eyes widened, “is that my computer?!”

“He borrowed it,” Maddy was quick to defend Jungmin as Kibum came over to see what they were doing. Hyung Jun came quick after him.

“You were watching videos?!” Kibum closed the lid, “hyung…”

“Sorry I didn’t ask,” Maddy didn’t understand what they said but she got the gist of it.

“Maddy,” Hyung Jun began in English, “we were thinking of going out tonight. It will be our last Friday before we leave. Want to come?”

“Go out?” Maddy said in some shock, “like… Clubbing?”

“Yeah heard there’s a Korean bar close by,” Kibum added; “but I don’t think hyung will drink right—oof!” Hyung Jun nudged him hard in the ribs.

“I-I suppose,” she didn’t sound so certain.

“You don’t have to come,” Jungmin offered, “but I think it would be cool.”

“Ok, sure,” turned up at the sides.

“We’ll go at seven thirty,” Hyung Jun told her, “KyuYang-ah will drive us.” They then bid a farewell and let Maddy get ready for her work. They would see her around the time they would leave for the club.

Another long chapter again; oh boy I don’t plan them to be this long. Chances are you will enjoy the next chapter :D
