Just a Dream
Description
"I'm dying." Jiyong looked up at her with a pained expression. Dara backed away until she felt the cold, hard hospital wall against her. She shook her head in denial.
"No. No, you're not. Stop lying!" She clutched her head with both hands and closed her eyes in frustration. Jiyong watched helplessly, bound to the hospital bed with countless wires and tubes.
"I'm sorry, Dara. I didn't want you to find out like this." His heart broke as he saw a tear roll down her cheek.
"No. No. Please...you can't..." She crumpled to the floor, burying her head in her knees. This can't be happening. Tell me this is just a dream.
Foreword
"Ji, do you love me?" she asked as she gently pressed the refreshingly cold towel against his forehead. She saw him weakly lift the corners of his lips up, attempting to smile at her from underneath the oxygen mask.
"Of course," he whispered. "I love you so much, baby girl." Dara smiled, a bittersweet tear taking the place of the one she just wiped away.
"Thank you," she murmured back, her voice cracking. "I love you too. Thank you." He chuckled a little before giving her the slightest of nods. He closed his eyes with heartbreaking acceptance.
"Good-bye," he whispered, impossibly quiet. Dara's hand froze in midair.
"What?! Jiyong, no. NO!" She stood up, frantically reaching for the nurse-call button. Her thumb pressed down on it who knows how many times as tears began pouring out of her eyes. "Jiyong, NO!"
Soon enough, doctors and nurses charged into the room, and strong arms wrapped around Dara's waist. She watched in helplessness as the doctors barked orders to the nurses and people moved around in a flurry of desperation. The last thing she heard was the deafening sound of his heart flat-lining before she was hauled out of the hospital room.
