The Irony

The Irony

It wasn’t like the respective members from their groups didn’t know. The obvious longing gazes, shy smiles and blushes told it all. The love didn’t surprise them; the actions did. Sooyoung was one of the most outgoing members in SNSD, and not even SNSD, but the whole SMTOWN could not imagine Sooyoung getting panic stricken and excited when she received a call or text message from Daehyun, or her squealing like Jessica’s dolphin voice because she saw Daehyun’s charming smile on TV. When it comes to Daehyun, she just seemed like a little teenage girl falling in love all over again. Hyoyeon knew how Sooyoung was a typical romantic, always wishing for her ‘Prince’ to give her a magnificent kiss and save her from this dull boring world that she was living in. It wasn’t  that the world she lived in was dull and boring, but well you get what I mean. More than often she would tease Sooyoung for dreaming in her own fantasies, but really it wasn’t as if no one had them. Recently though, Hyoyeon realized through their shy interactions that Daehyun seemed truly meant for Sooyoung.

“Sooyoung-ah, you got a bouquet of flowers.”

“Again.”

“Oh my Daehyun oppa is really desperate this time isn’t he?” Seohyun said as her eyes landed on the pile of bouquets lying on the ground being ignored, varying of colours.

“Just forgive him, Soo,”

Sooyoung just pouted at Tiffany’s words, and crossed her arms. “He would have to do much better than just sending me ten banquets of flowers. Doesn’t he know what princes in fairytales do? They go on a horse and kiss them and propose and-“

“This is reality Sooyoung, get used to it,” Taeyeon rolled her eyes, and raised her eyebrows, “Besides, since you are keeping track of the amount of bouquets he sends every half an hour, I bet you’ll forgive him by today. You just love to so much don't you,”

Upon hearing her words, Sooyoung immediately turned a dark shade of red, stuttering slightly, “N-n-no, of course not! i just happen to be observant,” she glared at Yuri who choked on her iced tea, “And anyway, so what if I do keep track? He’s supposed to send me way more than just a simple ten bouquets! Doesn’t he know what princes are like?”
“Really Soo, stop this whole fairytale thing. You’re lucky enough Daehyun oppa likes you enough now to tolerate your prince and whatnot nonsense. If you’re unlucky…” Hyoyeon put her hand on a now shocked Sooyoung’s shoulder, shaking her head slightly. Making a tsk sound, Sooyoung shrugged off her hand and retorted, “Ah, whatever! I’ll just go breathe some fresh air,” as she walked out of SNSD’s waiting room, feeling less confident than before.

It wasn’t that Sooyoung wanted to , really. They had been together for three months already, becoming four, and during that period of time Sooyoung had never felt happier. Sure, there were times when they needed to be secretive and sneak out of their dorms just to see each other for mere minutes, but the rush of excitement that accompanied them made it even more enjoyable.  She just couldn’t help but think that, what if, just what if, this couldn’t last. That all of this, was just an infatuation of Daehyun’s, that this was a game, that this really just wasn’t a fairytale come true but a nightmare instead. Loads of times Sooyoung had fallen too deep, too out of reach, that it took her friends a couple of months, sometimes years, to get her out of that pit where she was bruised yet mended by letters and words of comfort and smiles. She had gotten afraid to be unable to stand on her feet again; unable to get out of that dark pit again, unable to resist the heartache again. She had sworn to never fall in love that easily anymore, but Daehyun was a surprise. She had never really thought of him anymore other than a friend, but when she was feeling at her worst, he was the one that texted her every night without fail, sent her smiles and cute, funny texts to cheer her up. They didn’t call for both knew it would be awkward. It wasn’t like Sooyoung’s voice was functioning at its best anyway. Slowly but surely, she felt herself getting pulled towards that pit again. Sooyoung was excited; to feel the butterflies in her stomach again, to learn what it is to feel like a princess again, but at the same time as she looked into that black pit, she wished she could run away. So she avoided him.

It took Daehyun three months to get past Sooyoung’s façade. It took Sooyoung three months to finally believe in love again and unconditionally jump into that pit that many times made her break in so many ways it was a miracle she was still whole. He treated her just like how she wanted; that everlasting sweetness and smiles that came with kisses with fluttering hearts. That was all she needed in that point of time. Now, the fear in her grew like a monster, constantly creeping into her mind and heart, telling her all sorts of possibilities like what if Daehyun was just fooling her, what if Daehyun would leave her in that pit just like the others, what if in the end she would be broken beyond repair. She feared. Greatly. She needed proof, evidence, more than just sweetness like honey.

And so that kind of just explained why she did that.

Sooyoung sighed as she picked up the bouquets one by one, smelling them before laying them onto the dull-colored sofa. Guilt overwhelmed her. Daehyun deserved her trust. He had used so many ways to prove that he loved her, yet here was she being insecure and paranoid.

“Fear kills,” Sooyoung whispered, as a lone tear streaked down her left cheek. She hadn’t wanted to really make a scene to her fellow mates in SM, since the argument basically took place at the cafeteria. How embarrassing, really. It was such a petty case, just because Daeyhun forgot to buy her favourite set meal and bought a regular meal that wouldn’t satisfy his shikshin’s stomach; she pouted and had ignored him for the rest of the break time, not even so much sparing him a glance when he pleaded with aegyo (she had seen too much of Sunny’s, so she was utterly immune to it), and even when Donghae or Eunhyuk or her fellow friends tried to talk her into communicating with him again and not be angry, she refused to give in. It was actually so ing stupid Sooyoung still couldn’t quite believe she had made a fuss out of something so simple as a damn meal. The more she thought about it, the more she started to hate on herself, blaming herself since she was almost one hundred percent sure Daehyun was extremely frustrated with her, and they would probably break up, although that thought basically had Sooyoung cringing. She bit her lip, completely ashamed as her gaze once again landed on the pile of flowers he had painstakingly chose to give to her, and she closed her eyes tightly.

“What have I done?”

In normal occasions, Daehyun would have been ing pissed. He would have probably dumped that girl, giving her a cold hard look as he strode out of there with his ever-so-confident stride. But that girl was Sooyoung. The girl that made everyday seem like sweet, sweet, summer that smelt of flowers. She was just like a combination of heaven and all the beautiful sceneries and paintings in the world, it wasn’t a surprise when he heard a lot of people also had a crush on her; he wasn’t an exception. It was love at first sight, he remembered. He saw her laughing at something Hyoyeon said, and that stunning sight of her basically had his mouth turning dry and his heart beating at an abnormal rate. He had been determined then, too get close to her, even if they would remain as friends in the end. Slowly yet surely, he closed the distance between him and her, and one look in her eyes he knew there was untold hurt in her, some too deep and sad to reveal to him. with that fact, his determination only grew even further to the point of no return, and he made an oath to become her shining knight in armour after knowing how she was a fanatic to romance. That was basically what kept him from giving up when Sooyoung had suddenly distanced herself from him , and it took him exactly three months to let her open up to him once and for all, and BAM they were together.

Their squabbles weren’t uncommon. This one though, daehyun had to admit, he was slightly annoyed. Especially now since she apparently hadn’t bothered to look into those bunches of colorful flowers to realize the note he had written to her to come to the rooftop. So there he was, looking extremely idiotic with a big bunch of roses, the wind slapping his face and making his hair whip in all weird directions. Rolling his eyes, he knew more than likely Sooyoung was blaming herself now and the clueness her just didn’t had that sense to look deeper into those flowers, thinking they were flowers only asking for forgiveness. “It’s a wonder how I have changed so much because of you, Choi Sooyoung,”

Sooyoung tried to control her tears from falling, but really gravity pulls everything down, so within seconds her third set of tears started streaming down her face. Part of her wanted to look for Daehyun and shriek at him to tell him she’s sorry and everything but she figured shrieking wouldn’t be appropriate since she recalled what Jessica told her; that she had a tendency to shriek when feeling upset. Just then, she heard three almost soft knocks on the door, and there came in her shining knight in armour, looking dashingly handsome as always. Eyes widening, Sooyoung wiped off the tears frantically, not wanting to let him see how weak she was. Sadly, Daehyun chuckled, “Aww, my darling princess is crying now is she,”

She half-glared half-pouted and she retorted, “I’m not,” even though it was obvious she was.

“Why are you here anyway.” She said, pouting even more as she stood up, not wanting to stretch her neck just to be able to look at him.

“TADAAAAAA MY PRINCESS YOU LOOK JUST LIKE THESE!”

And before she knew it, she was smashed in the face by a huge bouquet of roses. Sooyoung sneezed, and she smacked the roses away half-heartedly with her hand, groaning, “What is wrong with you!”

Daehyun grinned like the stupid idiot he was for loving her, and he took a deep breath, blurting, “Choi Sooyoung, listen up. I know we have a lot of quarrels and im so sorry and I swear I’ll remember to buy the jumbo meal for you next time instead of the regular one, and im willing to change just for you and I love you so please don’t cry and the roses are to signify how you’re just like roses, forever stunning and beautiful and sweet and smart and beautiful and you get what I mean so just accept it!”

With that, he bowed a 90degree bow, handing out the roses to her with both hands, and it was so ing adorable Sooyoung’s heart almost burst. Quickly, she snapped a picture of it, deciding it’ll be her future wallpaper. With a sincere smile, she accepted the roses and pulled him into a hug, murmuring against his teeshirt, “I see your vocabulary of describing me is really limited there,”

She felt the vibration of his chest as he laughed airily, “You know what I mean so that’s enough though. Now stop crying okay Soo, you know I love you and we love each other so we’ll have a happy ending just like all of the princesses and princes in fairytales.”

She couldn’t help but chuckle as she pulled away slightly from him, eyes shining with happiness and hope, and it took Daehyun’s breath away, “I love you too, and okay, I’ll trust you, and I’ll stop crying,”

“Why are we such ironic people, huh?” Daehyun suddenly whispered, a bashful smile on his face, thinking how childish they must be, how weird and amusing this must be.

“I guess we’re just unique like that,” Sooyoung winked at him teasingly, and Daehyun couldn’t help but pull her in for a tender kiss, putting all his love in that kiss, expressing all his love for her, and Sooyoung did the same. After pulling away from their innocent and loving kiss, Sooyoung’s tummy let out an involuntary growl, and she smiled cheekily, “Buy me a jumbo meal?”

"The irony, really."

Chapter 1: Mmh, the story is alright. It's interesting, honestly, as to how this apparent pairing came up because this is my first time seeing it. It certainly stands out from the usual pairs! I have a few things to say, if you don't mind.

Firstly, you missed out a few punctuation marks at the end of your dialogues. It's a little off that way, ^^; Secondly, you forgot to capitalize the front of some of the words/names such as (daehyun). I understand that it's just a small mistake, okay? c: Thirdly... I sincerely believe that it is (bouquet of flowers) instead of (banquet of flowers)...

I hope that I have not hurt your feelings by accident while speaking of these matters. I only wish for the best for you in your journey of writing. Have a nice day, ^^/
